Lake Teletskoye or Altyn-Kol “Golden Lake” is located in the Altai Republic. The second deepest in Russia, reaches 323 m, inferior to Lake Baikal. It lies in a narrow, deep intermountain basin at an altitude of 436 meters above sea level.

The reservoir is located in the northeastern part of the republic, within a mountain range, in a basin between the ridges. Geographically, it belongs to two administrative districts - Turochaksky and Ulagansky. It is a recreation center for local residents; it is visited by many tourists from other regions and foreign countries. It belongs to the complex object “Golden Mountains of Altai”, which is protected by UNESCO.

Origin and description of Lake Teletskoye

Most scientists are inclined to believe that it appeared as a result of natural processes directly related to the tectonic activity of the earth’s crust. Experts have two versions of the genesis of Stone Bay: a meteorite fall; collapse of a nearby rock. The first is supported by numerous fragments of stones with traces of melting on the surfaces.

The body of water was called Teletsky 4 hundred years ago, named after the Turkic Teles tribes. He owes this to the Russian pioneers. Before that, local residents used to have Golden Lake, Altyn-Kol.

Description

The length of the lake is impressive - 77.8 km with a small (0.6...5.2) width (it is limited by mountain slopes). In the northern part the lake is stretched in the direction west - east, in the southern part - along the meridian. Between them there is a sharp (90°) channel turn.

From north to east, the water surface is bordered by picturesque ridges: Abakansky, Shapshalsky, popular among vacationers Korbu and Iolgo in the southwest. All along there are sheer, steep cliffs. There are very few flat banks. Most have slopes close to vertical, steep, cut by gorges, with picturesque bays. The lake has two bays of significant area - Kamginsky, Kyginsky, in which almost all the fish from the reservoir spawn. There are wide reaches in the southern and northern parts. Lake Teletskoye is divided into two parts: northern and southern. The shores differ in the structure and nature of the bottom, and weather conditions. The climate has a peculiar, unique regime. The weather changes several times a day.

The largest tributary is the Chulyshman River. Around the reservoir there is a whole network of small rivers and lakes, there are more than 300 of them.

These are the sights of Altyn-Kol. Every year thousands of vacationers come here, attracted by the beautiful nature of the mountain slopes and numerous waterfalls. Some are large, some are small, but all deserve attention. The most popular is Korbu. The road to it is paved with wooden boards, which does not violate the integrity of the vegetation. The beauty of these places evokes romance and involuntarily makes you believe in fantastic stories associated with them.

Climate

The climate within Lake Teletskoye is continental. The peculiarity is the difference in climatic characteristics in opposite areas. In the northern part, the temperature is 4 °C...5 °C lower than in the southern part. The latter receives 2 times less precipitation. A rare and dangerous phenomenon is observed here: during the day, the rocks heat up under the sun, and at night, they cool and crack so much that stones break off and fly away at sufficient speed.

The latitudinal part from Cape Azhi to Artybash, characterized by shallow depths and narrowness, is frozen in winter. On the meridional, deep, it appears less frequently - every third year. So transparent that you can see the bottom through it in coastal areas with depths of 5...6 m.

Winds blow in spring and autumn. There is a distinction between the downstream, which has a latitudinal direction and blows from Artybash, and the upstream, from the mouth of Chulyshman along the meridian. The winds are so strong that the waves and surf that arise under their influence lead to the cessation of navigation - it is impossible to disembark people from watercraft onto the shore.

Nature of the Lake Teletskoye basin

The reserve was founded in 1932. There are 370 species of animals and birds protected on the territory. Great importance is given to the plant world.

In the southern part of Lake Teletskoye, the mountain slopes are covered with larch forests. In the east there are pine-birch and fir-cedar forests. On the western shore there is dark coniferous taiga. Fir and cedar predominate, as well as a small amount of deciduous trees. The taiga is dense throughout the entire length of the reservoir, but on the territory of the reserve it is untouched.

There are bear, lynx, wolverine, and wolf. The forest feeds and hides fur-bearing animals. These include the common squirrels and snowshoe hares, and the rare sable and weasel. And near the surface of the water there are traces of otters and minks. The Altai badger is widespread.

