Purification of the nadis. Chakras and nadis - energy centers and channels of the etheric body

Yoga and nadi energy channels

An Indian sage was once asked, "Where is God?" And his answer was both simple and complex: "He lives in the breath within each breath."

To understand the full depth of this saying, one must look beyond just breathing on physical level(oxygen, carbon dioxide and other substances that we inhale and exhale). Outside of each breath, but at the same time within it, is prana, vital energy, which is literally the basis of life.

One of the goals of yoga is to control this energy, to use it for our physical, mental and spiritual development. To learn how to redirect prana, let's turn to the deeper levels of consciousness and the subtle body.

Fortunately, this inner world has already been explored before us by the early followers of Tantra, who were able to visualize the many ways in which energy circulates within the human body. Those who have attained perfection in the practice of tantra have been able to discover the systemenergy channels correct the functioning of which makes a person energetic, holistic and enlightened.

The Sanskrit word "nadi" has the root "over", meaning "flow", "movement", "vibration". In the very word reflected the nature of the nadis is to flow like water, seek the path of least resistance and energize everything in its path. Nadi is our energy irrigation system; in fact, we only exist through the channels of the nadis.

In the literature, there are different intelligence about the number of nadi channels. According to many tantric texts, the human body contains 72,000 nadis, which direct prana into every cell of the body (according to other sources, there are 300,000 or more of them). Some channels are wide, with an intense flow of energy, while others are similar thin thread . When the energy in the channels flows freely and unobstructed, we are healthy and energetic, but if it weakens or blocked , we begin to get sick on a mental and physical level. To enhance the movement of prana, hatha yoga classes are effective, which help to activate the flow of energy and remove obstacles that interfere with its free movement.

Since nadis cannot be seen through a microscope (however, like chakras - psycho-energetic centers, and prana, and other elements of the subtle body), modern medicine does not take them seriously. But classical yoga is based on the reality of the subtle body, work with which is also important as well as the development of the physical body.Unfortunately, now the emphasis is on the gymnastic aspect of yoga.

Day and night

Three nadis are of particular interest to yogis: the first of them is sushumna ( the most important ascendant channel) - a large "river" flowing from the base of the spine to the top of the head and successively passing through all seven chakras. Through this channel rises the energy of kundalini shakti (“the power of the sleeping snake”), and with it the higher spiritual consciousness that it feeds. Her movement begins at the muladhara (root chakra) and ends in her true abode - in the sahasrara chakra ("thousand-petalled lotus"), at the crown of the head.On a subtle energy levelsushumna nadi is the path to enlightenment.

The second channel is called ida nadi and the third is called pingala nadi. These two channels (ida on the left and pingala on the right) spiral around the sushumna like a DNA double helix, crossing each other at each chakra. If you think of the caduceus, the symbol of modern medicine, it bears some visual resemblance to the interplay of ida, pingala, and sushumna. As a result, all three centers converge in the ajna chakra (“control chakra”), which is located in the middle of the forehead between the eyebrows.

The ida channel begins and ends to the left of the sushumna. It is also called the "lunar channel"; he is cool and responsible for emotions and the past, and correlates more with the feminine qualities of a person. The color white is used to represent the subtle vibrational nature of the ida nadi.

Pingala nadi is also called the "solar channel"; it begins and ends to the right of the sushumna. This channel is warm and stimulating, it controls all vital somatic processes and correlates with the masculine aspects of human nature. The vibrational qualities of the pingala nadi are indicated in red.

The interaction between Ida Nadi and Pingala Nadi can be compared to an invisible pair dance of intuition and reason, consciousness and vitality, left and right hemispheres. In normal Everyday life one of the nadi channels always prevails over the other. Channels dominate in turn, but one of them usually dominates longer and more intensely than the other. Properties and problems of character, behavior and health of a person can be divided into two groups: according to the type of ida-nadi and according to the type of pingala-nadi.

Ida type people have "lunar" qualities; they are emotional and caring, but they may lack the tenacity to go through intense yoga practice. Such people may have great potential, but they will not fully manifest it in earthly affairs or in spiritual development until they develop their qualities of pingala nadi. Pingala-type people have more developed solar qualities: they have the makings of a leader, energy and creativity. But if they don't develop their ida side, they may lack the peace, introspection, and sensitivity needed for spiritual awakening.

