Will pairs figure skating in Russia achieve impressive successes for women? Beauty in every movement! Features of pairs figure skating on ice Figure skaters couples in life

Were married from 1995 to 2007

Ilya and Irina got married in 1995 after three years of romance. The skaters have been dating since 1992, when they became a couple. Then Irina was not in the mood for an affair. She already had a bad experience with her first partner Alexei Pospelov, and she concluded that the relationship interfered with sports. However, feelings prevailed, and soon Irina and Ilya began to live together. By the way, after this the couple’s sports career took off - Irina’s fears did not come true. Averbukh and Lobacheva have won Olympic silver and gold at the World and European Championships.

In 2004, the skaters had a son, Martin, but three years later the couple divorced.

Irina admitted that the reason was work. Ilya was seized by a “gold fever”. He wanted to earn more and more, but there was no time left for his family. Lobacheva practically did not see her husband, the relationship turned into a “marriage by telephone.” Divorce became a difficult period in Irina’s life. Due to stress, she suffered a miscarriage.

Oksana Domnina and Roman Kostomarov

Married since 2014

Oksana Domnina and Roman Kostomarov did not compete together in official tournaments. Roman achieved sporting success in tandem with Tatyana Navka, and Oksana won more than one victory in tandem with Maxim Shabalin.

The skaters began dating in 2005, when both were at their peak sports career, but the couple did not want to mix work and personal life.

There were difficult periods in the athletes' relationships. In 2013, the couple, who already had a two-year-old daughter, Anastasia, separated. Domnina fell in love with her partner in the Ice Age show, actor Vladimir Yaglych, and did not hide the office romance. Kostomarov was having a hard time with the breakup and tried to keep Oksana. The skater got a tattoo on his arm “Love - crucifixion” (“Love is a crucifixion”), but this did not save him from breaking up.

However, the romance between Domnina and Yaglych did not last long, and the skater returned to Kostomarov. Oksana and Roman got married and later got married. In 2016, the couple had a second child, son Ilya.

Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov

Married since 2015

Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, Olympic champions in Sochi 2014, began skating together in the 2010/2011 season and announced their retirement at the beginning of 2018. At the same time, Tatyana and Maxim remained a couple, but in a new status - as husband and wife. However, at the beginning of their joint sports path each of them had different relationships. Volosozhar performed in pairs and lived with Stanislav Morozov. When Morozov retired, Volosozhar continued to perform in tandem with Maxim Trankov. Morozov trained his wife and, as it turned out, her future husband.

In 2012, after a successful performance at the World Championships in Nice, the skaters kissed, unexpectedly for the audience and themselves - emotions took their toll. In 2015, the couple got married, and in 2017, Tatyana and Maxim had a daughter, Angelica.

Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland

Together since 2005

Britons Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland are not officially married, but the couple has been together for 13 years, not only on the ice, but also in life. Their relationship began in 2005, when Penny and Nicholas began performing together in the junior ranks. Each partner was only 16 years old at the time. According to Nicholas, love helps them achieve success in sports, which the athletes have confirmed with more than one medal. Coomes and Buckland - multiple champions Great Britain, they have three joint Olympics. On latest Games in Pyeongchang the couple took only 11th place. Two years earlier, Penny suffered a serious knee injury that jeopardized her career. The couple missed the entire previous season, and their participation in the Games was in doubt, but Penny was able to pull herself together, and even this result became a success for the skaters.

Zachary Donohue and Olivia Smart + Adria Diaz and Madison Hubbell

A twisted story with a happy ending

The story of the relationships between figure skaters Zachary Donohue, Olivia Smart, Adria Diaz and Madison Hubbell is like a romantic comedy about how couples swapped partners - and everyone got better.

Donohue competes with Hubbell and lives with Smart, Diaz's on-ice partner. And Diaz is dating Hubbell.

