In the 2017 season, Formula 1 came to Malaysia in the 19th and last time V recent history. The organizers did not renew the contract, citing the government's refusal to finance, and compared to the night race in neighboring Singapore, the stage in Sepang looked much less impressive.

The traditional factors of the Malaysian weekend - heat, humidity and unpredictable weather - have affected this time as well. The rain watered the track on Friday, preventing the first training session, he was on the morning of the race, but an hour and a half before the start subsided. The drainage system, updated last year, did a great job, but a broken cover of one of the manholes on Friday led to a tire rupture and a spectacular accident of Roman Grosjean, due to which the second training session had to be stopped ahead of schedule. Representatives of the FIA and the technical services of the circuit then double-checked all drainage hatches.

On Friday, on the wet track, the Red Bull Racing drivers were very fast, on the dry track, the Ferrari drivers had the advantage, but Lewis Hamilton won the qualification. Mercedes didn't go without problems during the weekend, the tires could not be made to work, but in qualifying the temperature of the pavement dropped slightly, and Hamilton's main rival in the fight for the title unexpectedly dropped out of the fight.

At the end of Saturday training, the engine power fell on Vettel's car, it was decided to replace it, but the problems continued in qualifying - as a result, the German did not drive a single fast lap. Before the race, the power plant components were replaced on his car, putting the fifth engine, turbine and MGU-H, but the fine with the loss of 20 positions did not affect anything - Vettel started last anyway.

There were no other penalties. Hamilton and Raikkonen shared the first row of the starting field. Verstappen and Riccardo are second, Bottas and Ocon started from third. Sergio Perez was not feeling well due to stomach problems. Pierre Gasly replaced Daniil Kvyat in the Toro Rosso - the stage in Malaysia was the first in the Frenchman's career.

Leaving the pits, Raikkonen complained about the operation of the power plant, he got to the starting field, where the mechanics took up the car. It was not possible to solve the problem promptly. The car was driven into the pits, Kimi could not participate in the race.

Tire manufacturers brought Medium, Soft and SuperSoft formulations to Sepang. Before the start, the asphalt remained slightly wet after rain, including on the even side of the starting field. Wehrlein, Erickson and Vettel started on Soft, the rest started the race on SuperSoft.

At the start, Hamilton kept the lead. Bottas got off to a great start, moving up to third, Vandorn to fifth. Ocon and Massa collided at Turn 2 but continued the race. The Williams riders were ahead of Hulkenberg. Vettel made several overtakings, rising to 12th place.

Malaysia says goodbye to Formula 1. Or "Formula 1" says goodbye to Malaysia. Whatever you say - this weekend the last Grand Prix in the history of this country is taking place on the Serang track - back in April it became known that the contract with FOM (Formula One Management) would not be renewed, and the race in 2017 would be the last. And before the next racing weekend, the Malaysian side once again announced about.

As always, before qualifying, the pilots had three sessions of free practice. And in the first training session, the teams allowed their reservists to drive cars. At Renault instead of Niko Hulkenberg, Russian Sergey Sirotkin left for the track, at Haas Antonio Giovinazzi replaced Kevin Magnussen, Charles Leclerc reeled circles for Sauber instead of Marcus Eriksson, and Sean Gelael replaced Carlos Sainz for Toro Rosso.

Recall that in the Malaysian Grand Prix 2017 - by decision of the leadership of the Toro Rosso team, Pierre Gasly, who is the first candidate for the seat, sits in the car instead Carlos Sainz. The same story will be repeated at the Japanese Grand Prix.

As for training, the Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was the best in the first session, the Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel was the fastest in the second session, and his partner Kimi Raikkonen led the protocol in the third.

Lewis Hamilton has won the most pole positions in Malaysia, starting from first place four times (2012, 2014, 2015 and ). Fernando Alonso (2003, 2005), Felipe Massa (2007, 2008) and Sebastian Vettel (2011, 2013) won twice in qualifying. At the same time, according to statistics, out of 18 races held at Sepang, only 9 were won by the driver who started from the first place.

In the first part of qualifying, Lewis Hamilton showed the best time. Second was Max Verstappen and third was Valtteri Bottas. The slowest drivers were Haas drivers Roman Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen, as well as Sauber drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Markus Eriksson.

Sebastian Vettel also joined the outsiders - even in training, the Ferrari driver had problems with the engine, due to which he had to be changed, but after the very first lap in the first qualifying session, the German driver returned to the pits with complaints about the turbines. As a result, Vettel did not drive a single fast lap at all and did not show any result. Seb was admitted to the race by a special decision of the stewards, and will start last. Or from the pit lane, if the Ferrari mechanics violate the rules of the closed park for the sake of repair.

In the second qualifying round The fastest were Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) - it is worth noting that the gap between second and third place was only five thousandths of a second! Williams drivers Felipe Massa and Lance Stroll, Renault's Jolyon Palmer and Toro Rosso drivers Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly lost much more to the leaders - they did not qualify for the final.

In the qualifying final, Lewis Hamilton again became the strongest - the Mercedes driver won the fifth and last pole position in Malaysia, which also became his 9th this season and 70th in his career. Kimi Raikkonen will start from second position and Max Verstappen from third. Further, if there are no penalties, Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), Esteban Ocon (Force India), Stoffel Vandorn (McLaren), Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Sergio Perez (Force India) will be located at the start ) and Fernando Alonso (McLaren).

