Who will join the torpedo hockey club. Torpedo hockey club Nizhny Novgorod

HC "Torpedo"- ice hockey team from Nizhny Novgorod. The hockey club was founded in 1946. She was in the league of the strongest participants in the National Championship in 1952-1953, 1954-1998, 1999-2002, 2003-2004, from 2007 to the present.

Team History

Hockey club "Torpedo" was founded in 1946. V.S. Konovalenko (4300 seats). Since the 2007-2008 season. the team performs at the renovated arena of the Sports Palace of Trade Unions, which, after reconstruction, can accommodate 5,500 spectators as required by the regulations.

Palace of Sports of Trade Unions

The first performance of the Gorky team at the allied level refers to the 1947/48 season. "Torpedo" (Gorky) then took part in the first championship of the USSR among the teams of the second group (an analogue of the current Major League). The Gorky team took fourth place in their debut season, letting Dynamo (Sverdlovsk), Dzerzhinets (Chelyabinsk) and Dynamo (Moscow Region) teams forward, but bypassed Dynamo Kuibyshev, Lokomotiv from Vologda and their Arkhangelsk teammates. The following season, the Torpedo team took the last, fifth place in their zone.

The first serious success for car manufacturers came in the spring of 1954, when Torpedo finished second in the second-tier championship after Dynamo Novosibirsk and got the right to play in the first group (an analogue of the current Superleague). The debut was not successful. Seven points and last, 10th place. But the team remained in the first group thanks to the expansion of class A to 15 teams, which included Khimik (Voskresensk) and Spartak Moscow.

By the end of the fifties, the team gradually began to become a serious rival not only for the middle peasants and outsiders, but also for the leaders of our hockey. In the spring of 1960, the competition was held according to the playoff system. At the beginning of spring, the quarter-final matches took place. CSKA came to Gorky. Frankly speaking, the owners of the ice had practically no chance of winning. The players of CSKA also felt it, having decided to easily beat the Gorky team.

The great CSKA player Nikolai Sologubov said in a private conversation with journalist Vladimir Dvortsov: "Torpedo" against CSKA is the same as with a knife on a steam locomotive. "But the venerable hockey player did not calculate the strength of the young team - Gorky won 6:5, and during the game the hosts led with an indecent score for CSKA - 6: 3. The next day, the teams had to play the second match of the series, which was played up to two victories. A sensation was brewing. But then bad weather intervened. The ice became completely unsuitable for play due to the positive temperature. The match at first it was postponed twice, and canceled altogether at 8 pm CSKA immediately left the stadium, and only then was it announced to the overcrowded stands that the game was being postponed to Sokolniki. all the tickets left. Riots began, the CSKA locker room was looted, where part of the army left their things. And then a fire broke out at the stadium.

The team of the automobile plant clearly demonstrated its real strength already in the fall of 1960, when Torpedo won a rather prestigious tournament for the prize of the Soviet Sport newspaper at that time, defeating Spartak Moscow in the decisive match, which defeated CSKA in the semifinals. And in March 1961 the first came (and this moment last) a major success - "Torpedo" won the silver of the USSR championship.

Then for the first time one of the sets of medals went to a non-Moscow club. The names of the winners of that tournament are still remembered by all Nizhny Novgorod fans. , Igor Shichkov, Valery Kormakov, Vyacheslav Zhidkov, Boris Nemchinov, Igor Chistovsky, Lev Khalaichev, Robert Sakharovsky. The team was then coached by Dmitry Boginov.

Viktor Konovalenko

The famous goalkeeper of the USSR national team and the Gorky "Torpedo", nicknamed "Russian Bear". Two-time Olympic champion, eight-time champion world and two-time European champion. At the end of his career in the national team, he handed over his jersey with number 20 to the then young goalkeeper Vladislav Tretiak. In 1970 he was recognized as the best hockey player in the world and the best hockey player in the USSR.

Viktor Konovalenko was the only coach, and before that - a player in the composition of HC "Torpedo", who was allowed to smoke openly. For a long time I played without a mask, I put it on only after the introduction of new rules, when it became impossible to play without a mask. One of Konovalenko's goalkeeper masks resembled a bear's head. The hockey player said that she was a gift from his idol, Canadian goalkeeper Seth Martin.

