Agree, it’s a shame to waste precious time in the mountains learning the first skills of skiing or snowboarding! Of course, it’s very beautiful in the mountains, you’re on vacation, but it’s better to master the simplest movements in advance. And just spending time on the slopes in the evening or on weekends is also great. Therefore, we will tell you where this can be done in Moscow or near it.

Within the Moscow Ring Road there are several slopes equipped with lifts. Of course, first of all, it makes sense to go to the slope closest to home: you will spend a minimum of time on the road, and if it’s good there, then why not spend time there?

Sports park“Volen” became one of the first “civilized” ski resorts in the Moscow region, equipped in the Alpine style. It opened in 1998. During its existence, Volen has experienced periods of ups and downs. Soon after its opening, competitors appeared around high level offers and quality of slopes. And although Volen lags behind its neighbors in terms of the length of the slopes, which does not exceed 400 meters, the park management manages to find new solutions to attract skiers and snowboarders to its slopes. One of them is a prudent pricing policy. The park provides significant discounts for children and adults.

Sports complex "Stepanovo"

Resort website: volen.ru

Address: Dmitrovsky district, Stepanovo village, 50 km from MKAD

How to get there. By car along Dmitrovskoye Highway 45 km from the Moscow Ring Road, turn left at the sign “Volen”. Then another 3.5 kilometers past the Volen and Yakhroma parks to the Stepanovo complex. The landmarks are chairlifts and chalets. The second option is an electric train from Savelovsky station to Yakhroma station. You can take a taxi at the station.

The Stepanovo ski complex is located in a secluded place in a picturesque forest at a distance of 5 kilometers from the Volen sports park. This subsidiary project of the Volen park was opened near the village of Stepanovo in 2000. The natural slope leading to the Volgush River was raised even further by adding imported soil. The result was a slope 1 kilometer long and a height difference of 110 meters. This figure is the highest in the Moscow region. Stepanovsky slopes are most loved by snowboarders.

On the main slope there is a route with several steep drops 900 meters long and a drop of 110 meters, and a second, simpler one, 850 meters long, runs along the cable car. On the central slope there is a trail with steep drops 700 meters long. On the Strekovsky slope there are two simple routes with a length of 550 and 580 meters and a drop of 50 meters.

The slopes are served by three chairlifts. One of them, a domestic-made double chair, is quite old and very slow. The other two are more modern and faster. Two lifts also serve the opposite slope on the other side of the river near the village of Strekovo. It is noticeably shorter and flatter. This slope is most suitable for beginners. It is usually descended from the village of Strekovo, where you can drive up to Stepanovo.

All tracks are illuminated with floodlights and equipped with snow cannons. The lifts are open until late. Under the cover of tall spruce trees, the snow here is preserved better and longer than in its neighbors. Fans of alpine skiing, snowboarding and secluded slopes often prefer Stepanovo to other, more crowded resorts. It is quiet here and there are relatively few people on the slope, which allows you to feel closer to nature and makes it possible to forget about the bustle of the city.

Near the upper station of the lift there is a two-story building in which there are changing rooms, rental, ski service, luggage storage, and a toilet.

The choice of food outlets in Stepanovo is not so varied, but you can still choose between the Pit Stop bistro, the Ski Cafe and the Caramel cafe.

This is the only year-round roofed slope in Russia and the largest such complex in Europe. Here you can ski in the snow at any time of the year. The temperature in the room is constantly maintained at about -3…–7°C. The thickness of the snow cover ranges from 50 to 90 centimeters, and the area of snow cover is 22 thousand square meters. This is approximately the area of four football fields. The ceiling height above the slope is 12 meters, and the roof does not “press” from above at all.

Both in winter and summer, the characteristics of the surface on the slope do not change. And it’s not just the temperature, but the fact that the snow here is not quite ordinary. It is obtained by crushing pieces of ice produced by three refrigeration machines into small crumbs. Geneglace. Each of them produces 30 tons of ice per day. Snow is produced outside and supplied to the slope through plastic pipes. This allows you to maintain a unique microclimate inside the complex. The coating is more slippery and, accordingly, faster. With a relatively small slope (no more than 28%), you can accelerate to high speeds, which is what athletes use during training.