On the right bank there is Yailyu, a protected village. It is surrounded by high mountains and there is no land road there. You can get to the place by water. Workers of the reserve and scientists who study the unique flora and fauna of this amazing place live here.

Fish of Lake Teletskoye

There are 14 species. Among them are valuable:

  • taimen;
  • grayling;
  • lenok (boring).

Fishing on Lake Teletskoye

There are rare subspecies characteristic only of the region. This is a handsome taimen. They catch him with a spinning rod. It is extremely difficult to attract a giant from the shore, so it is better to try your luck in trolling, armed with strong gear and buried wobblers. During the feeding period, in spring and autumn, taimen are caught in the tributaries of Lake Teletskoye.

Fishing, especially in summer, also attracts fly fishermen. They come to enjoy the hefty trophies of grayling. The species is distributed throughout the entire reservoir, often staying near river mouths. They are caught using artificial flies and live insects, earthworms.

Valuable prey is lenok (or uskuch). A species of the salmon family, even taimen is inferior in taste to it. Only a professional can catch a lenok with a fishing rod or donka. That's why we miss a special trophy.

Numerous fish – Teletsky whitefish. Locals call it “herring” because of its resemblance to this species. But it belongs to the salmon family. Like taimen, it is caught using a spinning rod. Lures - wobblers and silicone twisters and vibrotails.

Anglers enjoy catching Taurus dace. It is found throughout Lake Teletskoye, but more along the southern shores. It rarely enters rivers flowing from a reservoir, so it is not advisable to look for dace there. It is better to choose light float fishing rods from gear. Due to the characteristics of the coastline, fishing from a boat will be more effective. But it’s not just the float that is popular with local anglers. Dace can also be caught by fly fishing. Excellent result showing dry flies and nymphs. For bait, dace prefers animal bait: worms, maggots. And during the period of mass emergence of insects, it will not refuse them either.

In autumn, pike fishing is active on Lake Teletskoye. In these amazingly beautiful and virgin places it grows to impressive sizes. It is better to catch it, like perch, with a spinning rod and use rotating and silicone baits.

Fishing on Lake Teletskoye in summer

You can only fish on the left bank, since the right bank is occupied by the State Altai Nature Reserve, where it is prohibited. And you also need to know that taimen (up to 50 kg, up to 2 m long) is a representative of the Red Book of Altai and its fishing prohibited. If caught, it should be released immediately.

It is dangerous to go out alone in a boat. Due to the vastness of the reservoir, the unpredictable weather on it (changes from calm to storm in a few minutes), it is better to hire a boat together with a local resident who knows the “intricacies” of the object, the fishing spots on it, and will show you the sights during the trip.

Interesting species to catch:

  • grayling, growing up to 800 g;
  • “giant” (up to 5 kg) lenok;
  • local whitefish, average weight which is usually small relative to other fish species (300 g);
  • 6-kilogram burbot;
  • a lot of pike, among which there are small pike (up to 1 kg) and 10-kg trophies.

The main gear is spinning. Grayling is also caught by fly fishing, using artificial flies as bait, earthworms, live insects. This fish is the most common in Lake Teletskoye, and therefore constitutes the main catch. Float rods are used to catch local dace. Nozzle - maggots, worms.

Fishing is possible only in the northern part, where the village of Artybash is located and most of the bases and infrastructure are concentrated. The southern one is poorly developed by fishermen; savage tourists hunt there more often, for whom a tent is better than any good of civilization.

Winter fishing on Lake Teletskoye

Only the northern part freezes. The south, that is, the deepest water area, is rarely covered with ice. This happens in severe frosts about once every three years.

In November-December, amateurs flock to the coast winter fishing. Some go for pike and perch. These species are everywhere caught from the ice using medium spoons and balancers. The pike goes well on the girders. You don’t need to know any special tricks to catch predators in these places.

But there is also a special category - those who are attracted to burbot fishing. They are caught using baits that imitate fry. They should be silver in color, from 5 cm in size. Burbot responds well to balance beams. The predator will not miss a real fish, so it is better to catch it with live bait. An effective bait is ruff and gudgeon. When choosing a bait, remember that burbot will not look towards a sluggish and stale fish.

