The rod is equipped without rings. Every knitting has its time, attaching the fishing line to the fly rod

Many anglers have caught their first trophy using a fly rod. This fishing method is very exciting and requires high concentration and silence. The possibility of such tackle has a low reach area, unlike a feeder or donkey. The hook with bait is located just a few meters from the fisherman, which forces him to behave quietly without making unnecessary noise. As a result, fishing with a fly rod allows you to catch a trophy only if you have the appropriate experience, which makes it doubly desirable. This gear requires a quick reaction to hook and if slow it leads to the loss of the bait.

In terms of waste, the fly rod equipment is considered the most economical. In order to assemble it you will need a minimum set of accessories:

  • rod;
  • connector;
  • fishing line;
  • float;
  • sinkers;
  • hook.

This type of gear is the most ancient. Fishing with a fly rod is familiar to most anglers since childhood. Previously, hazel or bamboo was used as a fishing rod. These materials are quite strong and flexible. If you do not dry them out, then even a large fish cannot break the rod. The disadvantage is that this fly rod is too heavy. It has a limited length and often becomes bent during storage.

Nowadays fishing stores offer a wide range of fishing rods. top quality than hazel or bamboo. They are a telescopic blank without rings, made of fiberglass or carbon fiber. This rod is light, it does not swell when wet and has a perfectly even shape.

Various manufacturers offer blanks whose length ranges from 3 to 11 m. Naturally, longer models will allow you to cast bait further, but they are also heavier. If the fishing point is only 5-7 m from the shore, then a rod of maximum length will not be suitable. Even if you cast the float so close, there will be several meters of weakened fishing line left. As a result of sagging when biting, it will take too long for the tension and hook to occur.

Photo 1. Modern fly rod.

To solve this problem, you need to place the form on a support at an upward angle. This will create additional tension, but in windy weather it will be a completely inconvenient method. It is optimal to use rods 5-6 m long, which have average performance and are suitable for most fishing conditions.

Connector installation

Rigging a fly rod takes minimal time. The rod is transported folded without fishing line. The main line is attached to the fly rod using a connector. It is a miniature attachment at the end of the form. It is attached with glue and has a special groove into which a ring or loop is inserted, tied to the main fishing line.

Such tying to a loop will allow you to install the equipment, which is stored on a special reel, in just a few seconds. The fasteners made are very reliable and, in the event of a break, allow for quick replacement with a spare set of gear. In addition, you can easily change equipment depending on conditions. For windy weather, choose option with large float and a heavy load, and if a large fish bites, then give preference to a set with a thick fishing line.

If the connector on the fly rod is not secured, then you need to put it on yourself. To do this, first drop a little glue onto the tip of the form. This precaution will be an additional guarantee that the trophy will not go away along with the fishing line. While the pouring is taking place, you can simultaneously make removable equipment.

Photo 2. The loop clings to the connector.

Assembly of equipment

The gear used for a regular fly fishing rod is inexpensive, so if the object being fished is small, then you should give preference to a fishing line of 0.2 mm or thinner. Braided line is used only for trophy fish. To begin with, take the fishing line for the fly fishing rod, onto which the float is installed, without cutting it off from the reel. It needs to be placed so that the tip points towards the coil. The float for the fly fishing rod is taken as usual for blind equipment. Its load is selected depending on the size of the rod. If it is long, then the cast will be long and necessary heavy weight to cover the distance.

Then the leash is tied using a loop or knot. It is best not to use additional conspicuous accessories such as stoppers, swivels or carabiners. After this, you should take the hook and tie it to the leash with a standard knot. In order for the loops to tighten securely, it is recommended to wet the fishing line. The leash should be short and not exceed 15-30 cm in length and 0.12 mm in thickness.

Photo 3. Set of floats and sinkers.

All that remains is to select the weight for the float. It’s very good if you have a set of pellets of a fixed weight, then you can attach them to the junction of the main fishing line and the leash. Their weight must correspond to that indicated on the float body. This will make the tackle as sensitive as possible and will allow you to notice the bite of even cautious fish.

In fact, everything is ready, but the assembled equipment is still wound on the reel. It is necessary to unfold the rod and fix the hook at the bottom of its base. After unwinding the coil towards the tip, cut off the required length. All that remains is to make a loop on the fishing line and attach it to the connector.