After 1961, the torpedoes never managed to be on the podium. In 1982 and 1985, the team was able to take fourth place in the USSR championship. In the 80s, the leaders of Soviet hockey also had to reckon with Torpedo. It is worth noting that in 1983 and 1985 the Gorky team won the "Thunderstorm of Authorities" prize, which was awarded to the team, which took all the most points from the championship winners. Hockey players playing for Torpedo have repeatedly been involved in playing for various national teams. Sometimes, in one season, about ten Torpedo players were involved in the national team, who defended the honor of the country in youth and adult championships. And despite the fact that the players of the Moscow teams were mainly invited to the first teams, there was always one or two places in the squad for the players of the Gorky club. Called regularly to national team countries Alexander Skvortsov, Vladimir Kovin, and a little earlier, Yuri Fedorov. A great contribution to the torpedo successes of those years was made by Moscow coaches - Nikolai Karpov and Yuri Morozov.

In the nineties, the team did not have serious success. highest achievement was an exit to the 1/4 playoffs in the 1995 JHL championship. It is worth noting that on November 19, 1990, Torpedo moved to the new Sports Palace named after. V. S. Konovalenko, in which the team performed for 17 years (until returning to the Palace of Sports of Trade Unions in 2007).

In the 1997/1998 season, the team left the strongest league for the first time in more than 40 years, flying into the Premier League, but after a season the club returned to the Super League. In the 1999/2000 season of the Super League, the car factories reached the 1/8 finals. Then in 2002 the team again left the top division, and the 2002/2003 season played in the Premier League. However, Nizhny Novgorod managed to take first place in the first and second stages of the season, which allowed them to return to the Super League, but again not for long. The next season turned out to be a failure for the Torpedo team, and having taken the last 16th place, the club returned back to the Premier League, where it remained from 2004 to 2007.

Season 2007-2008

In 2007, having taken the first place in the Major League and having won the main trophy for the second time, the car manufacturers returned to the Super League. In the last season of the Super League 2007-2008, the team performed unsuccessfully, finishing in the last 20th place. But since 2008, a decision was made to create the Kontinental Hockey League. Since then, the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo has been part of the KHL.

Season 2008-2009

In the 2008/2009 season, the team took 12th place, reaching the 1/8 finals, in which they lost to Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Czech striker Pavel Brendl was recognized as one of the best snipers in the championship, having scored 35 goals against the opponent.

Season 2009-2010

In the second season of the KHL 2009/2010, the team made a powerful selection. Foreign players such as Jaroslav Bednarzh, Joachim Linstrem, Bernd Brückler, Angel Krstev were invited to the HC "Torpedo". However, despite a successful off-season and winning the Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor's Cup, Torpedo failed to qualify for the Playoffs, finishing 9th in the conference and 17th in the overall standings.

For the second year in a row, Pavel Brendle turned out to be the best sniper in Torpedo.

Season 2010-2011

By the third season, there was a complete reorganization of the team; Main coach E. N. Popikhin, his place was taken by V. V. Golubovich. Leaving only the main backbone, the team was recruited again. The ranks of newcomers were joined by Canadian players Danny Gru, Charles Lingle, Matt Ellison, American Ryan Weske. The experienced Dynamo Moscow player Sergey Vyshedkevich became the captain of the team. In 2011, as part of the youth team of Russia, the striker of the Nizhny Novgorod "Torpedo" Semyon Valuysky became the world champion.

But despite all the efforts, the torpedo team lacked only one point to get into the coveted eight. For the second year in a row, Torpedo did not reach the playoffs. After the end of the season, the team's head coach Vladimir Golubovich resigned.

Season 2011-2012

In the fourth season of the KHL, the head coach changed in the team. A Finnish specialist was invited to this post. Under his leadership, the club held the regular season very confidently and smoothly and, despite numerous injuries to the base players - Ryan Veske, Vitaliy Koval, Matt Ellison and Dmitry Makarov dropped out of the team for several months, "Torpedo" for 9 matches before the end of the regular season provided place in the playoffs.

Moreover, already a round before the end of the championship, the Nizhny Novgorod team secured the first place in the Tarasov division. In the overall ranking of the KHL teams, they took 7th place, gaining a total of 91 points. Torpedo scored one of the most reliable defenses in the league (fifth overall in goals conceded), which was explained both by the skillful organization of the game by Kari Jalonen and the outstanding performance of the team's goalkeeper Vitaliy Koval, who became the league's best in terms of reliability coefficient (1.75 in 30 matches played). In the first round, Torpedo managed to break the resistance of Dynamo Riga in a series of 7 games, but in the second round they lost in 6 games to Dynamo Moscow.

All Nizhny Novgorod people know hockey club"Torpedo", namely: the schedule of matches, the names of the players, the number of goals scored in the season at the moment, etc. There are no problems with this. But few people delve into history and the first time will answer you the question: "Can you name a few names of the players who adequately defended the honor of the Torpedo team, starting in 1946?" Here comes the snag.