The predator is also actively caught using traditional girders. But they need to be installed where this fish has already been caught before. Once hooked, a burbot will not sit quietly and wait to be pulled out of the water. He will resist. The anglers are trying to catch it by the gills while still in the hole; a hook will come in handy.

Spearfishing on Lake Teletskoye

Impossible without special permission from the fisheries inspection. This requirement was established by the Republic Act in 2004.

Corbu

Located on east coast and is equidistant (30 km) from the villages of Artybash and Yogach. The tour lasts up to 4 hours. Up to 30 thousand people visit per year.

Korbu is located at the confluence of the Bol River into Lake Teletskoye. For the latter, it is not the only one: the riverbed is dotted with many waterfalls of different sizes, but Korbu is one of the most significant. The highest (12.5 m), water flowing from it hits a bed of stone blocks and, like a fan, splashes around. It is especially powerful in spring.

Kishte

Located 4 km from Korbu, at the confluence of the river of the same name. It is more “watery” than Corbu, but is inaccessible due to the ban on landing on the shore in its vicinity. Therefore, the object is admired from a boat.

The water, breaking on the base, makes a peculiar sound, thanks to which its second name among the local people is “Caller”. Excursions to the site are combined with a simultaneous visit to Korbu.

Chedor

Among those visited by tourists, the height is approximately 8 m. It is located next to the section of the reservoir with the greatest depth. Visiting the site requires following one of the traditions, according to which you need to bring a stone from the waterfall and add it to the pyramid at the place where the boats are moored. According to legends, such a ritual guarantees the fulfillment of any desire.

Other attractions of Lake Teletskoye

Stone Bay

It is located in the northern part of the reservoir (on the opposite bank from the village of Artybash) and looks like a stone bowl, surrounded along the entire perimeter by forests. Silence reigns here, the place is simply ideal for relaxation and a picnic.

Experts talk about a small (up to 100 years) age of formation, which is confirmed by a pile of stones on the banks that have not yet “packed” and are constantly “moving”; this must be taken into account when visiting the site.

The shores of the bay are made of stones of different sizes, among which there are huge blocks and gravel or crushed stone inclusions weighing up to half a kilogram.

Altai Nature Reserve

The state reserve is located on the right bank. It was formed in 1967 and occupies the mountainous areas of Southern Siberia, located in Altai (Turochaksky, Ulagansky districts). Its area exceeds 881 thousand hectares; it is elongated in shape from southeast to northwest, for 230 km and narrow in width (up to 40 km).

A fifth of the reserve's territory is represented by pebbles, stone screes, and rocks. On its area there are almost 1.2 thousand lakes with a water surface of over 1 hectare and many smaller ones. The largest Altai waterfall, Uchar (official name Bolshoi Chulchinsky), is also present here, which discharges water from a height of 150 m.

The reserve is one of the largest in Russia. You can move around the territory only along a few paths that have been “made” by foresters and scientists. It is possible to drive a car along one road made of crushed stone in the northern part connecting the villages of Yaylyu and Biyk.

The reserve is covered mainly by coniferous forests; More than two hundred endemic plants are found in the territory, existing only here. The region is rich in mosses (500 species), various plants (1500), predators (16) and other representatives of flora and fauna.

How to get to Lake Teletskoye

The road is not so easy. Remember that it is located in a protected area and therefore it is sometimes impossible to get there by direct flight. A trip to Lake Teletskoye is an exciting event in itself. Get there in different ways: by bus, by car, by plane and by boat. It is more convenient to go to the village of Artybash, which is why most of the tourist centers and campsites are concentrated here. In the summer, there is direct delivery to this locality by bus from the cities of Barnaul and Novosibirsk. In the warm season, the transport issue is not so pressing. It's more difficult in winter. But there is a simple way out. You can get to Lake Teletskoye by car. At the same time, traveling through picturesque places with the opportunity to make short stops will cause genuine delight.

Tashtagol road

This route contains two sections. First, they travel from Tashtagol to Turochak, covering 90 km of road, which is operated by the Altai and Kemerovo road services.

Next comes the Turochak – Artybash section with a length of 70 km. The final destination is located on the shore, where tourists can find many bases, estates and other places where they can comfortably stay. The road is paved and more landscaped than the previous section.