High-speed Austrian lifts, even when the slope is fully loaded, do not allow queues to form. The slope, with a width of 60 meters, allows several hundred skiers and snowboarders to ride simultaneously. The total capacity of the complex, including changing rooms, rentals and a cafe, is 800 people.

“Snezh.com” provides everything you need, even small things. Inside the complex there are enough places where you can just have a snack and have a hearty lunch or dinner after skiing. There are restaurants, cafes and bars to suit a wide range of tastes. On the territory of Snezh.com there is a whole health and entertainment complex with an Olympic-size skating rink, an aqua zone with saunas and a swimming pool, a whole labyrinth for playing paintball, game rooms, a shooting range, a children's entertainment area, shops and a conference room.

Children - off to school!

Enrollment in children's ski schools has begun

“Get your skis ready in the summer” applies most not so much to the skis and other equipment themselves, but to the skiers. Especially the young ones. All the best Moscow ski schools began recruiting groups in September, and the first training sessions are now underway. So if you want to see your child skiing/snowboarding this season, there is no need to wait for the first snow.

“Snowless” training in almost all respected institutions includes rollers, general physical training (ball, jumping, jumping ropes and other exercises), in some schools - a trampoline and a bicycle.

For the first lessons, it is not necessary to buy the entire set of equipment; you can rent it until it becomes clear that the sport you have chosen will suit your child.

What you will most likely have to fork out for is a helmet (for those who are not too familiar with the details, there are different helmets for roller skates and skis). The price of a new roller (bicycle) helmet is 900-1500 rubles. You can’t do without a protection kit - it’s sold in any decent sports store. An attempt to save money and buy inexpensive protection usually ends with the fact that after 4-5 lessons you have to buy a new one - the handhelds are the first to fall apart, then other parts suffer. The average cost of a children's set that will last longer than 1 month is from 1100 rubles. For gentle and whiny people, protective shorts (from 450 RUR) are very suitable for their first rollerblading sessions.

Even if the sports school does not require a doctor’s certificate, be sure to consult with a pediatrician and/or surgeon: for some orthopedic problems skiing and the videos are not shown.

Of the Moscow sports schools, we interviewed the three most famous and popular: “Kant”, CSKA Ski School and the Russian State School “Stolitsa”.

SKI SCHOOL CSKA

A school known for its good level of teaching and, of course, its director. The head of the CSKA Ski Resort, Sergei Petrik, is a master of sports of international class, a ten-time and last champion of the USSR, a prize-winner of the European Championships, a wonderful coach (by the way, with a higher pedagogical and legal education). On his experience and authority, both the children’s school and the slope itself have been supported and successfully developed for many years. This year, the school accepts children from 5 years old; for preschoolers, training takes place in the morning (Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Friday, from 10.00 to 11.30), schoolchildren train three times a week after school. In the off-season, one lesson is physical training (on the street or in the sports hall/gym, coordination exercises, hopscotch, jump ropes, etc.), another one is roller skating.

To enroll in the school, you must bring a copy of your birth certificate, a copy of your insurance policy, a doctor’s certificate stating that the child can engage in skiing and 1 photograph. Subscription price for whole season (from September to May) – 8000 rubles, it is possible to pay 50% followed by payment of the balance until December. If two children attend school at once, discounts apply.

Pros:

  • Pleasant, almost homely, chamber atmosphere - both in the groups themselves and throughout the school;
  • Small groups and strong level teaching;
  • Classes take place in a forested, ecologically clean area, in the area of Filevsky Park, next to the Moscow River;
  • Several times a year the school goes to sports and recreation camps and competitions;
  • Good preparation of the slopes (2 snowcats, 2 lifts), during training the entry of strangers is limited;
  • Affordable prices.

Cons:

  • Classes are held on weekdays, so preschoolers have to miss classes in the garden or preparation for school (for older groups, classes are held in the afternoon);
  • The number of coaches is limited: if your child does not “get along” with the teacher, you will have to change school.
  • They teach only alpine skiing and rollerblading; they do not teach snowboarding or skateboarding.

Coordinates: Tel. 415 4015, Rublevskoe highway, no. 24, metro station: "Molodezhnaya", "Krylatskoe".

How to get there: from Rublevskoye Highway (from the center), turn right between the Hedgehog store and the Eurodry Cleaning building, then straight to the fence and right, drive parallel to the Moscow River.