Someone may say, “why is this necessary, who is interested in this,” or even look sideways in your direction and brush it off. To prevent this from happening, we have compiled a list of "Top 9 Torpedo players" that every devoted Nizhny Novgorod fan should know. Let's get started.

Viktor Sergeevich Konovalenko

Viktor Konovalenko is a real legend of Nizhny Novgorod hockey. From 1956-1972 he was a player in HC Torpedo, in the last years of his life he was a coach. He moved at lightning speed in the net, caught a huge number of pucks - all this served as the achievement of such a huge success.

Imagine, a multiple world and European champion, the owner of many state awards: Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Order of the Badge of Honor, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, not to list all; about 20 medals international level, of which 17 are gold.

In honor of this talented hockey player in the Avtozavodsky district, a boulevard was named, the sports palace in Nizhny Novgorod, where his bust is also installed and his game sweater with the 20th number is immortalized.

Also, a banner of honor with the initials of Konovalenko hangs under the arches of the Nagorny cultural and entertainment complex.

An interesting fact: After the transfer of Mikhail Pavlovich to the Torpedo team, he joined the new trio: Skvortsov - Kovin - Varnakov. Their link became one of the strongest in Soviet hockey in the late 70s - early 80s. In 1979, their trio, as part of the Wings of the Soviets hockey club, went to a tournament in Canada. Of the 21 goals scored in matches with the Canadians, 13 were on account of Skvortsov - Kovin - Varnakov.

Vladimir Alexandrovich Kovin

Vladimir Kovin is a Soviet hockey player, former striker of HC Torpedo. He is an Honored Master of Sports of the USSR and a player awarded five medals (first and third places). As mentioned above, he was part of the legendary trio.

In one of his interviews, Kovin spoke about his goal to get to Olympic Games, soon he did it: “ Just like in Sarajevo, I didn’t get nervous in my life, I didn’t worry.”(The 1984 Winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia).

An interesting fact: according to Vladimir Alexandrovich, before joining the Nizhny Novgorod hockey club, he did not have any special advantages, and ice skating was “limping”.

Yuri Ivanovich Fedorov

Yuri Ivanovich Fedorov is the “golden” hockey player of his generation. For 14 years, the defender adequately played for the Torpedo team (he scored 102 goals).

In the Nizhny Novgorod club he played under the number "4", name sweater with this number posted under the arches of the Palace of Sports in the capital of the Volga region.

In 1972 he became the champion of the Universiade, in 1975 - the world champion, in 1978 - the European champion, in 1979 - the owner of the Challenge Cup. Such career success helped Yuri Fedorov to pass for a talented and strong hockey player.

An interesting fact: he is a member of the Nikolai Sologubov Club (it includes defenders who scored more than 100 goals in the USSR championships).

Alexander Nikolaevich Fedotov

Alexander Fedotov was not going to become a hockey player, he had great success in football. He played for the reserve team of the Gorky Rocket, the future striker had the opportunity to go to the finals of the country's youth championship as a football player of the RSFSR national team.

But Alexander was "intercepted" by the coach of the Nizhny Novgorod "Torpedo" Dmitry Boginov. In winter, Fedotov successfully coped with the puck. He adequately defended the colors of the team for 500 games, scoring 214 goals.

An interesting fact: In the 1968-1969 season, he set a club record: he scored 65 goals and hit the opponent's goal 7 times in one match (Torpedo - Dieselist - 17:3). It was a crushing victory.

Robert Serafimovich Sakharovsky

An interesting fact: he had leadership qualities, so he was often chosen as the captain of many hockey teams.

Lev Feoktistovich Khalaichev

Lev Khalaichev is a legend Soviet sports. In 210 games, Torpedo scored 108 goals. The striker grew up as a very hardened child and looked beyond his years as an adult.

The Nizhny Novgorod player Khalaichev became a co-author of a huge achievement for the team (2nd place in the USSR Championship in 1961, participation in the final of the USSR Cup in the same year). Owner sports title"Master of Sports of the USSR". In "Torpedo" he played under the number "7", a nominal sweater with this number is posted under the arches of the Sports Palace in Nizhny Novgorod.

An interesting fact: Lev Khalaichev, together with Robert Sakharovsky, worked in production, for this “spectacle” people stood in huge queues, so much so that the Torpedo hockey players were prevented from working.

History is a science that can affect every person, regardless of his origin, upbringing and social circle. Yes, you know the position of the hockey club today, but what's the use of it when people don't even understand how hard Torpedo achieved such results, what personalities contributed to this.