Preparing spare equipment

Since solving the question of how to attach a fishing line to a fly rod does not take much time, you can prepare several sets of spare equipment. This will solve a number of problems:

  • restore a fishing rod if it breaks;
  • change the thickness of the fishing line;
  • switch to a heavier or lighter float;
  • use another hook without having to re-tie it.

Having even one fishing rod, you can prepare it for a wide variety of fishing conditions. First of all, to equip a fly fishing rod, you should take care of the standard equipment described above. But a stronger version is also useful for trophy fish. It often happens that in the feeding area, instead of the usual crucian carp, large carp begin to bite. Naturally, a 0.2 mm fishing line cannot cope with them. In this case, it would be useful to have an assembly option based on a thicker fishing line or cord.

Photo 4. Spare equipment.

If the biting activity leaves much to be desired, then you can use the option with a small and inconspicuous hook. The fish are unlikely to feel it, so they will become interested with less fear. When, on the contrary, small fish are actively biting, then equipment with a large hook will weed them out. When fishing with a fly rod, it is very easy to experiment, because it is very easy to secure the line using the connector. The presence of several reels, with different options for collecting equipment wound on them, will increase the chances of a successful fishing outcome.

Choosing bait when fishing with a fly rod

Most anglers know almost everything about fly fishing, because it was with this method that they began their hobby. Knowing how to tie a fishing line and select gear does not guarantee a catch. The next component of success lies in the choice of bait. In this capacity you can use:

    .

In such places, bites occur most often, but since the hook is located close to obstacles, snags often occur. It is not always possible to get rid of them from the shore and a break occurs. In this case, a spare set attached to the reel will allow you to resume fishing in just a few minutes. When hooked, fishermen often use a trick and remove the loop of the main line from the connector until it breaks. Having secured it on the shore, they continue fishing with spare equipment.

At the end of fishing, you can go into the water or swim up on a boat to release the hook, thereby saving the equipment. In this case, the fact that the fish will be scared away no longer matters, because there will no longer be a need to catch it. It often turns out that the same trophy that dragged the tackle into the obstacle was sitting on the hook all this time.

You can fish in different ways: some prefer active fishing with a spinning rod, others like waiting for a bite on the feeder. But for almost all avid fishermen, the first memories of this process are associated with a fly rod, which sometimes they themselves did not equip. These days, not everyone knows how to tie a fishing line to a fishing rod without rings firmly and reliably, but the secret is simple. Visiting the store fishing gear with a good consultant, all problems will be solved; in addition, it is advisable to have some basic knowledge about such equipment.

To rig, you first need to choose the rod itself. This issue should be taken seriously; the productivity of the fishing process will largely depend on this.

The fly rod is a blank, without rings on the knees and a reel seat. The name comes from the word “wave”; this is exactly the action that a fisherman performs in order to cast the finished equipment.

The length of the rods varies, and the casting distance of the equipment depends on it. This type is chosen for short and medium distances; long-distance casting will not be possible.

Important! You won’t be able to throw the rig far with a short blank.

Fishing rods of this type have sizes from 3 to 11 meters, their use is adjusted according to the fishing location. In a familiar body of water it will be easy for you to find your way; in an unfamiliar place you will have to try the entire arsenal of fishing rods and choose the most suitable one. Usually, every real fisherman usually has several forms of different lengths with selected equipment.

Flying rods are made:

  1. Made from fiberglass.
  2. Made from carbon fiber.
  3. Composite materials.

The lightest will be a carbon blank, but it must be protected from impacts. Test values are usually 5-25 g, which allows the use of the lightest floats in the equipment.

Fiberglass fishing rods will be heavier than carbon ones, but the price will be lower. Usually their test indicator is 10-30, here you can use heavier floats and thicker fishing lines.

Composite materials allowed manufacturers to combine the relatively low weight of the form and fairly powerful performance when retrieving the catch. It can be equipped with both a sensitive goose feather and heavier “bombs”.

Advice! When choosing a fly-type rod, it is better to give preference to one that has a minimum number of elbows.

What is a connector?

We decided on the rod, took the floats, and got the fishing line too. You can start equipping. How to secure the fishing line on such a form? Especially for such fishing rods, special devices have recently begun to be produced, with which you can tie a fishing line of the required length. It's called a connector; it is attached to the very top of the whip using waterproof glue.

Photo 1. External type connectors.

The fishing connector is:

  • external, it is selected according to the external diameter of the tip;
  • internal, it is only suitable for hollow whips.