  • the wind can blow from four directions at the same time
  • part of the Altai Nature Reserve
  • part of the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage site as part of the complex site “Golden Mountains of Altai”

Features of fishing on Lake Teletskoye

Fishing on the lake is not industrial in nature. Allowed only on the left side of the lake. The right one belongs to the Altai State Nature Reserve. Only a fine bites. They fish for 14 species of fish both from the shore and from a boat.

Burbot– Teletskoye Lake trophy

The locals brag about how much there is of it, but try to catch it! Experienced fishermen said that it is better to catch burbot using gear for bottom fish. Popularly called "donka". It bites through the fishing line, so a metal liner and a massive load won’t hurt. Best time for casting gear - early in the morning and late evening, when the lake predator goes hunting. It is not comfortable in the warmth, but at the end of October and November there is a plentiful bite.

Whitefish- "early bird"

Do you catch “Taurus herring” in June? Aren't you tired of waiting? At this time, the whitefish has a lot of additional food, and there will be no time for him to be distracted by hooks with dough or worms. In the early spring morning, whitefish will be waiting for you on the lake. Grab some small jigs and time them. Did you know that the Telets whitefish is not found in other bodies of water in the world?

Pike– Queen of Taurus fishing

Luring pike out of lake holes, snags and dense vegetation is a matter of honor for a fisherman. With the help of an ultrasonic echo sounder, the relief is explored, but the romance of fishing is also negated. Take the advice of experienced fishermen and follow the surface of the lake. When the wind blows and ripples form on the water, highlight the place where the waves are crashing against each other. Most likely, there is a snag at the bottom where the pike is hiding, so throw the bait there!

Taimen is the head of everything

The average weight of the largest fish in Lake Teletskoye is 1-5 kg. Imagine a foal, trophies of this size are found in the lake. From May to June, taimen spawn. When hungry, it looks for prey, and then the bite begins. Explore where rivers flow into the lake. The taimen “falls” there after the spawning period.

Fish for West Siberian grayling, dace, perch and bream. Do not doubt that you will be able to fully enjoy fishing and the discovery of new areas in the pearl of Altai.

Our fishing on Lake Teletskoye this year because at the beginning of May a friend suggested going to a very picturesque mountain lake in the Altai Mountains. It’s not very far to go, we call the recreation center, reserve seats, and go. The lake is very beautiful, the water is crystal clear and very cold, you can see everything that is at the bottom, and around the lake there is a beautiful forest and a ringing, ear-numbing silence.

In the photo there is a Teletsky whitefish, it is called Altai herring in Altai

This is where we will be catch A special fish, this underwater inhabitant can only be found here, and its name is Taurus herring or Taurus whitefish. Only this is not a herring at all, but a representative of the salmon family. Catching Teletskaya herringseasy task and pleasant, since there is a lot of it in the lake, this is the main type of fish. We hope for a rich catch.

The base is very beautiful and comfortable. It is also very well located, very close to the coast. Apart from us, there are 5-6 people vacationing, also fishermen, but here everyone is on their own, or in twos. No one makes noise, no one disturbs each other. During lunch, there is a calm conversation about fishing, we listen to local legends about giant taimen, about how a huge pike grabs a swimming poultry by the paws and drags it under the water, and many more interesting tales, although perhaps these are not fairy tales at all, in this deep Due to its tectonic origin, the lake can float anything and any size. There are indeed very large pikes, one fisherman grandfather showed us photos of quite large pikes caught over the last 10 years in Teletskoye and told us that in the spring during the feast large pike attack domestic ducks and drag them under water.

We came to Teletskoye and got our gear. Our gear is the most common and easy to use. float rods. Although fishing in the Altai Mountains with nets is prohibited, many locals fish this way, because they can’t catch much with a fishing rod. Still catching whitefish When using a spinning rod, it is best to take a Blue Fox copper spoon; you need to search each biting area with slow movements, but personally I don’t really like this method. We came not so much for a catch, but to relax, that’s why our gear is simple and not much. The place had already been fed a little; hamarids were taken from the complementary food. Since the water in the lake is very clear, you can see that there are fish, small fish scurrying around very shallowly, it’s very interesting to watch, this happens in nature, and even more so in the city you can rarely see it. It was decided to fish on the advice of experienced ones with a mormysh, this is the fish that catches best with it.