Balancing Ida and Pingala

The main goal of hatha yoga is to balance the energy of ida and pingala. This task is so important that the very word "hatha" symbolizes this balance of energies. Its literal meaning in Sanskrit is "powerful", but it also consists of two syllables "ha" and "tha", which are seed mantras (bija mantras) with secret meaning and power. "Ha" denotes solar qualities, vitality - pingala; "tha" - mind and lunar qualities of ida-nadi. The balancing of the sun and moon, pingala and ida contributes to the awakening and rise of the kundalini, and with it the development of higher consciousness. Moreover, some areas of yoga believe that as long as there is a predominance of one of the energies - ida or pingala, the sushumna channel remains closed, and the kundalini energy continues to remain dormant.

by the most effective method balancing ida and pingala is Nadi Shodhana (literal translation from Sanskrit - "purification of nadis"), the practice of breathing through the nose with alternating nostrils. This method is based on the direct connection of the ida nadi with the left nostril, and the pingala nadi with the right nostril.

A great way to restore the balance between the two nadis is to do a few rounds of pranayama after asana practice, just in case you unintentionally upset the balance of energies during asanas.

The practice of Nadi Shodhana - purification of energy channels.

Take a comfortable meditative posture. Make a fist right hand, then set aside the ring finger and little finger. Put a pillow thumb on the right nostril, and the pads of the ring finger and little finger on the left. Clamp ring finger and the left nostril with the little finger, and exhale completely with the right nostril. Then inhale fully, close the right nostril with your thumb, open the left nostril and exhale completely through it. Then inhale, close the left nostril with your fingers, open the right nostril and exhale through it. This ends one cycle of Nadi Shodhana.

In addition to using Nadi Shodhana, some asanas can be done to balance ida and pingala. At the beginning of the session, sit down and observe behind with your breath to determine which nostril And, accordingly, the nadi is dominant. If it is difficult for you to determine this, do several breathing cycles with alternating nostrils - so you will immediately understand which side of the breath is freer and which is difficult. If the left nostril dominates, then the ida energy is “on”, and in order to activate the pingala nadi, it makes sense to focus on energetic, invigorating asanas: backbends, twists, inverted poses and asanas performed while standing. If the right nostril dominates, then it is recommended to practice sitting asanas and forward bends: their calm, cooling energy will strengthen the ida-nadi.

In fact, you can control the energies of ida and pingala in every class. yoga : in between postures, observe what energy prevails in your breathing. Also watch behind your mood; you will notice that its changes are also closely related to the prevailing energy of the nadis.

Are you active and agitated (pingala nadi) or calm and alert (ida nadi)? Through such observation, you will understand which postures activate which type of nadi energy, and which ones are most effective for you in achieving physical and emotional balance. Over time, you will be able to better understand your condition, make progress in your yoga practice, and create a foundation for spiritual growth.

Somehow we have already talked about the "fine anatomy" of yoga. Today we will talk in more detail about the nadi channels and the principles of their work.

There are 72,000 channels in our body, but yoga considers three to be the main ones: I go, pingala and sushumna. Sushumna passes in the subtle body along the spinal column, and ida and pingala braid it on the left and right. Ida and pingala end at the ajna chakra, while sushumna goes higher into sahasrara.

  • Ida is a white channel associated with intuition, passivity and reflection. In yoga, this channel is considered "male", although we are accustomed to attribute such qualities to the feminine nature.
  • Pingala is a red channel associated with logic, activity and activity. In yoga, it is considered "feminine".
  • Sushumna - the central channel, it is also called shunya-nadi - empty. It combines both male and female properties, and it is in the sushumna that we must direct prana in order to achieve clarity of consciousness. Kundalini (shakti) rises through the sushumna, thanks to which the yogi acquires siddhi (superpowers), and subsequently liberation.

In everyday life, only ida and pingala work, and sushumna is activated exclusively in the process of meditation. Approximately every 72 minutes, the work of ida and pingala alternates, and at the same time, sushumna turns on for a few seconds or minutes, but we are not able to feel or notice this transition, because we are too busy with our thoughts.