Both species have approximately identical structure. The attachment to the tip consists of two parts, one of which has a loop-shaped end, the second serves as a lock for it. Connectors are made of plastic or metal.

The metal one will be more reliable; when outputting even large specimens, it will hold securely on the tip and will not break, but it will also add weight to the form. If you use stands, then these are minor things, but holding such a fishing rod in your hands all the time, even a carbon one, will be a bit difficult.

Plastic connectors are the most common. They are light, quite durable, and their cost is not high. But the service life is much shorter than that of metal products.

How to choose?

Manufacturers usually equip expensive branded fishing rods with such an attachment right away. Simpler forms come with either a rope on a whip or a metal ring. There are models without such conveniences; it is best to immediately select a connector for them. A salesperson in the fishing department, even with little experience, can easily cope with this task.

  • When purchasing a product, whether made of metal or plastic, be sure to pay attention to its appearance. The connector lock should not move easily; you need to apply a little force to move it.
  • The nozzle must be smooth, without burrs or defects, otherwise the line on it will fray very quickly.
  • If possible, test the strength of the purchased product; it should not break under light pressure.

Advice ! When choosing a connector, it is better to give preference to more expensive models.

The external and internal nozzles have a wide range of seat sizes; of course, you can select them “by eye”, but it’s better not to. Ideally, it is better to take the whip itself with you and select the connector exactly to size.

Advice! The bait should fit tightly on or into the rod tip.

We secure the fishing line

For complete preparation, it is necessary to secure the fishing line, because without it fishing is impossible.

  • At one end of the fishing line we make a loop and tighten it, but not to the point of a knot. At the second end we knit a leash, a hook, and don’t forget about the float and sinkers.
  • Open the connector lock and insert the loop into the hook.
  • We tighten the loop and secure everything with a lock.

Done, you can throw the tackle.

Photo 2. Closed connector.

Other methods of attaching fishing line

In addition to the connector, the fishing line can be tied to the tip, if there is no ring on it, in other ways. Many fishermen have their own favorite method of such fastening.

  1. You can make a fishing line connector. To do this, use a piece of thick fishing line, which is wound tightly around the tip. At the end, a small loop is made, which is additionally secured with wire or epoxy glue.
  2. There is a method using a pass ring. For it we also need fishing line. A small amount of it is wound around the top of the whip, a loop of about 3 cm is made, into which a ceramic ring is inserted.

Photo 3. Attaching the ring with a silicone tube to glue.

Advice! You can simply tie a small pass-through ring on the foot to the whip with a strong nylon thread. To be on the safe side, apply quick-drying glue to the joint.

These options have stood the test of time with many experienced fishermen, but this does not mean that modern connectors will be inferior in quality.

One of the collaterals successful fishing is the reliability of the equipment used. The ability to choose the correct and rational methods of attaching the main cord to the rod relates specifically to these criteria comfortable fishing. You can correctly tie a fishing line to a fishing rod in certain ways, which also depend on the fishing conditions, the type of gear and the size of the trophy planned for the catch. The fisherman’s knowledge of options that allow for quick, reliable and subsequent dismantling with minimal consequences for the equipment helps to save time while fishing and reduce the cost of installations, which are guaranteed complete safety.

Most often, anglers have to decide how to attach a fishing line to a fishing rod without rings. Of course, first of all, this problem relates to fly rods, when assembling which a tying method suitable for the fishing conditions must be used. The presented article will allow anglers to familiarize themselves with the main options for fastening the cord on the fly, specify the materials that will be needed to carry out fastening operations, and give an idea of the processes of technical execution of the manipulations themselves.

The prototype of the swing was once an ordinary stick, which made it possible to deliver bait to a certain fishing zone using a thread attached to the tip of the device. In the modern fishing world, with the advent of innovative materials that have both high strength and the same high flexibility parameters, the fishing rod began to look like a telescopic lightweight structure with a length of 3 to 11 meters. The whip of the tackle is smooth, without the addition of folding elbows with passage rings. The fishing line with the installation is wound onto a reel, where it is stored until the next fishing trip. To assemble this type of gear into working condition, you will need to tie the fishing line to the fly rod, and with changes in fishing conditions, you may need to change the equipment during fishing to a completely different type.

Important! The material used to make a fishing rod varies from fiberglass, which is a heavy version of the tackle, to carbon fiber and carbon fiber blanks, which are a lightweight option.

