World Military Games 2017 in Sochi: 44 sets of awards will be played in total
The third World Military Games started in Sochi. Our country hosts these competitions for the first time. Athletes from all over the world come to the "military Olympics". About a thousand athletes from 26 countries are expected to compete for the awards. In total, 44 sets of awards will be played in seven sports: biathlon, alpine skiing, ski race, rock climbing, ski mountaineering, orienteering and short track.

Note that the Military World Games are held every four years. There have already been eight of them: six summer and two winter. Russia received the right to host military games at the 70th General Assembly of the International Military Sports Council.
From February 24 to sports facilities Sochi starts the competitive program of the III Winter Military World Games.
From February 22 to February 27, Sochi hosts the III Winter Military World Games. The competitive program starts on February 24, the same day the Military fire relay will take place, as well as the official opening ceremony of the Games.

The name of the sports discipline comes from two Latin words “twice” and “struggle”, therefore biathlon was originally called the modern winter biathlon. Includes cross-country skiing and rifle shooting across multiple shooting ranges.The first race, vaguely reminiscent of biathlon, was organized by the border guards on the Swedish-Norwegian border back in 1767. In the 19th century in Norway, biathlon was formed as a sport for soldiers. The progenitor of modern biathlon, the military patrol competition, was introduced at the Olympic Games in 1924, 1928, 1936 and 1948.
Within the framework of the III Winter Military World Games, competitions will be held in the following types: sprint (7.5 km for women, 10 km for men), mixed relay(6 km for women and 7.5 km for men) and patrol race (15 km for women, 20 km for men).
patrol race – modern look competitions of military patrols (race, which is the ancestor of biathlon). It is a 20 km race for men and 15 km for women, with three firing lines. Each participating country can enter two patrols (male and female).
The team consists of four athletes - biathletes and skiers. One of the team members is the leader of the patrol, three are members of the patrol, each of whom fires from a prone position and fires one shot at the center of his installation. Sprint- a type of biathlon race for 10 km for men and 7.5 km for women with two firing lines. Biathletes start at intervals of 30 seconds. After the first round, shooting from a prone position is performed, after the second - standing. Biathletes themselves choose firing positions on the shooting range for shooting. For each miss, a penalty loop of 150 m is provided.

One representative from each country starts at the same time and, having run their stage, they pass the baton to the next biathlete from their team. Women go first, then men. There are two shootings at each stage: the first one is lying down, the second one is standing. The athlete has three spare cartridges for each shooting. If the biathlete uses up spare cartridges, then for each subsequent miss, a penalty loop of 150 m is provided.
Currently War Games are divided into 4 types:
- CISM Worldwide Summer Games(first - 1995, Rome)
- CISM Worldwide winter Games(first - Italy 2010; second - France 2013; third - Sochi 2017)
- CISM World Cadet Games (first - Ankara 2010; second - Ecuador 2014)
- Military World Cup or CISM World Football Trophy. (first - Ayzerbajan 2013; second - Oman 2017)
The Russian national team will be represented by the CSKA team, which has raised its bar - to beat its own records in winning awards.
Doping testing will be done by an anti-doping laboratory from the city of Cologne (Germany).

The status of the official ambassador of the III Winter Military World Games was received by the two-time Olympic champion, Honored Master of Sports, Major of the Russian Army Elena Isinbayeva.
It was she who received the honorable right to walk with the flag of the Russian Federation in the "Ice Cube" on February 24, 2017 at the festive opening ceremony of the games.
III Winter Military World Games for the first time in history will receive its own fire. At the same time, it will light up in 4 military districts: in the Murmansk, Sakhalin, Chelyabinsk regions and in Kabardino-Balkaria.
All four torches will merge into one at a festive concert in the Kremlin Palace on February 23, 2017, at the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day, and then the Flame will go to the Olympic Sochi.
The FORMULA 1 track will host a torchlight procession of 20 people, including Olympic champions Svetlana Khorkina, Nikolai Zimyatov, Svetlana Ishmuratova and others. Having overcome the route in 2017, the escort of the torchbearers will arrive at the solemn ceremony at the Ice Cube.
The Winter Games will host a thousand athletes, and the guests of the opening ceremony will see the banners of more than twenty states.

Rosa Khutor will host daily concerts, giveaways, performances by famous DJs, autograph sessions with stars, flash mobs with the participation of spectators and animation programs for children. The entertainment program of the Games also includes concerts:

Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army named after A.V. Alexandrova will perform at the opening ceremony of the III Winter Military World Games. The renewed composition of the ensemble performed for the first time with a concert on February 16, 2017. The restoration of the famous ensemble became a matter of honor not only for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, but for the entire state.
The legendary team will take to the stage of the State Kremlin Palace on February 23, 2017, and on February 24, they will perform at the opening ceremony of the III Winter Military World Games.
