What team crashed?

Chapecoense is a little-known team in Russia, there are no players familiar to our fans playing for it. Chapecoense languished at the bottom for a long time, in Serie D, left it in 2009, and in 7 years reached the final of the South American Cup. This fall, for the first time in history, Chapecoense achieved such high point. The match in Colombia was to be the most important in club history ...

How did it happen?

Citing Colombian sources, the Brazilian Globo reports that the plane lost contact with the ground shortly after midnight and crashed 30 km before its scheduled arrival. Controllers lost contact with the pilots as the plane flew over the cities of La Seja and Aberhorral. The missing aircraft began flying at 15:35 local time from Sao Paulo, landing in Eastern Bolivia, in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The plane crashed in the city of La Union, 30 km from Medellin.

It did not explode largely thanks to the efforts of the crew - the pilots knew that the plane was running out of fuel and circled over the area. If not for this, the explosion would have been inevitable.

The first pictures have already been received from the scene.

Why did this happen?

Mayor of the City of La Seja Elkin Ospina stated that the cause of the plane crash was a lack of fuel. Another version, in an official release from the aviation authorities, says that the plane crashed due to electronics failure.

What was the team flying?

The Chapecoense flew on charter aircraft CP-2933. At the beginning of the month, the Argentina national team flew on it.

During the fall, the plane split in half. It is important that the SR-2933 has already suffered 10 air crashes, and most of them during the landing approach.

What do they say at the scene?

The rescue operation at Medellin airport is carried out by more than 90 rescuers from nearby cities - La Union, Rionegro, El Carmen de Vibroal and La Seja. Heavy rain complicates the situation. A state of emergency has been declared in the city, and Air Force helicopters are searching for surviving passengers. "It's hard to find survivors, it's wooded," says Hugo Botero Lopez, Mayor of La Union.

“We are working with local authorities in connection with the emergency situation that occurred with the Chapecoense aircraft,” the airport tweeted.

What do they write in Brazil?

Chapecoense published a short message on their official Facebook page: “Given the conflicting reports coming from various journalistic sources regarding the crash of the plane carrying the Chapecoense team players, we refrain from commenting and await official statements from the Colombian air authorities. May God be with our athletes, leaders, journalists and other members of the delegation.”
Flamengo's official twitter added the Chapecoense logo to their avatar and wrote: "The whole nation is with you."

Are there survivors?

Yes. Protector rushed to La Seja hospital Alan Ruschel rescued from the wreckage of the aircraft. It is reported that Alan has multiple fractures of bones, hips, lacerations of the head. In the hospital, he asked the doctors to keep his wedding ring, asked about the condition of loved ones. His wife, Amanda Ruschel, wrote on her Instagram: "Thank God Alan is in the hospital in a stable condition."

Another survivor already taken to the hospital is a flight attendant Jimena Suarez.

Another 9 Chapecoense players, according to Globo Esporte, did not fly to the match and avoided a plane crash.

Football club "Torino" in the middle of the last century was a strong competitor of their countrymen from the team "Juventus". At the time of the tragedy, he was in the lead in the Italian championship with a four-point lead over the nearest rival. The plane crash happened as the Torino players were returning home from Portugal after losing 3-4 to Benfica in Lisbon. On board the Fiat G 212CP were 18 team members, as well as the club's management and several journalists - a total of 31 people.

The plane crashed near the airport in Torino. Due to the strongest fog, the flight crew lost their orientation in space. The aircraft veered sharply, and it rapidly crashed. All passengers and crew on board were killed. Of the entire team, only Lauro Toma remained alive at that time. He was lucky: due to an earlier injury, he escaped a terrible fate by not flying to the match in Lisbon.

The charred bodies of the victims were placed in the mortuary of the Turin hospital. Relatives of the dead were not involved in the painful identification procedure, so as not to injure the sight of mutilated remains. This heavy burden was taken on former coach"Torino" Vittorio Pozzo.

A British European Airways plane carrying Manchester United footballers crashed at Munich Airport more than half a century ago. On board were the club's players, several coaches, fans and journalists. Of the 44 people, 23 died. 19 wounded were taken to the Munich hospital.

The disaster happened when the team was flying from Belgrade after the match with the local "Red Star" in the Champions League. The airliner refueled on the way in Munich. When he tried to take off, this was prevented by vibrations in the left engine. The pilots made a second attempt to take to the air, but it was also unsuccessful. When the plane took off for the third time, heavy snow began to fall. The aircraft lost speed, broke through the fence at the end of the runway and crashed with its left wing into a house standing nearby.

21 people on board died instantly, the rest lost consciousness. After investigating all the circumstances, the pilot was named the culprit of the crash. However, ten years later, it was possible to establish that the true cause of the disaster was snowfall, due to which the speed of the aircraft dropped sharply, and it could not take off. As a result, the pilot was acquitted.

18 of the best US figure skaters flew from J. Kennedy Airport to Brussels - the athletes had to transfer to another flight to Prague. The team was to perform at the World Championships in the capital of Czechoslovakia. Immediately after the tragic news, the 1961 World Championships in Prague were canceled, and new champion figure skaters appeared in the United States only in 1968.