In order to direct prana into the central channel, we must first cleanse the nadis of impurities.

Channel pollution

The pollution of the nadis is facilitated by overuse or underuse of the senses (in general, all impressions that lead to a loss of mindfulness and awareness).

Overuse includes alcohol and drug use. They very quickly deplete the nervous system, literally "burn" it.
In addition, in the city, our senses are constantly attacked by external stimuli, and we experience all sorts of stresses. Leaving for the countryside, we immediately feel better. This is largely due to the fact that our nervous system ceases to experience such terrible overloads.

Underutilization refers to sensory deprivation—the lack of external impressions. If we commute between home and office and spend the evening watching TV, the nadi channels will not work properly because they don't have enough food.

Methods for Purifying Nadis

  • Following the principles of Yama and Niyama. Their violation creates the strongest negative consequences.
  • Do not intoxicate your mind - not only with impressions, but also with states that interfere with concentration. Extremes should be avoided because they always hinder the practice and pollute the nadi channels.
  • Performing asanas (provided that in doing so we try to develop stability and equanimity).
  • The practice of pranayama with accompanying elements - counting breaths, focusing on certain points, performing bandhas.

Cleansing Nadia

They say that pranayama is an association or union prana And apana. It is of three types - exhalation, inhalation and retention. For correct execution pranayama these types are associated with the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. Complete pranayama counts pranava(3?) sitting in padmasana(lotus posture), the yogi should meditate on the fact that on the tip of his nose is Gayat-ri-Devi, the red girl With wand in hand, surrounded by countless moonbeams and sitting astride Hamsa (swan). It is the visible symbol of the letter A (31). The letter U ("3) has as its symbol Savitri, a young girl of white Color with a disk in her hand and riding an eagle (Garuda). The symbol of the letter M (t) is Saraswati, an elderly black woman riding a bull with a trident in her hand. Yogi should meditate on that one letter, the Supreme Light, pranava

is the root or source of these letters -

drawing air through I'm going(left nostril) for 16 matr, he should meditate on the letter A

holding air for 64 matr, he should meditate on the letter while breathing out for 32 matr, he should meditate on

letter M (C).

He must do this exercise over and over again.

Having established himself in the posture and achieved perfect self-control, the yogi, in order to purify sushumnu, should sit in padma sanu and, having inhaled air through the left nostril, retain it as long as possible and exhale through the right nostril. Then, drawing in the air through the right nostril and holding it, he should exhale it through the left - that is, the breath is made through the nostril through which the exhalation was just made. For those who do everything according to this description, nadi cleared in three months. The yogi should practice stopping breathing for 4 weeks at dawn, at noon, at sunset and at midnight slowly, 80 times a day. At the initial stage, sweat is released, at the middle stage, trembling in the body begins, at latest yoga starts to levitate. These are the results of breath holding in padmasana. When sweat is released from effort, the yogi should rub his body well, then it will be strong and light. At the beginning of the practice, one should eat dairy products and ghee. One who follows this rule is established in practice and does not feel burning. (tapas) in body. Like lions, elephants, and tigers, the breath is tamed by firmness and right action.

Classes pranayama give purification nadi, increased gastric fire, the ability to clearly hear spiritual sounds and excellent health. When the nerve centers are cleansed by regular pranayama, air passes easily through the hole sushumna, located in the middle. With contraction of the neck muscles and, accordingly, compression apana, prana from the western nadi heading to sushumnu, which is located in the middle. Su-shumna-nadi passes between Ida And pingala. prana, which usually goes through I'm going then through pingala, pacified by a long kumbhaka and together with the soul, its companion, enters into sushumnu, central nadi, in one of the three places where such restriction of breathing makes entry possible. After that, the yogi dies for the world and enters the state samadhi. Pulling in apa-well and guiding prana down from the throat, the yogi is freed from old age and becomes a youth of sixteen. Pranayama cures even those chronic diseases that are considered incurable in allopathic, homeopathic, Ayurvedic and Unanic* medicines.

When nadi purified, the yogi's body becomes light, thin and very beautiful, the stomach fire intensifies, anxiety disappears.