One of the varieties of swing also includes plug fishing rods, the assembly principle of which is based on connecting the parts of the fishing rod into a glass, and the main core of the cord is attached to the tip of the tackle through a shock-absorbing device called a feeder. The plugs differ from the ordinary swing by their significant length, which can reach values from 9 to 20 meters. The whips are made of carbon fiber and even with such a huge size, the tackle rarely exceeds the weight of 1.5 kg. Tests of both types of fishing rods do not exceed the value of 70 grams, but in terms of their structure, manufacturers try to produce lines of blanks with medium and slow parameters.

What is a connector

It is most convenient to attach the fishing line to the fly rod using a locking device or a connector. Connectors are made of durable plastics or light metal alloys.

Important! Installation of the fishing line to the fly rod is carried out through a self-tightening loop, previously tied by the angler on the cord.

To change the fishing line, you need to loosen the knot and change the cord to a new type of installation. The product consists of two main parts - the hook itself and the movable lock in the form of a cylinder that closes it, which tightly presses the fishing line after the knot is tightened on the hook. This type The fastener does not deform the fishing line and does not subject it to abrasion during fishing.

How to choose the right one

Connectors made of duralumin alloys are considered more reliable elements and are used when catching large and powerful fish, carp, barbel, ide and chub. Plastic varieties of products are only suitable for fishing conditions for small fish, roach, bleak, ruff, gudgeon and small crucian carp. The advantages of connectors are the speed of changing the main lines and the reliability of its fastening. In addition, this device is inexpensive, durable and easy to use, and, apart from glue, does not require additional materials for installation on a fishing rod.

Important! The method of mounting the device on a fishing rod depends on the design of the tip of the tackle.

If the tip has an internal cavity, then the product is purchased with a sleeve for internal installation. If the tip of the rod is solid, purchase a connector with a hollow shank. To accurately select a connector, you will also need to know exactly the outer or inner diameter of the last bend of the form. The easiest way is to measure the rod with a compass and use this tool to select the required accessory option in the store. But it’s safer to take the rod itself to a retail outlet and select a device by directly connecting the parts in a trial. Having chosen the option required for the configuration, the device is glued to the tip of the fishing rod blank with glue and after the joint has dried, the tackle is completely ready for installation of the cord.

How to tie a fishing line to a fishing rod without guides

The connector described above came into use by float fisherman relatively recently, and not every fisherman, even today, prefers this particular method, which allows you to attach a fishing line to a fishing rod without rings. Many experienced fishermen use their own types of fasteners, which are simple, cheap and low in material consumption, but require a lot of labor and time for installation and skill in performing the process from the fisherman.

We will describe the most popular of them in the next chapter of the material, so that there is still an alternative and choice in relation to the connector, and in the field the fisherman can solve the connection problem without having a factory fastener option.

Other methods of attaching fishing line to a fly rod

We attach the fishing line to the fly rod, forming a ring from wire or a paper clip. Next, we attach the antennae emanating from the circumference of the ring to the quivertip of the rod, winding the nylon thread tightly, turn to turn, and subsequently sealing the winding with glue. The fishing line is attached to the ring using a loop-to-loop connection. As a result, we get a strong blind mount. Reinstalling the equipment will require cutting the line at the ring and forming another loop on the cord.

We make another connection to the tip of the tip using cambrics. To form a connection, you will need a cambric that fits tightly around the tip of the form. We cut a 10-centimeter piece of selected material into two equal parts. We pass the first one freely along the fishing line, and tie a cord to the second one and pull it over the tip, moving it 7–10 cm towards the butt of the rod. We wrap the cord in a couple of turns around the free tip of the tackle and close the fastening by pulling the first piece of cambric onto the blank. The connection is ready. To re-equip the fishing rod, you will need to completely repeat the described operation, first cutting off the fishing line and removing the cambrics from the blank to carry out repeated manipulation.

The next method can be carried out in two versions, in one of which a knitted nylon casing will be used, and in the second a hat elastic or model. The casing is threaded onto the quivertip, pre-lubricated with glue, so that a 10 cm piece of rope hangs from the tip of the rod and the connection is allowed to dry. Next, a knot is formed on the free section. The fishing line is tied at the end of the rope by tightening a loop, which is secured with a formed knot. Replacing with a new installation requires cutting the fishing line and making another connection through tightening the loop. When using a model, the elastic band itself is attached to the tip of the tackle with a nylon thread with sizing. And just like with a rope, they form a knot that acts as a stopper for the loops of the mounted fishing lines.