Recall that after 14 stages, Lewis Hamilton was 28 points ahead of his main rival, Sebastian Vettel, who retired due to the starting batch for . Given the failure in qualifying, we can safely say that the Ferrari driver in the race will be angrier than usual, because there is too little time left until the end of the championship to afford to make mistakes. But do not forget the technical "miracles" when the leaders suddenly , not allowing to reach a certain victory. In addition, just winning the last (!) Malaysian Grand Prix is doubly pleasant. So the race is going to be interesting.

Today at 10:00 Moscow time the Malaysian Grand Prix starts on October 1, 2017 at the Sepang circuit in Kuala Lumpur. After the Singapore Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton took the lead.

Malaysian Grand Prix October 1, 2017. Announcement
The main feature of the Formula 1 race of the 15th stage of the Malaysian Grand Prix is that Sebastian Vettel could not start, as the mechanics did not have time to change the engine on his car before the end of the first segment. The stewards decided to allow Sebastian Vettel to the start of the Malaysian Grand Prix in last place on the grid.

In the overall standings, Sebastian Vettel has 235 points and Lewis Hamilton has 263 points.

Characteristics of the racing circuit at the Sepang Circuit (Kuala Lumpur). Drivers have to complete 56 laps, each lap is 5.543 km long, the length of the race is 310.408 km.

And yet Sebastian Vettel is a great racer. From the last position to reach the 4th position at the finish line is expensive.

Almost every year at least one session of the Malaysian Grand Prix takes place in the rain, and this year was no exception, despite the fact that the stage was moved to autumn. The rain started before the start of the first training session, because of this, the start of training had to be postponed.

On the eve of the Malaysian Grand Prix, representatives of Toro Rosso announced that during this stage they will work with Pierre Gasly, who took the place of Daniil Kvyat.

On Friday, on a wet track, the Red Bull drivers were confidently in the lead. In the afternoon, the asphalt dried up, and in such conditions Ferrari had the advantage.

During free races in Malaysia, a drainage hatch cover broke on the track, and Roman Grosjean ran into it. After this collision, the Frenchman received a puncture and crashed into the barrier. Haas employees had to restore the car - representatives of the FIA allowed them to violate the curfew rule.

Mercedes had problems, because of this they had no pace. The current champions tried to solve the problems that had arisen.

At the end of the final training session, Vettel's car had problems with the engine. Before the start of qualifying, the German received a new engine, but there were also problems with it, so the Ferrari driver did not participate in qualifying, although the results of free practice indicated that he was the main contender for pole position.

As a result, the pole was won by Hamilton, the second time was shown by Raikkonen, and the third by Verstappen.

A new internal combustion engine, turbine and MGU-H were installed on Vettel's car, so he was punished with the loss of 20 places on the starting field, but this did not affect the German starting position - he already had to start the race from the last place.

On the way to the starting grid, Raikkonen had problems with the motor. On the grid, the Ferrari staff tried to solve this problem, but they did not succeed, so Kimi's car was returned to the pits. Raikkonen did not participate in the race.

Pirelli brought three medium rubber compounds to Malaysia: Medium, Soft and SuperSoft. Vettel, Erickson and Wehrlein started on Soft, and everyone else started on SuperSoft.

At the start, Hamilton kept the lead. Bottas was able to climb to third position, and Vandorn - to fifth. Massa and Ocon clashed but continued to fight. Hulkenberg was overtaken by Massa and Stroll. Vettel moved up to 12th place.

After contact with Massa, Okon had a puncture, so he made a pit stop.

The leader complained about problems with ERS. On lap 4, Max Verstappen caught up with Hamilton and overtook him. Pilot Red Bull began to come off.

On lap 8, Perez overtook Vandorn, on lap 9, Ricciardo was able to get ahead of Bottas. Vettel continued his breakthrough - he was ahead of Alonso and Magnussen and climbed to 9th line.

Hulkenberg pitted on lap 10, Magnussen did it on lap 11, Massa and Grosjean on lap 12, Gasly on lap 13, Palmer and Vandorn on lap 14.

Stroll overtook Massa and Vandorn overtook Wehrlein. On lap 21, Vettel overtook Perez and moved up to fifth position.

On lap 25, there was contact between Okon and Sainz, after which Esteban turned around.

Vettel approached Bottas. Lewis Hamilton pitted on lap 26, Alonso did it on lap 27, Vettel and Verstappen on lap 28, and Bottas on lap 29. Valtteri returned to the track behind Vettel.

On lap 30, Sainz had problems with the engine and retired. Riccardo and Perez made pit stops.

Alonso overtook Magnussen. On lap 38, Palmer's car spun.

Vettel began to rapidly catch up with Riccardo. The German was able to set a new track record in Malaysia.

On lap 48, Sebastian was able to use the DRS system, but Daniel successfully fought off all attacks. The rubber on Vettel's car lost effectiveness, so Ricciardo was able to break away a bit.

Verstappen won the race in Malaysia, with Hamilton finishing second and Ricciardo third. Vettel finished fourth, but he was unable to return to the pits - on a slow lap he collided with Lance Stroll. Wehrlein drove Vettel to the pits. In addition, Vettel showed the best lap of the race - 1.34.080, thus breaking the record of Juan Pablo Montoya in 2004.

For Verstappen, the victory in Malaysia was the second in his career. Stoffel Vandorn repeated his best result career - 7th place. Pierre Gasly finished 14th in his debut race.