KANT

In order to become a professional, and most importantly, a successful snowboarder, you need to determine whether you are ready for this. Staale Sandbech, silver medalist in slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2010 World Junior Champion, has identified three criteria that can help answer this question. You need to determine for yourself whether you are ready to spend four hours every day for ten years just on training? This requires not only the desire to practice, but also strength and endurance, as well as patience.

Our reflection is in our friends. It is much easier to do what you love when you have like-minded people. Snowboarding must grow from just a hobby into the meaning of life, you must become like Victor Wilde. By the way, this is the only double Olympic champion in snowboarding, which earned two gold medals at the same Games. According to Staale, the coach's main job is to plan and organize, but it's the riders' job to help each other develop. The third criterion is whether you are able to truly enjoy what you do. Snowboarding, in a professional sense, should become a part of your life.

The first step on the path to professionalism is a snowboarding school. Today there are quite a lot of them. You need to choose the school where the chosen discipline is taught, be it parallel slalom, board cross and others. Groups are formed according to the age of the students. Initial training starts at age five. Educational and training groups are formed for teenagers and adults, as well as sports improvement classes.

It is important that the snowboard school conducts classes according to a well-designed program, which should include various exercises such as running, trampoline, jumping training, skateboarding, power loads. A snowboarder must have developed muscles and excellent endurance, which requires different types training.

There are several operating in Russia good schools. One of them is Proboard. Its main direction is olympic snowboarding. Children aged eight years and older are accepted there. School students show good results, are members of the teams of the city of Moscow and Russia. Training is carried out not only in winter, but also in summer. Training trips are conducted to the mountains not only of Russia, but also of Europe. In the summer there are trampoline classes, outdoor games, roller skating, cycling and other types of exercise.

IN sports camps training camps are taking place. In the summer of 2014, for example, it was held in Lithuania. Many Russian snowboarders are students of this school. Among them are Ekaterina Khatomchenkova, who took third place at the World Championship in parallel slalom, as well as Russian snowboarder Konstantin Shipilov, silver medalist in parallel giant slalom. Undoubtedly, the graduates of this school have something to brag about.

Snowboarding at the Olympics attracts a lot of attention. This popular look sports not only among children and youth. Here, to succeed, you need to be the best snowboarder athlete. Another snowboarding sports school, SmartSnow, can provide this opportunity. Here, training takes place according to the Austrian program, which is divided into three levels, depending on complexity. Initial and basic will allow you to master basic technique skiing, an advanced level will provide the opportunity to learn various types of snowboarding, such as freeride, piste skiing and others. According to the school's official website, its instructors have undergone special training, which is confirmed by relevant certificates.

For a snowboarder, probably the highest sports award is an Olympic gold medal. In 2014, the Russian team achieved particular success. Not only American-born Russian snowboarder Victor Wild made his contribution, but also Nikolai Olyulin, silver medalist in snowboard cross.

Those you should look up to

Considering that the Russian team includes graduates of domestic schools, we can confidently talk about the effectiveness of the classes. Snowboarding classes at school will provide conditions for self-improvement, which is required not only for beginners, but also for accomplished athletes. For example, Victor Wilde. Despite the fact that from 2000 to 2011 his home was the United States national team, his first Olympic medal, and then he received the second only in 2014 at the Games in Sochi, representing Russia. Only hard training made it possible to achieve such an excellent result.

They know about snowboarding in Russia not only thanks to our athletes. Team USA also contributed, namely Seth Wescott, who earned two gold medals in 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver. He tried various sports and ended up doing right choice. A native of North Carolina, he is a three-time silver medal winner in boardercross at the world championships and a 2005 gold medalist. He owes much of his achievements to the Carrabassett Valley Sports Academy, where not only Seth, but also his colleagues on the national team trained.

Snowboarding is common not only among men, but also among women. The women's team can boast of Natalia Soboleva. More recently, this athlete became the best among juniors, winning gold medal in the parallel giant slalom at the world championships, which took place in Yabuli (China). Prior to this, the athlete received gold in parallel slalom. By the way, this is Natalia’s fourth championship title among juniors. Even Victor Wild, who performed superbly at the 2014 Olympic Games, would be jealous.

Various types and the directions of snowboarding give freedom of choice to the novice athlete. The most suitable discipline can be chosen based on personal preferences, physical abilities, as well as an innate predisposition to one of them. In any case, success will depend solely on the desire to become the best.