I carefully place the jig on the hook so that it goes along the entire body. From the bait reserves there is also a worm and a baby burdock moth; the Taurus whitefish also bites on them, but not with such excitement as on the crustacean. We sat down, threw it as far as possible, and about fifteen meters away from me stood a friend with a fishing rod, who was the initiator of the trip. The bite of the Teletskoye whitefish is very characteristic, strong, sharp, the fish takes off from the depths at great speed, grabs the bait and dives very quickly, while the float abruptly disappears from the surface and does not float up. The Taurus herring resists very strongly, even a small fish drags so much that your fingers begin to go numb. A fish taken out of the water really resembles herring, but has a fleshy fin. Weighing quite small, about 300 grams, it jumps along the shore, its scales glistening. The color of the herring is almost no different from a real herring, but it looks very beautiful, reminiscent of living silver.

In addition to herring, we also caught pike. This voracious beauty is very popular on Lake Teletskoye. Local residents say that their pike meat has a special, unique taste and aroma, and this seems to be true; we have never tried such aromatic fish soup anywhere else. The pikes found here are large, up to 70 cm in length and up to 6 kg in weight. The body of this fish is more contrastingly colored, dark green, with almost white spots and is not as elongated in length as that of its river counterparts. Pike is caught on Teletskoye around the clock; the amount of catch shows that there is a lot of it here, most likely because there are no major competitors, and there are few fishermen.

We also managed to catch the famous Taurus dace, although small, but very tasty. I’m talking about this because there, on the shore, fish soup was cooked from the freshest fish. We had a simply amazing time, and we will repeat our trip to Lake Teletskoye in the near future. In terms of beauty, this place is the best in Altai.

Fishing in summer

Sig Pravdina

Whitefish Pravdina (Teletsk sprat), or sizhok, is one of the smallest representatives of salmon living in Russia. Poorly studied.

It is endemic and found only in Lake Teletskoye and the river. Biya.

Whitefish was first discovered in 1940 and described in 1949 by G. D.

Dulcate. It is extremely rare, but in August the Pravdina whitefish gathers in masses in the upper part of the Biya River, where it lingers for a short time and disappears again.

Obviously, such aggregation occurs before spawning, although exact time not installed. It is also not established where it comes from here, whether it rises from the lower reaches or falls from the lake.

This deep-sea fish possibly lives in the depths of the lake, rising to the surface in the second half of summer, where, like the Telets whitefish, it feeds on almost the entire surface of the lake, mainly in its latitudinal part.

The whitefish Pravdina feeds on zooplakton. The length of the body, covered with silvery scales with a beautiful bluish tint along the back, is up to 15-17 centimeters.

During the period of aggregation and spawning, protection from poachers and a complete ban on fishing during that period are necessary. Included in the Red Book of the Altai Republic.

Burbot

Burbot is the only freshwater representative of cod fish. Burbot prefers cold and clean water.

It feeds on small invertebrates and fish. In Lake Teletskoye the burbot population is quite numerous.

This is a large, deep-sea, bottom-dwelling fish. It can descend to a depth of 100 meters or more.

The size of burbot varies from 0.3 to 1.2 m. Weight can reach 10 kg.

The color of burbot is yellowish-gray speckled, but depending on the environment, the color of water and soil, it can be dark gray speckled. Burbot spawns in January-March.

It is caught well with lines and small spoons. An excellent bait for catching burbot is considered to be a ruff, or sliced fresh fish.

Contrary to the popular belief that burbot fishing in summer is ineffective, on Lake Teletskoye burbot fishing occurs throughout the year, this is due, first of all, to the fact that the water in the lake does not rise above 10 degrees, which has a beneficial effect on the nutrition of the fish .

Burbot is distributed throughout the lake, especially numerous in the southern part of the lake. Ukha made from fresh burbot is considered one of the most delicious, if you do not take into account the broth from sturgeon fish.

Teletsky dace

The Taurus dace is a member of the carp family. Locals mistakenly call it chebak.

An adult dace reaches a body length of up to 23 centimeters, weighing up to 200 grams or more. The body is covered with silvery scales of a darkish color.

