Leontiev Oleg Yurievich. Portrait

Life, like history, sometimes moves in a spiral. And playing career as a defenderOleg LEONTIEV - confirmation of this. A pupil of the Saratov hockey before each new stage of his sports way invariably returned to his native "Crystal". However, this law is valid for small cycles. The big one is that the ex-player of our national team at the end of his career returned to where he once made a name for himself in big hockey. And now he is again participating in the Belarusian championship.

FROM THE DOSSIER “PB”

Oleg Leontiev. Born on 11/15/70. A pupil of the Saratov hockey. Defender. He played for the Engels "Chemist" (1986-88), Saratov "Crystal" (1989, 1994-95, 1996-97, 2003-04), Minsk "Dynamo" (1989-90), Grodno "Progress" -SHVSM (" Neman”) (1990-94), Minsk “Tivali” (1994), Magnitogorsk “Metallurg” (1995-96, 1997-2001), Novokuznetsk “Metallurg” (2001-02), St. Petersburg SKA (2002-04) , Mogilev "Khimvolokno" (since December 2004). In the championships of Belarus he played 56 matches, scored 25 (8 + 17) points, received 120 penalty minutes. In the Cups of Belarus - 7, 4 (2 + 2), 42. Silver (1993, 1994) and bronze (2005) medalist of the championships of Belarus. Finalist of the Belarus Cup (2005). Champion of Russia (1999, 2001), silver (1998) and bronze (2000) medalist. Winner of the Cup of Russia (1998). Euroleague champion (1999, 2000). In the national team of Belarus he played 20 matches, scored 1 (1 + 0) points, received 20 minutes of penalty.

Return Russian hockey players to Belarus, albeit lit up in youth in our clubs, is a rather rare phenomenon.

When he performed in the Saratov "Crystal", the club had problems with finances. I have a family that needs to be fed. And very opportunely last fall Alexander Sergeevich Volchkov called and invited me to Mogilev. The coach briefly spoke about Khimvolokne, in absentia acquainted with the conditions in the team, the tasks it solves, and the selection of players. The proposal of the Mogilev residents was completely satisfactory, and the negotiations, which were conducted for a month and a half, in November culminated in the signing of a contract with the “lions”.

- You left Belarus in 1994. And what did the level of our championship look like a decade later?

The comparison is not entirely correct. In the early 1990s there were only three professional teams: Dynamo Minsk, which later became Tivali, Neman Grodno and Polymir Novopolotsk, which played in Russian leagues. The national championship was held in a month. Now there are more decent clubs. It is gratifying that the changes affected not only hockey, but also living conditions. With many guys, with whom I again crossed paths in Belarus, I had a chance to play side by side in Russia. Old friends stayed here too. He constantly kept in touch with them, so he was aware of all the changes that took place with you. I confess, I did not expect that everything would be so good. In terms of level, the Belarusian championship is not inferior to the Russian major league, and the leaders could gain a foothold and a higher rank.

Let's go back to your youth. How did the option of moving to Belarus come about?

He started playing hockey in Saratov, where he took his first steps at the adult level. At the age of sixteen he got into the Engels "Chemist", who then played in the second league of the USSR championship. Soon it was time to join the army. I was offered to go to Minsk with Igor Stepanov and Sergei Fedotov, where we could serve and continue to play hockey. It was very important, because I could not imagine life without the game.

- Not afraid to leave home at the age of eighteen and go to the other end of the country?

So I did not move to Minsk alone, in the company of old friends. If we hadn’t gone to Belarus, we would probably have ended up in Tver, which is not much closer to Saratov. But in the end they chose the Minsk option. Bribed that it was the capital of the union republic. Vladimir Vasilievich Krikunov gave a chance to newcomers, but only Seryoga Fedotov, who played in the highest league of the USSR championships, got a foothold in Dynamo. And Igor Stepanov and I were sent to the Grodno “Progress”-SHVSM.

- Why didn't you manage to get into the main part of Dynamo?

Probably, at that time it did not correspond to the level of the major league. Do not look for any undercurrents. They did not feel any discomfort in Minsk, the older partners did not infringe on the young. On the contrary, they helped and taught. The first season he spent in Grodno, only at the finish line he again ended up in the camp of the “blue and white”. Of course, the difference between the first and major leagues is colossal. Before the debut match, I was a little pounding, I was very nervous. However, from the first seconds of being on the site, everything disappeared. The speeds were an order of magnitude higher than in the first league, everything happened much faster. And therefore I was afraid that I would make mistakes, let the team down.