Important! The model acts in two ways, serving both as a connecting element and as a feeder, which gives the fisherman reasons to use more sensitive equipment and thinner line diameters when fishing.

On the rigs themselves, prepared for fishing conditions, loops are knitted in advance and the fishing lines are attached to the model and rope directly during the fishing process.

This note is the second part of the topic - equipment float rod or summer float rod for beginners. The first part is "How to assemble a float fishing rod."

The correct equipment for a float rod depends on the fishing conditions and habits of the fish.

What does it mean to take into account fishing conditions? This is the fishing location and weather conditions: which bank is high and steep or flat and flat; at what distance from the shore; at what depth; near aquatic vegetation; in the thickets themselves; on clean water; presence and speed of current; presence and strength of wind.

What does it mean to take into account the habits of fish? Each breed of fish has its own characteristics: more or less cautious; nature of the bite; fish size; resistance when playing; habitats.

In connection with the above, a float fishing rod can be divided into two main types - a float fishing rod with a blind rig (without rings and a reel) and a float fishing rod with a running rig (with rings and a reel).

Float rod without rings and reel ("blind tackle")

A float rod without a reel is mainly used for catching small fish at shallow depths in reservoirs without a current or in places with a quiet current.

Disadvantages of a float rod without a reel

  • There is no possibility to make long casts.
  • There is no possibility of fishing at great depths.
  • It is not possible to fish from a high steep bank, bridges, or dams.
  • And also, due to the lack of a reel, when catching large fish, difficulties may arise when fishing; for the same reason, it is necessary to use a thicker fishing line and the tackle becomes coarser.

Advantages of a float rod without rings and a reel

  • Since there is no reel and rings, it will be cheaper to assemble a “blind tackle”.
  • You can fish among aquatic vegetation with a fishing rod with a “dead” rig. A rod with a “running” rig cannot boast of this. The line passing through the rings, when fishing among the thickets, often clings to bushes and tall grass, because of this it gets tangled and breaks.
  • "Dead tackle" is most suitable for high-speed fishing. When the fish is found, fed and the distance from the shore allows you to fish with a float rod without a reel, then in this case it becomes slower to work with a rod and reel.
  • With a fishing rod without rings and without a reel, you can quickly change the fishing line with all the equipment (float, sinker, hook) to a pre-prepared one. What did I mean?

Let's say there are several types of fish in the river - perch, roach, bleak. For perch, it is advisable to use a thicker line and a larger hook, and the float and sinker will be heavier. For roach you need a smaller hook, in general, all equipment should be lighter compared to equipment for perch. And for gluing, the thinnest fishing line and small hooks are used.

For different breeds of fish - different equipment. Therefore, I prepared three fishing lines at home equipped with a float, sinker and hook, respectively, for perch, roach and bleak. I wound the equipped fishing line on the reel, and to quickly change the fishing line to the desired one I use a fastener.

To tie the fishing line to the fastener, you can use clinch knot.

In the first part, I recommended two floats - a goose feather float and a spindle float. For a float rod without rings and without a reel, we will choose a goose feather float. It is attached to the fishing line in two places.

In the store it is better to immediately purchase a set of pellets of different weights. We will select by experience. Let's attach the smallest pellet first. To attach a sinker, you need to put the fishing line into the cut of the pellet so that the distance from the sinker to the hook is approximately 5-8 cm, then press the pellet, for example, with pliers.

We are testing. We lower the equipped fishing line into a container of water. We adjust the depth of release of the hook with the float so that the depth of the water container is greater. This is necessary to see how the float “stands” (the float is loaded). If it “stands” and does not sink, it stays on the surface of the water almost vertically, then the weight of the sinker fits the float well.

If the float goes under the water (sinks itself), then the sinker is too heavy. Using pliers you can easily bite off a piece of the pellet. Let's take a bite overweight until the float "stands" normally. If the float “stands” sideways or practically lies on the water, then you need to add weight. We attach another pellet slightly higher than the first, about 2 cm.

It was the most simplest example adjusting the float balance. If one pellet weighing 0.8 g or less was enough to adjust the balance of the float in the water, then this tackle turned out to be light. In principle, you can already go and fish with it. But such light equipment has a drawback - in strong winds it will be difficult to cast the bait.