This twisted love story began in 2011, when Zachary Donohue and Madison Hubbell began representing the United States in ice dancing together. The newly made partners began dating almost immediately, and their relationship lasted two and a half years. But romance prevented the skaters from achieving victories, so the couple decided to limit themselves to only a working relationship.

In 2015, at the World Championships, Zachary met Olivia Smart, a British woman competing for Spain. According to Donohue, he and Olivia fell in love at first sight. Soon, Olivia's partner began courting Zachary's ex-partner, and she reciprocated. Although lovers turn into rivals on the ice, this does not interfere with anyone’s relationships - neither sports nor romantic. Now both couples live in Montreal and are family friends.

Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaitsev

Were married from 1975 to 1985

Irina Rodnina is the most successful figure skater in the history of Soviet pair skating. She has three Olympic gold medals, ten victories at the World Championships, eleven at the European Championships, six at the USSR Championships. She won two out of three Olympic gold medals in tandem with Alexander Zaitsev, who became the athlete’s husband in 1975.

Irina began her career in tandem with Alexei Ulanov - they made their debut in 1966. There were rumors about an affair, but there were no feelings between Irina and Alexei. Ulanov was in love with another figure skater, Lyudmila Smirnova, whom he later married. According to rumors, Ulanov wanted to ride together with his beloved, and because of this, communication between Rodnina and Ulanov became strained. They conflicted, quarreled... It’s amazing how in such an environment the couple continued to win and receive applause. Rodnina and Ulanov won the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo, and then tragedy struck... At the World Championships in Calgary, Ulanov dropped Rodnina. The figure skater suffered a concussion.

Rodnina was thinking about leaving big sport, but the coach found her a new partner - Alexander Zaitsev. And already in 1973, Rodnina and Zaitsev beat the Ulanov-Smirnov pair at the European Championships in Cologne, taking first place.

The best dancing couple of Russia at at the moment did not immediately tell the public about her relationship. For a long time, Victoria and Nikita tried not to advertise their personal lives. Moreover, there is a widespread opinion online that Katsalapov’s lover was Elena Ilyina, his former partner, in a duet with whom he achieved highest achievements in his career: gold at the 2014 Games, as well as silver and bronze at the world championships.

However, Nikita has already started the 2014/15 season together with Victoria. The skaters achieved their first success four years later, winning the Ondrej Nepela Memorial in Slovakia, and then winning gold medals at the national championship in Saransk.

Sinitsina and Katsalapov went to the European Championships as favorites, if not for victory, then for sure for medals, but due to an unsuccessful performance in rhythm dance, they failed to enter the top three. In the end, gold was won by the French Gabriella Papadakis and , silver went to another Russian duo and , and third place was taken by Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri from Italy.

At the same time, the skater herself did not rule out that strained personal relationships with her partner could indirectly affect their results, and also stated that performing in a pair with a former lover could be called masochism.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates

The American dance duo have had an unbreakable bond for eight years. Behind them, the skaters have completed two Olympics together, six world championships, many national championships and Grand Prix stages, as well as several medals, including gold.

The skaters met before they became partners on the ice. At the age of 16, Bates invited Chock to his birthday party. Moreover, for Evan it was tantamount to a first date with his future lover. Since then, the couple has been in a close relationship, although during the first years of their career they skated with other skaters in duets.

The need to finally reunite on the ice was emphasized by both athletes, saying that this way they could improve their results and achieve new successes.

“Riding with Evan is much more comfortable. We get along great and understand each other. We can discuss our strengths and weaknesses frankly among ourselves,” Chalk was quoted as saying.

It is interesting that despite long-term relationships since adolescence, athletes are in no hurry to get married, although they are not at all limited in time. At least that's according to Bates, who claims that in addition to figure skating, he manages to enjoy active recreation and traveling to other countries with his beloved.

Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue

Another American dance duo, who, in addition to figure skating, are also connected by their personal lives. More precisely, she tied it up. The story of Madison and Zachary is similar in outline to Tarasova and Morozov.