The dace has a semi-lower mouth and feeds near the bottom on the larvae of the mosquito mosquito (bloodworm) and other insects, as well as diatoms. During the period of mass emergence of mosquitoes, mayflies, or in cases when insects are washed away from coastal bushes by rain and wind and blown into the water, the dace feeds on them, rising to the upper layers of the water.

Dace is a schooling fish and does not make large movements. As a rule, in the morning dace go out to the nearest rift, and in the evening they descend into holes or into deeper places under the shore.

Sometimes they accumulate on the spawning grounds of other fish and eat the eggs they lay. Dace has no commercial significance.

But catching it with a fishing rod is of some sporting interest. Despite the abundance of dace, catching it is not so easy.

Dace is a fast and agile fish. The dace bite is quite sharp, and you need to hook it sharply, and not sweepingly.

Fishing for dace is quite a gambling activity. The dace in Lake Teletskoye is found mainly in the southern part of the lake and only in short time runs to the source of the Biya River.

Spawning in May, June. The main habitat is Kyga Bay.

For the winter, the dace enters the Chulyshman River, where, clinging to the ground, it spends the winter without feeding.

The road is not so easy. It is worth remembering that it is located in a protected area and therefore it is sometimes impossible to get there by direct flight.

A trip to Lake Teletskoye is an exciting event in itself. There are different ways to get there: by bus, by car, by plane and even by boat.

Teletskoye Lake: Fishing Features

The deep and cold mountain lake serves as a permanent refuge for 14 species of fish, two of which live only here, and they cannot be found in any water pool of our planet. These are Pravdina whitefish and Teletsky whitefish.

From the point of view of local residents, Teletsky whitefish is a type of ordinary herring. In fact, this is a real example of the noble salmon family in miniature - its weight does not exceed 5 kg. On the eve of spawning (October), whitefish eagerly frolic at the warm surface of the water, where they become easy prey for fishermen.

Commercial fish are of particular interest to fishermen:

— pike, among which there are also teenage pike and 10-kilogram trophies;
- perch;
— dace is the most popular type of fish among local residents.

Fishing for Taimen

But Lake Teletskoye became famous thanks to the beautiful taimen, popularly dubbed “mountain”. This is the most valuable and largest representative of the salmon family, reaching one and a half meters in length and weighing up to 80 kg. Taimen spawn in late May and early June in shallow rivers feeding the lake. Active biting begins after spawning and continues until October.

Fishing for taimen with a spinning rod from the shore is not the best best option, therefore, trolling around the lake with reliable gear and a deep-rooted wobbler will allow you to catch especially large specimens. Such fishing strictly follows the strict rule: catch and release, since taimen, as a small species, is listed in the Red Book.

The local fish, uskuch (lenok), reaching 5 kg, is considered a smaller counterpart of taimen. Unlike its famous brother, usk is accessible for fishing. all year round. Spawning begins in the spring - at this time it actively moves around the lake, entering river mouths. Uskuch are caught mainly with a fishing rod or tugs; nets are ideal for small specimens.

Throughout the year, and especially in the summer months, on Lake Teletskoye fly fishermen join spinning enthusiasts to enjoy grayling fishing. This is a very active fish with a stunningly beautiful dorsal fin, reminiscent in color of the tail feathers of a peacock. Individuals of this species grow up to half a meter and gain a weight of 2-3 kg.

This representative of the salmon family is not picky about food: its diet includes bottom-dwelling mollusks, insects, and fish eggs. Based on food preferences, fishermen select baits - flies, grasshoppers, spoons, all kinds of decoys. Grayling spawns from April to May at the mouths of rivers flowing into the lake.

The freshwater messenger of cod fish is the burbot, a numerous deep-sea lover of transparent and cold water, the owner of quite impressive metric data (length up to 1.2 m with a weight of about 10 kg). For three long months, from January to March, burbot spawns, then falls into the lake and fattens. It responds excellently to fishing with nets and small-sized spoons throughout the year.

Among the smallest fish found in Lake Teletskoye are: minnow (of the carp family), mottled and Siberian sculpin (commonly known as broadhead), Siberian char (of the loach family).