Let's consider when there are two pellets on the line next to each other or one, but heavier than 1 g, i.e. heavier equipment. When biting, when the fish “chews” the hook with a tasty worm, it will feel the weight of the heavy sinkers, especially at the moment when it wants to lift the bait from the bottom. Because of this, the fish will not finish chewing the worm and will spit out the hook. To prevent this from happening, they provide additional grazing.

The sub-grass is the lightest pellet of all available weights on a rigged fishing line. It is located very first from the hook at a distance of 5-8 cm. And the main load is located even higher, i.e. further from the hook.

Now, when the fish takes the bait, it will only move the small pellet that is closer to the hook. Light weight The fish won’t feel the sinker, but the float will still show a bite. If, of course, the float is properly balanced.

The principle of adjusting the balance of the float with the under-hook is the same as described above. You just need to select the weight of the pad so that it significantly affects the load of the float. For example, without a backup, the float should stick out of the water a little higher. Don’t forget, the weight of the under-shepherd should be small - I recommend up to 0.8 g.

Often the hook and hook are attached to a separate leash. The leash is a continuation of the main fishing line. It is made from fishing line, the cross-section of which is always smaller than the cross-section of the main fishing line. The length of the leash varies. Usually 15-20 cm, but sometimes they are made up to 1 meter long.

What determines the length of the leash? From the habits of the fish. Watch how she pecks. If there are a lot of empty bites, then the length of the leash is reduced. Too long a leash results in late strikes. When there is fish but bites are rare, perhaps it is afraid of the main thick fishing line and large sinkers. In this case, try to increase the length of the leash.

You can also use colored fishing line for the leash - green, brown, yellowish. The use of a painted leash made of thin fishing line makes the tackle less noticeable to the fish, which increases bites. To tie the leash to the main fishing line, you can use the following knot, see the picture below.

A leash can be useful in case of a snag. Since the cross-section of the fishing line for the leash was smaller than the main one, if it breaks, only the leash with the hook will come off, while the main fishing line and float will remain.

We briefly looked at the rig with and without a leash. Which one to choose is up to you. I won’t advise anything specific here, I gave you some food for thought, and then you can do the rest on your own. Select the length of the equipped fishing line approximately equal to length rods, or a little shorter - 15 cm.

Of course, you can make the line longer than the rod, but if you fish from the bank where tall grass grows, then casting the bait will not be convenient, it will cling to the grass.

Technique for casting bait with a float rod

I will describe the safest technique for casting bait, especially for beginners. Pendulum type casting.

1) B right hand take a rod, and in the left one a hook with a nozzle. The fishing rod is held approximately parallel to the water. The tip of the rod is aimed at the place where we are going to put the bait, or slightly to the left.

2) Now release the nozzle and at the same time raise the tip of the rod - move the rod up and slightly forward. When the bait is in front of the end of the rod, it is lowered.

When casting, make sure that the hook with the nozzle does not catch on the grass or anything else.

There is nothing complicated about properly equipping a float rod, and in the previous guide we discussed this issue in some detail.

In this article you will learn how to assemble a float fishing rod, equip it with a reel, float, weights, hook and other components, and then configure the tackle correctly.

Fishing rod rigging diagram (for the fastest)

Diagram of a float rod, according to which you need to sequentially assemble all the elements into a finished tackle together
  1. The main line, for example, is 0.18 for catching small crucian carp.
  2. A float with a ring on the body and a silicone cambric in the lower part (on the keel).
  3. Weights.
  4. Leash 20 cm (a piece of thinner fishing line compared to the main fishing line).
  5. Hook, for example, No. 5 Russian numbering or No. 8 European (for catching small crucian carp about the size of your palm).

Let's move on to detailed instructions step-by-step assembly of a float rod.

1. Preparing the rod

There are 2 options for rigging the rod before attaching the fishing line and other components of the tackle. Decide what kind of fishing rod you have.

Do you have a fishing rod with rings?

If you have a rod with guides, it is called a Bolognese rod (or bolognese). In this case, you will need a coil. If you are a beginner, we recommend equipping your fishing rod with a lightweight plastic drum-type reel.

When actively fishing for small fish, choose a lightweight plastic inertial drum-type reel

The inertia-free action will be superfluous in the Bolognese fishing rod if it is carried out active fishing 5-8 meters from the shore. The task of the reel in this case is only to act as a storage line for the fishing line. And long casts in float fishing with spot feeding are not needed at all. You will need a spinning reel if you use the match fishing method, but this is a professional type fishing, not for beginners.

