Who has had this kind of volunteer travel experience? maybe there are daredevils who want to combine business with pleasure and see the country from the inside without imposed template excursions and the usual all-inclusive?)

dreaming about summer, but for now 50 shades of gray Peter...

Your right to participate in this Olympiad Russian athletes I have to literally pull it out - not just at competitions and in training halls, but in the courts. In such a nervous atmosphere, our athletes need support more than ever. And next to them in South Korea will be not only our fans, but also Russian volunteers.

They will have to accompany athletes at competitions, help delegations, and work with spectators. The guys independently applied for participation in the Olympics as volunteers - and now their presence in Pyeongchang has acquired additional significance.

Despite the difficult situation that has developed around Olympic Games, Russian volunteers who independently submitted applications and will go to the Republic of Korea have a strong life position. They will gladly represent our country, support Russian athletes and also demonstrate high level training of Russian volunteers. Volunteering, like sports, is out of politics, and it is through communication, joint creative activity that we can build relations between our countries at the level of people, form friendship, an atmosphere of common affairs and positive, learn to trust each other, - says the chairman of the Council of the Volunteer Association centers Artem Metelev.

By the way, among the Russian volunteers who go to South Korea, many helped create a holiday in Sochi in 2014.

I am no longer 16 years old to work for free, but volunteering for such a major event gives me an invaluable experience, and the atmosphere reigning around is remembered for a lifetime. In Sochi, I ended up not quite in the standard position. We, as part of three people, accompanied the sports production group. After the Olympics, I left a lot of unexpected and interesting friends and acquaintances, with many of whom I still have not lost contact, - says the future Olympic 2018 volunteer Valeria Yanina. In Korea, she will be an assistant to one of the groups of the International Olympic Committee: to communicate with medical personnel, athletes.

What makes young and adult people go to the ends of the world, work completely free of charge for two weeks, without rest, give their all? The motives are very different.

So, Anastasia Potapova, a translator from Petrozavodsk, says that she became a volunteer because of her son.

My passion began with the fact that I was a volunteer at the International Children's Games, where he participated in biathlon competitions, - she says. - Now he is 14 years old, and he is very proud of my role in such an important international event as the Olympics. And let me be responsible for the distribution of spectators in places during the competition in figure skating, he understands that the time spent there will give unforgettable emotions, impressions, allow you to see the country and find many friends.

MEANWHILE

Vladimir Putin to a KP correspondent: The CAS decision confirms our position - the majority of Russian athletes are absolutely clean

The President commented on the rehabilitation of our athletes in the Sports Arbitration

28 Russian Olympians have been rehabilitated. What's next?

Russia won the Sochi Olympics for the second time. Now in the courtrooms. Sports arbitration court declared illegal the decision of the International Olympic Committee to take away medals from Russian athletes and impose a life ban on them for alleged doping violations. So Russia regained its first place in the overall standings of the 2014 Olympic Games

I can't believe that two years have passed since the Sochi Olympics...

Remember, we were rooting for and dreamed of going to volunteer in South Korea for the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018?

Have your dreams changed since then? Ready to volunteer for the Olympics?

Winter Olympic Games 2018

Let me remind you that the XXIII Winter Olympic Games will be held in Korean Pyeongchang from February 9 to 25, 2018, and the XII Paralympic Games from March 9 to 18, 2018. Games will be held on 13 sports facilities, some of which are located in the mountains in the territory sports complex Alpensia, and part in the coastal cluster of the city of Gangneung. Do you remember the emblem of the games and its meaning? Here you can refresh your memories. The motto was two English words Passion. Connected (Passion. Connected). It somehow subtly reminds me of the Sochi mottos, but that's just me ... I'm not hinting at anything.

In total, the organizers plan to attract 22,400 people, both Koreans and foreigners. 16,000 will work at the Olympics and the remaining 6,400 will help at the Paralympics. Volunteers will work at sports facilities, in the Olympic and media villages, participate in the opening and closing ceremonies of the games, meet and see off participants and guests.

Basic requirements for volunteer candidates

age. At the time of opening the games, you must be 18 years old, if it is simpler, then your date of birth must be earlier than February 9, 2000.

time. You must have three weeks free at the Olympics and/or 2 weeks at the Paralympics.

Then the organizers, however, specify that they will give preference to those who can participate in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and also have experience volunteering at international cultural and sports events, in various international volunteer organizations and projects. It also goes without saying that you must own foreign languages (to a sufficient extent for communication). I don’t want to mislead, but I saw somewhere in the bowels of the site that they need Korean without fail. Again, some positions require confirmation of your qualifications.

Stages of selection of volunteers in Pyeongchang 2018

Registration of candidates will continue until September 30, 2016. Within a few months they will select volunteers - up to February 2017.

From March 2017 to February 2018, volunteers will be trained:

- basic training: which will talk about the structure of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and give general information on the Olympic movement (this is for 12 hours)

– volunteer leadership training: developing qualities that are important for teamwork, they will teach how to extinguish conflict situations, establish communication and what to do in certain situations

– on-site trainings separately for the volunteers of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, so that the participants settle down on the ground, know the sports facilities and navigate the terrain.

February - March 2018:

- Distribution in places according to the talents and preferences of volunteers.

– participation in the Olympics (3 weeks) and Paralympics (2 weeks) + preparation.

March 2018: Volunteer honors, awards and confirmations.

At the time of work at the Olympics and Paralympics, they promise to dress, feed and put them to sleep. However, the issue of meals on weekends (5 working days / 2 days off) is still being discussed. But where can't ramen save us?