Normally, they didn’t exile them to hard labor. In youth, the main thing is to constantly play. Picked up in Grodno good team, before which the maximum tasks were set. “Progress”-SHVSM was not a whipping boy. In the first year, they got into a transitional tournament for the right to play in the next season in the major leagues. There were chances to be in the elite, but small. It was very hard in the confrontation with the representatives of the “tower”.

- Literally a year later, the USSR ordered to live long. What was it like playing in the new conditions?

We were still lucky, football unity fell apart immediately, but hockey championship continued to operate under the MHL brand. He stayed in Belarus, because Minsk, Kyiv and Riga received places in the new league. It was hard for the young states at first. There are plenty of hockey schools in Russia, but in Belarus, Latvia and Ukraine, everyone started almost from scratch. The level of national championships was simply depressing. However, the years spent in Grodno left only good memories. It's a pity that last season it was not possible to visit Grodno with Khimvolokno. Therefore, I look forward to a new visit to the Neman with great impatience. Haven't been there for a long time. I wonder how much the city has changed in ten years? Talk about the fact that he was transformed almost beyond recognition was very intriguing.

- You can say that Grodno has become a second home. Why, then, in 1994, they left the Neman and returned to Saratov?

The main reason for moving to Kristall is the sports factor. The Saratov club at that time participated in the MHL. Before that, I only brewed in the lower divisions. But the time has come to rise to a qualitatively new level of skill. At the age of 24, I wanted to prove, first of all, to myself that I can successfully play at a decent level. I returned home, I already knew almost all the new partners: I studied with someone at the Youth Sports School and took the first steps in hockey together, I became friends with others, speaking in Belarus. Naturally, in the "Crystal" I faced new requirements, but they did not differ much from those that were presented to me in the "Neman" or "Tivali". The Saratov club at that time was not much stronger than the Belarusian teams. In addition, as part of the Neman, I had a chance to play against my native team in a transitional tournament. By the way, then Grodno won. Signed a contract for three seasons, got an apartment. But in Saratov, and this was not uncommon in the mid-90s, financial problems began. “Crystal” somehow competed with Magnitogorsk “Metallurg”. It can be said that they beat “Magnitogorsk” for “thank you”. And the leadership of Magnitogorsk decided to invite people who were involved in their defeat to the team. The Saratov authorities warned that the refusal was undesirable. That's why I, Sergei Fedotov and Sergei Zhebrovsky went to Metallurg. Finished that season in the new club. The guys stayed for the next one, and I returned to Saratov. However, the situation in his native team only worsened, and a year later he finally moved to Magnitogorsk.

- So was it worth returning to Saratov?

Metallurg offered a good contract. However, I wanted to help “Crystal” adequately perform in the championship. Patriotic feelings surged. However, since then I have learned to treat every club in which I had a chance to play with the same degree of patriotism. For me, they are all family.

- “Crystal” was relegated to a division with a lower rank, and you continued your performance on highest level, regularly replenishing the collection of trophies...

Oh, I can safely call those seasons in Magnitogorsk the best in my career! I think I found not only my team, but also the coach. With Valery Konstantinovich Belousov, a good working relationship developed from the first day. The coach favorably differed from his colleagues in that the wards grasped his game concepts and requirements on the fly, there is some kind of persuasiveness and accessibility in him. We knew who and where should be on the site in a given situation. In "Metallurg" there was no strict division into the first or fourth five. All combinations of hockey players had the same functions. In composition, in terms of the level of performing skills, the quintets were approximately equal.

- What else do you remember about the Magnitogorsk period of your career?

The club allocated apartments to visiting hockey players, which, as a rule, ended up in the same house. So they lived as one big friendly family. Perhaps this helped to feel the partners so well during the matches, united the team even more. Families often went on a joint vacation before the season and at its end. Also close to the city is ski resort Cloudy, where the whole team often went. For me and my children and my wife skiing came to taste. Although the city itself left a negative impression. Two central streets - and that's it. The entertainment infrastructure at that time was in its infancy. From ice palace the Urals and the metallurgical plant are visible. That is, there was always the opportunity to see what I and my family have to breathe. But all this was compensated by good money and, of course, regular victories.

Did you have a desire to leave Magnitogorsk for the sake of the health of your relatives and move to a place with more favorable environmental conditions?

At one time, the Togliatti “Lada” was seriously interested in me. I myself was not averse to changing the club registration. Still, Tolyatti is closer to Saratov. However, in the end, something did not fit together at the level of club leaders.

- And you changed the city, but not the name of the team.