The couple had been in a relationship for several years and regularly became medalists at national championships and also won medals at various stages Grand Prix The Olympic season was decisive.

Hubbell and Donohue decided to separate just the day before Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The skaters saw the main reason for the break in relations as the fact that they were unable to pay due attention to the sport.

“We had to break up. To achieve high results, you need to work hard and regularly, practicing every element of your program. At some point we realized that being with each other in such an environment every minute was explosive. We asked each other what was more important to us: figure skating or relationships. And we both chose the first,” the skaters admitted.

It is noteworthy that the athletes do not pay any attention to their past romance: both Hubbell and Donohue have couples that do not allow them to think about anything other than figure skating and ice dancing.

Marie-Jade Loriot and Romain Le Gac

And again the case when ice dancing contributes to the creation of a new pair of lovers. This time from France. Until 2014, Marie-Jade and Romain skated together with other partners, but after the skaters began performing together, their lives changed dramatically.

In the first year of skating together, Loriot and Le Gac decided to get married. Such a lightning-fast course of events surprised even the athletes: in interviews they repeatedly admitted that throughout their entire career they denied any possibility of performing in tandem with their lover.

“Indeed, this turned out to be an extremely difficult decision. However, love turned out to be stronger than anything,” said the Canadian woman, who received French citizenship only in December 2017.

Before the World Cup, the duo also competed at the continental championship, but only took a place in the top ten, scoring a total of 172.33 points.

And

Team Canada has one of the largest quotas in ice dancing to compete at the World Championships. The team's final entry included Caitlin Weaver and Andrew Poje, well-known to Russians.

Weaver has been paired with Poje since 2006. At the same time, she changed her US sports citizenship to Canadian. However, they held their first Olympics only in Sochi, failing to qualify for the Games in Vancouver.

In Russia, the duo performed unsuccessfully, finishing in seventh place, but the post-Olympic season for the Canadian couple turned out to be triumphant: victory in two stages of the Grand Prix, in the final, gold at the Canadian Championship, as well as bronze at the world championship. The duo repeated the same thing in the 2015/16 season, this time winning gold at the Grand Prix stage in Russia, but failing to become a world championship medalist.

After this, Weaver and Poje's results sharply deteriorated, and this season they won the pre-season tournament of the Autumn Classics, and also took first place at the Canadian Championships.

However, despite all the failures and frequent injuries, the couple harmonizes well with each other. Weaver and Poje admitted that figure skating takes up too much of their time, which is why the athletes do not have friends. As a result, they share their experiences with each other.

“I'm too busy to look for any new connections and relationships. Kate is a wonderful person, honest, someone with whom I can easily discuss any problems,” Poje said.

Skaters who perform in pairs figure skating or ice dancing often become spouses in real life. This is not surprising, because athletes not only spend a lot of time together, but during performances they must show their feelings so that the judges and spectators believe in them. Sometimes couples break up not only on the ice, but also in life. However, some manage to maintain their feelings throughout their lives.

Lyudmila Pakhomova and Alexander Gorshkov

They were the pride Soviet sports and favorites of millions of fans. In ice dancing, Lyudmila Pakhomova and Alexander Gorshkov had no equal for 6 years. The skaters managed to win every conceivable award, and at the insistence of Lyudmila they went to the registry office only after receiving their first gold medals at the World Championships.

They left big sport at the peak of glory, remaining undefeated, and began to arrange their lives outside ice arenas. They were incredibly happy, raising a little daughter and making plans for the future. However, in 1979, two years after Yulia’s birth, Lyudmila Pakhomova was diagnosed with cancer. The athlete’s struggle for life continued for almost seven years. Alexander was always there, supporting, helping, and did not sleep at night. But they lost this battle, Lyudmila left in 1986.

Lyudmila Belousova and Oleg Protopopov

This couple was called legendary in every sense. They started skating quite late, already in their teens, and received their first gold medals at the USSR Championships when Oleg Protopopov was almost 30 years old, Lyudmila was 27. Having become a couple in 1954, three years later they started their family. And they carried the feelings throughout their lives.