In general, if you are on fire with enthusiasm, then you are here by the link. Get ready to fill out a 6-page application and provide a decent photo! There are also funny questions about your uniform size (it seems that until October you can make changes to your profile, so there is time to lose weight) and do you have a place to live in Pyeongchang :)

When planning a trip to Korea, we expected to spend in this, no doubt interesting country as much time as possible. Fortunately, the Koreans, unlike their closest neighbors, the Japanese, are supportive of the Russians and allow them to stay for two months without the need for a visa. And that suited us perfectly. What did not suit us was the general high cost, and especially housing prices. Here Korea stands on a par with countries such as Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. I suspect that for a comfortable stay we would have to double the budget, or even more, or eat only rice. The solution was quite simple: volunteering.

Of course, we did not plan to do exclusively useful things and divided the days of just traveling and the days that we were going to spend helping farmers grow organic vegetables, approximately equally. Why did we choose farming? Everything is very simple. In our days, when volunteering is on the stream and often costs a lot of money, we wanted to choose not only the maximum a budget option, but also to immerse yourself in the lives of ordinary people without hellish labor costs. And that option was WWOOF.

This organization, which has representation in almost every country in the world, gives people the opportunity to try their hand at working on farms, in return for receiving food and shelter. Woofing is quite powerfully distributed, but in Russia it is little known and unpopular. A couple of articles on this topic on the Internet - that's the whole information base. These articles are accompanied by as few as they are bewildered comments: what for in general to work for free, and even abroad? Especially since there is couchsurfing? And in general, you need to raise your own virgin lands, and not work for the benefit of the bourgeoisie.

We just had a need to work, especially since, unlike hired labor, volunteering, especially in such a new area for us, promised new sensations and impressions. Therefore, without thinking twice, we paid 50,000 won per nose (about $45). For this money, access to the database of farms throughout Korea is provided throughout the year. That is, wufing can be practiced for a whole year. But volunteers need to independently negotiate with the farmers about the stay using e-mail or a form on the site. After reviewing all the options, we sent a motivation letter to those farms that we especially liked. A week later, everything was already planned: a week there, a week there - a total of four farms in different places, including one on Jeju Island. For almost four weeks we were going to "woof" and four - to rest. And now, the moment has come.

After spending a week in Seoul, we boarded a bus and went to the town of Taesomyeon. Half an hour before arrival, they called the farmer and warned him of our arrival. Then, after sitting in vain at the station for forty minutes, they called again. It seems that the first time the farmer did not understand anything due to the language barrier, but the second time the call worked: fifteen minutes later a cheerful Korean named "one song" came to pick us up (I came up with this phrase to remember the name Wang Son).

I'll tell you about what happened next in my next post.

Artem Metelev: “Volunteering, like sports, is out of politics”

From February 9 to February 25, 2018, the city of Pyeongchang (Republic of Korea) will host the XXIII Winter Olympic Games. Volunteers, including those from Russia, will accompany the athletes, help the delegations and create a festive atmosphere.

“I studied in St. Petersburg, now I live and work in Ufa. Despite the fact that by the nature of my work I have nothing to do with sports, I really look forward to this biggest event in my life and the lives of other people, because these are emotions that nothing can replace,” says future Olympic 2018 volunteer Valeria Yanina.

According to her, the Olympic Games, which took place in 2014 in the city of Sochi, left an indescribable feeling for the girl.

“I am no longer 16 years old to work for free, but volunteering for such a major event gives me an invaluable experience, and the atmosphere reigning around is remembered for a lifetime. In Sochi, I ended up not quite in the standard position. We, as a group of three, accompanied the sports production group. After the Olympics, I left a lot of unexpected and interesting friends and acquaintances, with many of whom I still have not lost touch, ”added Valeria Yanina.

Valeria is going to the upcoming Olympic Games as an assistant to one of the groups of the International Olympic Committee. The girl will have to communicate with medical personnel, athletes. The main thing that she is waiting for herself is the strongest emotional shake-up, the complete exit from the comfort zone, because this is the only way to feel the full intensity of emotions.

Anastasia Potapova, a translator from Petrozavodsk, is convinced that her participation in the Olympic Games in the Republic of Korea is important not only and not so much for herself, but for her son.

“My passion began with the fact that I was a volunteer at the International Children's Games, where he participated in biathlon competitions. Now he is 14 years old, and he is very proud of my role in such an important international event as the Olympics. And let me be responsible for the distribution of spectators in places during figure skating competitions, he understands that the time spent there will give unforgettable emotions, impressions, allow you to see the country and find many friends, ”said Anastasia Potapova.

According to Anastasia, event volunteering is a powerful motivation for sports.

Artem Metelev, a member of the RF Public Chamber, Chairman of the Council of the Association of Volunteer Centers, in turn, expressed his conviction that Russian volunteers will not only cope with their duties with high quality, but will also provide significant support to our athletes with their presence in the Republic of Korea.

“Despite the difficult situation that has developed around the Olympic Games, Russian volunteers who independently submitted applications and go to the Republic of Korea have a strong position in life. They will gladly represent our country, support Russian athletes, and demonstrate the high level of training of Russian volunteers. Volunteering, like sports, is out of politics, and it is through communication, joint creative activity that we can build relations between our countries at the level of people, form friendship, an atmosphere of common affairs and positive, learn to trust each other,” Artem Metelev is convinced.