In 2001, I called the agent, introduced him to his requirements and wishes. A week later, he got in touch and said that there is a good option in Novokuznetsk, almost all conditions are met. We consulted with my wife and decided to move to another Metallurg, where I met my old friend Andrei Mikhailovich Sidorenko. Before that, I had a chance to work with him in the national team of Belarus. I think the season in Novokuznetsk went well. Although there were some friction with the head coach. Andrei Mikhailovich approached the matches very emotionally and was very upset by failures. He could not, like Belousov, calmly explain to each player his mistakes.

- For this reason, stayed in Novokuznetsk for only one season?

Not only. The management offered to extend the contract, but the environment in Novokuznetsk, as it turned out, is even worse than in Magnitogorsk. And when the option arose with Petersburg SKA, moved to the banks of the Neva, without hesitation. What I don't regret now. Saint Petersburg is a wonderful city. During the first month of my stay there, I twice went to Peterhof with my family. My family was fine with everything. But age was already making itself felt, so in the summer of 2004 I decided to return to Saratov. I understood: it is necessary to determine the future. Or continue to perform, or look for yourself in a new craft. It turned out that there was a chance to extend his career.

- Many Belarusian fans remember you as a national team player.

That period is remembered with special warmth. I am now ready to try on the form national team. The main thing is to be invited. I will always be happy to help. Believe me, these are not beautiful words, it is an honor to play for the national team. Back in 1994, everything was for the first time, unusual. We were very worried going out on the ice. The next time he was in the main squad of the country five years later, in 1999. Then the leaders Russian hockey put an end to my desire to continue playing for the Belarusian team. For the sake of good club contracts, in order not to be considered a legionnaire, I had to give up the opportunity to regularly participate in major international tournaments.

- How did the family feel about the relocation of her husband and father?

This is our sporting lot. Alas, hockey players often have to be away from their wives and children. But I constantly tried to transport my family to those cities where I had a chance to play. The eldest son is distinguished by super-communicative skills. Therefore, when he went to school, everyone was amazed at how quickly he finds a common language with unfamiliar people. Now, speaking in Mogilev, I mostly live alone. My wife, son and daughter sometimes come to visit. However, having studied the championship calendar, I came to the conclusion that there will be no time to be bored: the interval between games is one or two days.

- With the departure of Galchenyuk, the partners elected you as captain. Additional weight does not press?

- Then a question as to the captain. Is Khimvolokno justifiably ranked among the favorites of the championship this year?

I will answer standardly - the season will show. Although I think that we are not in vain considered as candidates for medals. Not just because we reached the final of the Cup of Belarus, although other teams treated this tournament formally. And the circle of applicants will remain the same: Minsk "Youth", "Dinamo" and "Keramin", "Gomel".

- In November, you will turn 35. Have you ever thought about what you will do after hanging up your skates?

I think a person should play as long as he is in demand, as long as he has the strength and desire. With the latter, everything is fine with me, because I feel that I can still perform and be useful. Although I have been thinking about the question of what will happen on the other side of hockey for more than a year. Preliminary outlines are available, but I am not going to disclose them. Suddenly it doesn't work. Hockey players are superstitious.

Compared with previous season, the next championship was held in a different format. The number of participants in the 2000/01 championship was reduced to 18 clubs, which held a three-stage tournament. At the first stage, the teams played in two rounds. According to its results, three sixes were formed, in each of which they played two more rounds, however, already without taking into account the points scored earlier.

The first six, which included teams that took from first to sixth places in the first stage, in fact, did not need anything - they had already booked their places in the playoffs. The second six, which included teams that took places from seventh to 12th at the first stage, fought for two places in the playoffs. The six outsiders of the first stage - places from 13th to 18th - were supposed to identify the losers who were to leave the Super League. Based on the results of the games of the second stage, a playoff draw grid was formed for eight teams. The winner of that championship was Metallurg Magnitogorsk, led by Valery Belousov. The Urals turned out to be stronger than the Omsk Avangard.

Avtomobilist head coach assistant Oleg Leontiev is ready to talk after any matches. Having received a decent slap in the face from the hosts in Magnitogorsk with a score of 0:6, Oleg Yuryevich did not postpone the conversation for later, but talked with your correspondent. It is a pity that there was very little time for a dense conversation.

- Oleg Yuryevich, over the past season with a ponytail, Avtomobilist won Metallurg five times, excluding matches at the Romazan memorial. CSKA and he won against Magnitogorsk only four times. Why has your team been beating Magnitogorsk so often lately?

- There is a special mood for Magnitogorsk, we always go out in a fighting, charged mood. Once again, the guys do not need to be additionally motivated, everyone wants to prove themselves in the game with the leader. Check what you're worth. There is no explanation why we often beat. There is only one explanation: the players come out from the first minutes and fight with full dedication.

