    The eighth generation Volkswagen Golf is presented on October 24, 2019 at the Wolfsburg Motor Show - the place of invention.     It is this machine that takes a serious step towards digital technologies and the electric future, the prospects of which have been constantly argued. Now it is useless to argue, since one of the most popular cars goes in this direction.

    Cars equipped with electric motors have always tried to stand out in appearance. Here the manufacturer went for the same more expensive, while not the fact that it was successful. A lot of controversy was caused by LED head optics, in the top equipped with iQ-Light matrix headlights with 22 LEDs. Its thin shape with convex shapes at the bottom looks cold.

    The bumper of the new Golf 2019-2020 looks interesting, especially its lower black wide part with three horizontal lines. The edges of the top two are painted in body color.     Yes, it will be difficult to get used to, because the usual mechanical buttons remained only on the 3-spoke steering wheel, which is correct - do not turn on something by accident. And of course the mechanical alarm. Everything else, even the headlights are touch sensitive.

    The main change in the cabin is focused on the dash panel, which is in itself a stylish shape. There are two displays here: a 10.25-inch instrument panel display and a central multimedia. The size of the second in the base (Discover Media) is 8.25 inches, optionally the Discover Pro is set 2 inches wider.


    The images of the dashboard screen of the eighth Volkswagen Golf are customizable, you can display them in different styles of simulating analog sensors, or you can transfer the navigation map. Optional projection. Everything is configured through the second screen, including the climate control installed in the base (optionally 3-zone). The decision to abandon the usual buttons and move the climate to the screen is risky, let's see how convenient it will be, because before the car was a triumph of ergonomics.     iQ.Drive is a system of the future autopilot, consisting of many sensors:

    • lane control;
    • blind spot analysis;
    • control of road signs and other sensors.

    The car itself drives along the lanes, analyzes the situation through Car2X, but forbids taking your hands off the steering wheel for more than 15 seconds.

    A lot of electricity - characteristics

    Naturally, the manufacturer has not completely switched to electricity, while it is only a hybrid. Electricity is the Volkswagen ID series. The base is equipped with simple TSI motors E211 Evo:

    • liter version with a version of 90 or 110 horsepower;
    • 1.5-liter unit, 130 or 150 horsepower.

    It is optionally equipped with eTSI mild hybrid technology with a 48-volt starter-alternator to help start the engine and start. This provided a 10% reduction in fuel consumption in the WLTP cycle, and in theory will add reliability to the motor.


    The list of diesel engines of the new Volkswagen Golf 2019-2020 consists of a 2-liter version with a capacity of 115 or 150 horsepower. The full plug-in hybrid gets a 13kWh battery and an electric motor. The main engine of the hybrid versions is a 1.4-liter TSI, which produces 204 in the regular version. horsepower, and the GTE model will receive 245 horses.

    Sales of the car will begin at the end of 2019. Base price is expected to start from 22,000 euros (1.5 million rubles). The name of the configurations will change, and the equipment for such a price tag is surprising:

The front bumper indicates a sporty style. Two central air intakes and fog lights on the sides. In profile, the design is calm and harmonious. At the rear, there is a roof spoiler, beautifully patterned two-piece taillights, a bulging rear bumper and a bottom guard where the exhaust pipes are located. Despite its compactness, the car has the following dimensions: length - 4255 mm, width - 1799 mm, height - 1452 mm, wheelbase - 2637 mm. The long wheelbase in this case helps to more comfortably pass the unevenness of the road surface and makes the car more stable.

    The interior of the Volkswagen Golf 7 is strict and beautiful in its own way. The use of decorative black matt or gray inserts emphasize various interior details. The steering wheel is as comfortable as possible and partly sporty, truncated from below. It has a tri-spoke structure, functional control buttons are located on the side lobes. The dashboard includes two wells with instruments and a color screen on-board computer. The center console includes a large touchscreen infotainment system. It allows you to connect third-party devices to use the functionality available to them. It is also able to control various functions and equipment of the car. It includes: air conditioning, climate control, start-stop system, active power steering, on-board computer, cruise control, tire pressure sensor, cigarette lighter and ashtray, steering wheel height and reach adjustment. Interior: combined interior, sports seats, leather steering wheel and gearshift lever, multifunction steering wheel, heated front seats, front power windows, front center armrest, third rear headrest. Overview: xenon / bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, automatic leveling and headlight washer, electric and heated mirrors, electric heated windshield washer nozzles. Exterior: 16-inch alloy wheels.