But at spinning reel there is one undeniable plus, and even the author of the article will definitely take it if the goal of fishing is carp or other large fish that will give serious resistance when fishing. Inertialess women have friction brake, which releases line from the reel when the load is too strong. Thanks to this, when fighting against strong carp, the line will not break, but will slowly be pulled into the water. However, sooner or later the fish will get tired and you will be able to pull it out by evenly tightening the reel handle.

Attach the reel to the Bolognese rod holder. Typically, there is a screw mechanism unscrewed, the reel handle is inserted into the slots, and then the screw is screwed back in. Sometimes, instead of a screw, there is a clip that first opens to allow room for the reel handle to be inserted, and then closes.

We attach the fishing line to the reel. To begin, thread the tip of the fishing line through all the rings, starting with the last small one and gradually passing through the largest ring, which is located near the reel. Now you need to secure the line to the reel with a strong knot or connection.

The photo shows an example of a self-tightening loop for attaching fishing line to a reel

Be careful! If you fasten the fishing line to the reel with a regular knot, it will come undone very quickly, but such a knot will not come out accurately.

You have a fishing rod without rings

Fishing rod for float fishing without rings is called a flywheel. Gear collection proceeds as follows:

Attach a special connector to the end of the fishing rod(a small element that has a winding serif, which is then covered with a cap). The connector serves as a way to attach the main line of the float to the rod. The connector must be secured with superglue. Apply a drop to the tip of the fly rod and then insert the connector, pressing firmly. If the tip of the rod is too thin, then you can even shorten its length a little so that a section of the tip of a suitable diameter fits into the connector.

Make a loop at the end of your main line. Pull some line out of the reel and create a loop, for example. This knot has the property of not stretching and not moving along the fishing line, therefore, under any tension, even when hooking the tackle and strong blows– the knot will not unravel and will not disperse.

Pull back the connector cap and insert the connected loop into it, and then close the cap. The fishing line is securely tied to the fishing rod.

2. Equipping the fishing rod with a float

If you are using a fishing rod without guides– then you need to remember that the length of the fishing line should be equal to the length of the rod, or exceed it by a maximum of half a meter. It is this amount of fishing line that makes it easy to cast and easily pull the equipment or fish out of the water directly into your hand.

How to attach a float with a ring at the top to a fishing line

  • First, thread the line through the ring from the bottom to the top.
  • You put a special rubber casing on the fishing line, which you should have bought in the store (perhaps it was included with the float, and they also often come in sets of lead pellets, which we will also need to equip the float fishing rod).
  • And insert the lower part of the float (keel) into the rubber casing, as shown in the figure at the beginning of the article.

How to attach a float without a ring to a fishing line

There are also floats that do not have a ring. Cambric alone is no longer enough here. You will have to use two (we put both on the fishing line and insert the ends of the float into them - the tip and the lower keel). The tip is often larger in size, so the cambric must be selected according to its diameter.

Try not to get too shallow with the cambrics; when you change the working depth of your equipment (move the float along the line), the cambrics wear out and tear. Therefore, it is important to use elastic bands that are not very narrow.

An alternative version of the equipment for those who do not use cambrics, but prefer stoppers. Very simple and convenient.

3. Correct loading of float equipment

Correct loading of the float (at the very beginning of the tip)

Some people call this a float load, although in fact it is actually called a load. You need to attach lead pellets to the fishing line so that only upper part float (its tip). This type of gear setup allows you to improve sensitivity to bites from small and medium-sized fish.

If you have previously seen large floats with most of the body sticking out of the water, and anglers are trying to catch something on them, this is the wrong approach, unless the angler (or any other fish, in which case the sensitivity of the equipment does not matter at all and it is important that the live bait does not greatly distort the movement of the float with its presence).

Loading at home

At home, you can set the correct float load in a large bottle (from 1.5 to 5 l). Simply add weights, clamping them with pliers (lastly with your teeth) 30 cm from the end of the line and lower the equipment into the water. As soon as you notice that the entire body of the float is submerged under the water, and most of the top remains above the water, then you have completely submerged the float.

How to load a float on a pond

The principle is similar to checking the load at home, but here you can throw directly into the water. Keep the float close to the weights and cast it 2-3 meters from the shore. If the body of the float is still visible above the water, you need to add more weights.

Be sure that the minimum depth is set, or that you are casting to a sufficient depth, the weights should be suspended and not fall to the bottom.