– Your team is not the best best time now: seven defeats in eight matches. Once the capital's Dynamo lost 11 matches in a row, but after some time became the champion, won the Gagarin Cup. And sometimes in this unsuccessful protracted series, it came to tears with laughter. Your team scored two goals for themselves today, or could have three, but the second period ended on time for you. Was there a certain comedy of the situation in all these defeats?

- Well, yes. In all matches, we showed combat, great game. But, indeed, either the guys didn’t score into an empty net, or they didn’t succeed on the rebound. There was a mood and desire, but the puck did not go, although crack. We can't do anything about it. Our team came out to play with desire, with heart. What to do next? In this situation, you just need to grit your teeth and plow. Keep moving forward. No other is given. Help your goalkeeper more, climb on other people's gates more often, throw more, close someone else's goalkeeper.

Today such major defeat might not be if...

- We know that Metallurg plays great on the powerplay. Naturally, they paid attention to discipline. They warned that there should be as few deletions as possible. We didn't succeed. Our first removal was a goal from a rebound. Probably, one can complain about this ill-fated rebound ... After all, the first ten minutes we played approximately on an equal footing.

- We have already noted that Avtomobilist often plays with Magnitka in the last season with a small one. Does Metallurg's game change during this time, or is everything the same on the ice?

- We have studied the opponent very well. There are small nuances with a standard face-off. We saw this, showed what the guys need to do in this situation. But these are such minor nuances that the fans for the most part may not have noticed it. So what has changed here? We know how Metallurg plays the majority. If there are changes, we know about it, as we analyze all the last matches with Magnitka.

- Metallurg is the current champion, winner of the Gagarin Cup. What is the success of the Magnitogorsk defense in your opinion as a defender with vast experience of playing on the All-Russian and international club arenas?

- This, of course, is a combination of the skills of the best forwards plus a good defense led by Vasily Koshechkin. Plus the very organization of the club infrastructure. I know firsthand what is being done in Magnitogorsk for the team. In the end, all this gives the result. I also know the work of Gennady Velichkin, his attitude towards the team. Successfully formed a fusion of youth and experience.

- Is it possible to adopt something from Metallurg's game and transfer it to Avtomobilist's game? Or is it basically impossible because of a different philosophy of your team's game?

- We have a slightly different tactics, due to the energy-consuming game. Thus, we want to ensure that pressure on the opponent comes from the opponent's zone. Few people play like that, of course, but we try to preach aggressive, active hockey. And what can we learn from Magnitka? All the best we'll see. Let's look at some schemes, combinations. And not only in Magnitogorsk, but also in the NHL teams, and in our League, what we see, and we can, of course, adopt at our own expense.

How does defender Nikolai Timashov, a pupil of Magnitogorsk hockey, show himself in Avtomobilist?

- We know Nikolai from his performance in the VHL. He was recognized there. the best newcomer. He played well the season that year, there were, of course, mistakes, failures, but they were satisfied with his actions. This year he has gotten even better. Angry, as they say. Looking forward to more from him the best game. I wish him to grow into a great master who will help our team as well.

- You and Andrei Razin are maximalists as players. We achieved great success while playing for Metallurg. When you performed in Magnitogorsk, there was a whole scattering of stars, and there are almost none in Avtomobilist. How to make maximalist players out of the current Avtomobilist players?

- At this stage, Andrei Vladimirovich and I have such a task. To extract from people all their resources, all their possibilities. So that they give themselves, fight for the team in which they are. Do not feel sorry for yourself, then surely something will work out. What we did in Magnitogorsk when we played here with Andrey.

The interview was conducted by Artur IVANNIKOV.

General Director of HC "Admiral" Sergei Soshnikov commented on the departure of Andrei Razin from the post of head coach of the club. Soshnikov admitted that the parties failed to agree, and, in addition, Razin had a jet lag in Vladivostok. Acting as head coach silver medalist Major Hockey League 2016 Oleg Leontiev, according to IA PrimaMedia.

It was reported that the contract with the 44-year-old specialist was signed for two and a half years, until the end of the 2019/2020 season. On December 28, he was introduced to the team. At the same time, commenting on his appointment, Andrey Razin noted that the conditions and status offered for work suit him.

The situation was commented by the general director of HC "Admiral" Sergey Soshnikov. His version is different.

“We didn’t agree with Razin. Negotiations went on for a long time. Not even negotiations, but he felt uncomfortable due to the change in the time zone, as far as I understood. Soshnikov "Championship".

Today, January 14, after a morning workout, the Admiral hockey players went on the final western trip of this season, during which they will play with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (January 16), Gagarin Cup winner SKA (January 18), Dynamo Moscow (20 January) and Dynamo Minsk (January 22).