When investigating the causes of the crash, no signs of problems on board were found. Because of what, at an altitude of less than 300 meters, the Boeing engines suddenly increased power and the already released landing gear "retracted" back, still remains a mystery.

On a hot summer day, Tashkent football players flew to Minsk to play a USSR championship match with the local Dynamo club. After the disaster, only crew member Alexander Sizov and hockey player Alexander Galimov survived. Doctors fought with all their might for the life of an athlete, but because of terrible injuries incompatible with life, he died a few days later.

After investigating the circumstances of the crash, the IAC came to the conclusion that the direct cause of the tragedy was involuntary pressing the brake pedals during the takeoff run of the aircraft. However, the commission could not establish who exactly made the fatal mistake.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that in the Colombian province of Antioquia, a British Aerospace Avro RJ85 aircraft belonging to the Bolivian airline LAMIA crashed. The liner, carrying 81 people, was en route from Sao Paulo to Medellin.

Memorial in memory of Lokomotiv players who crashed in a plane crash. Photo photo.khl.ru

Place: airport Tunoshna (Yaroslavl)

The beginning of the 2011/12 season turned into a nightmare for the entire KHL. The league suddenly lost one of the strongest teams. Yaroslavl "Locomotive" went on the first trip of the season to Minsk on a Yak-42. However, during takeoff, the liner skidded off the runway, could not gain desired height and collided with a radio beacon. The car crashed into the ground near the bank of the Tunoshonka River and exploded. 43 people died instantly. The striker was hospitalized with severe burns. For five days the doctors fought for his life, but could not save him. Only one person survived the crash - the flight engineer Alexander Sizov.

It's hard to remember this. But fate cannot be changed. Six years ago, at 16:00, a Yak-42D airliner crashed into the bank of the Tunoshonka River. This is how the Lokomotiv hockey team died.

I remember that day like I do now.

The season opened in Ufa, where the match for the Opening Cup between Salavat Yulaev and Atlant took place. An hour before the game, a press conference was held by the KHL president and sponsors. Everyone was in high spirits, because we had gathered for the holiday.
A quarter of an hour before the throw-in, they went to their places. Stuck on computers...
And suddenly the terrible news began to spread like spilled ink on a white sheet of paper.

- Have you seen it? The plane with the Lokomotiv crashed...

- Are you kidding! How…

- What if it's a mistake? Someone launched a duck?

- There are no such ducks ...

Call someone on the team!

But the phones were silent. And the news fell. Details, facts. It was very painful.

“At 16.00 near Yaroslavl, during takeoff from the Tunoshna airport…”

All this happened in the room where the commentators sit. And below on the ice there was a game. Salavat Yulaev defender Andrey Kuteikin fired a beautiful shot from the blue line, scoring the first goal of the season.

There, behind the glass, life was still in full swing. Shel hockey. Maybe we've been played absurdly after all?
But a cold whisper was already crawling through the stands. The match was stopped. A pale Alexander Medvedev appeared near the owner's shop. I will never forget his speech. And I can’t imagine how difficult it was to announce this to the whole world.

“A terrible tragedy happened today. The plane crashed, on board of which there were Lokomotiv hockey players, club administrators and coaches. Of the 37 people, only one survived. Whether to continue the match or not, we will decide during the break. I ask you to honor the memory of the dead with a minute of silence.

Everything inside finally turned over, flew down somewhere. Many hockey players cried like children. They were taken to the dressing rooms.

The Atlanta players went to church. They crashed Jan Marek, speaking in the final of last season. He moved to Lokomotiv in such a hurry that they did not manage to award him a silver medal.

The Swedes Fernholm, Zakrisson, Andersson sobbed - their friend Stefan Liv died. Slovak Radivojevic lost Pavol Demitra. Alexey Kovalev was left without Alexander Karpovtsev, Igor Korolev. Konstantin Rudenko played for Lokomotiv, but moved to Mytishchi during the off-season. This saved him...

It was terrible in Ufa, and Yaroslavl generally turned black from trouble. Colleagues who were there, forever crashed into the memory of heavy rain in the dead of night. And the flashing lights of cars near the mortuary of the Solovyov Hospital, where the charred bodies of the players were brought, who were taken from the river. There was an identification...

And next to the "Arena-2000" hills of flowers have grown. Photos of guys, burning candles. No downpour could extinguish them.

There was a glimmer of hope that Alexander Galimov would survive. Terribly burned, doctors tried to save him. Transportation to Moscow. But the miracle didn't happen. Sasha left after five days ...

That plane crash hooked everyone, broke the sprawling crack in the lives of families, very many people. Citizens of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Sweden, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, Canada were killed in that plane. Nine countries. And everyone was united by a common grief.

Remember September 7th. Here it is, in detail. Come to the Leontief cemetery in Yaroslavl. To other places where the guys found their last rest.

What can we give them now? Only memory. And respect. So, I can’t imagine why the school named after Ivan Tkachenko has not yet been built in Yaroslavl, over which the poor father of the Lokomotiv captain has been fighting for many years. The results of the investigation into why the plane crashed also raise questions. The tragedy was overgrown with rumors that turned into myths. But there is no clear answer...

Live for the living. And don't forget the crew that crashed on takeoff on that black Wednesday.

Everlasting memory.