Load the line with lead pellets until only the tip of the float appears above the water, preferably so that the body is completely under water. This will provide the best sensitivity. Although it is acceptable to have a small portion of the body visible above the surface in windy conditions, this will reduce visual deception as the float passes through the waves.

If you loaded too much– use scissors, thin-nose pliers or forceps (teeth last, take care of the enamel) to pinch off a small piece of lead. Be careful not to damage the line.

4. Leash attachment

A leash is an essential component of a float rod. It serves faithfully in the following ways:

  1. When hooking, the thinner line of the leader will break faster and you will be able to save the rig with a float and lead pellets. To restore, you only have to tie a new leash with a hook.
  2. The fish is afraid of a thick fishing line, but it almost doesn’t even notice a thin line and bites the bait much more actively.

We recommend using fluorocarbon lines for tying leashes. Actually, this material was made specifically as a leash. Fluorocarbon is much more expensive than fishing line from, but stores sell reels of 5, 10, 15, 25, 50 m. This will reduce the spending of the fishing budget, and even a 10-meter reel will be enough for almost the entire season, because only 25 mm is spent on one leash fishing line

Leash thickness:

  • If you use monofilament, then 0.05 mm thinner than the main line. For example, you have a main line with a diameter of 0.18 mm, then use a mono line leader of 0.13-0.14 mm.
  • If you use fluorocarbon, then leave the thickness of the leader the same as the main line. Since fluorocarbon is a less durable material than monofilament line, there is no need to reduce the thickness of this segment.

How to tie a leash with fishing line

It’s easiest to use the same one (the knitting pattern for which you could see above in this article), although there are other knots for knitting leashes, nevertheless, the figure eight is quite suitable and the strength of the knot is excellent. Bloody knot is also suitable for these purposes.

The length of the leash after tying and attaching the hook should be around 15-20 cm, so initially take a piece 25-30 cm long.

5. How to properly tie a hook to a fishing line

Now is the time to tie a small hook to the end of our fluorocarbon leader.

Step-by-step instructions for crocheting a simple knot:

  1. Thread the end of the fluorocarbon leader through the eye of the hook from the inside.
  2. Pull the line out 5 cm and form a loop.
  3. Make 5 turns around the hook (if the line is thinner than 0.15 mm, 6-7 turns can be used).
  4. And then thread the end of the fishing line into the loop formed earlier.
  5. Wet the fishing line and tighten the knot tightly (both actions are important, a wet knot cannot burn out during tightening and the fishing line will not be injured, but you need to tighten it tightly because after tightening we will cut off the tip, and further tightening if the fishing line is cut prematurely can unravel the knot).
  6. Cut off the excess end of the fishing line with scissors. But leave at least 1mm from the tip.

What hook size should I choose? The size depends on the size of the fish's mouth. Imagine what kind of catch you are hoping for and buy the appropriate hooks. If the prey is small crucian carp to the palm, then along European numbering hook No. 8 will suit you, or Russian hook No. 5. If you catch bleak, then significantly less. European No. 14, Russian No. 2-3.

Is the color of the hook important? This is more of a myth than any serious hook evaluation parameter. Pay more attention to the strength and sharpness of the hook than to its color. Japanese hooks from Ownergood choice, they are sharp and durable.

Short forend or long? A long fore-end (the fore-end is the part of the hook from the ring to the bend) is well suited for fish with a small mouth (for example, bream, crucian carp, roach). For fish with a large mouth, a short forend is more suitable (for carp, perch).

Checking gear

Check out the gear you have assembled using the example diagram below. Here is an example for catching crucian carp up to 500 g, be it very small crucian carp or large ones, much larger than the palm of your hand. Large specimens will give you problems when fishing, but this tackle will cope with them.

Check the following items:

  • The connector of the fly rod is tightly secured and will not fly out when the rod is shaken (for example, when the rig is caught on algae in the water).
  • The line is tightly secured to the connector (using a figure eight knot ensures a reliable connection).
  • The rubber cambrics of the float should not be too tight and will not be worn out by the fishing line when moving along the line.
  • Lead pellets, when attached to the fishing line with pliers or when cutting them with scissors, should not damage the fishing line. Inspect it and if there is still deformation, it is better to move the weights higher along the line and tie a leash to the place of deformation.
  • The hook must be sharp and strong.

At this point, the equipment of the fishing rod with a reel, float, sinkers, leash and hook is completed, you can start feeding and fishing. Leave comments and questions, I will be happy to answer!