They came up with many complex elements, which were later included in the compulsory program of figure skaters all over the world, won many awards and left the big sport when they began to lose to their rivals.

In 1979, they emigrated from the USSR during the Swiss tour of the Leningrad Ice Ballet, where they both worked. After this, their names were forgotten in their homeland. Only 24 years later they were able to come to Moscow again at the invitation of Vyacheslav Fetisov.

IN last time they took to the ice in 2015, when Oleg Alekseevich was already 83 years old, and Lyudmila Evgenievna was preparing to celebrate her 80th birthday. The couple lived together for 60 years and only death could separate them. In 2017, Lyudmila Belousova died from cancer. Oleg Protopopov is still on the ice. At 86 years old, he performs a dance dedicated to his wife.

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergey Grinkov

This is probably one of the most touching and at the same time tragic love stories on ice. Ekaterina was barely 10 years old, Sergei was 14, when they were forced to be paired up. Results of young skaters in single skating the coaches were not impressed, the children were already being prepared to be classified as unpromising, but they decided to give them a chance to try working in pairs. But even in a duet they were not able to prove themselves right away. Little Katya’s persistence helped, as she always prescribed additional training sessions.

However, over time, this amazing couple conquered the ice, they won many medals at the World and European Championships, and became Olympic champions. But they both considered the happiest day when Sergei confessed his love to his future wife. However, there was no doubt about their mutual feelings: Ekaterina and Sergei simply beamed with happiness.

In 1991, the skaters became husband and wife, and a year later their daughter was born. Sergei dreamed of building a large, spacious house, but in 1995, during training, a heart attack took his life. Catherine was able to go on the ice only a year later, dedicating her first performance to her departed husband. They could live a whole life together, but history, unfortunately, does not know the subjunctive mood.

Irina Moiseeva and Andrey Minenkov

This duet originated in childhood. Irina herself chose Andrei from the proposed candidates, but could not answer the question why him. They almost immediately felt sympathy for each other, which could not but affect their training. Irina Moiseeva and Andrei Minenkov, having once become a couple on the ice, remained a couple for the rest of their lives.

By persistently and persistently training, we were able to achieve highest awards in ice dancing. They were the first students of Tatyana Tarasova, who went with her from beginner skaters to world champions. Together with the coach, they were able to find a unique style and image of the couple. The judges did not immediately accept their skating style, the couple was so unusual both on the ice and in life. They could be offended by each other, not talk for several days, but if the partner needed help, all misunderstandings were immediately forgotten.

Their path in sports was not easy; Irina Moiseeva and Andrei Minenkov were never able to become Olympic champions, but they twice won gold medals at the World Championships. They left the sport in 1983, and in 1984 their daughter was born. When her daughter grew up, Irina went to coaching work, and Andrey graduated from the Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation, defended his dissertation, and later went into business. Irina soon decided to devote herself entirely to her family.

Natalya Bestemyanova and Igor Bobrin are two world-class figures in figure skating. Each of his performances was a sensation, each performance in tandem with Andrei Bukin brought Olympic medals. Everyone believed that Natalya and Andrey not only skate together, but are also life partners. so that their hearts beat in unison.

Plushenko gave his wife a personalized ring for 150 thousand euros, and Navka gave her husband an expensive watch

Usually summer is not too rich in high-profile events. And here's the news: Olympic champion Tatyana NAVKA married the father of her second daughter, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry PESKOV. And we decided to remember how the weddings of the most famous skaters took place.

This was the case in 2009, when Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko married Yana Rudkovskaya. The details of the celebration and its cost were discussed for many weeks. Rings for 150 thousand euros, a tiara for the bride for 1.5 million euros (albeit rented), a dress from Roberto Cavalli and the second, embroidered with semi-precious stones, from an Arab designer Zuhair Murad, a banquet at the Barvikha Hotel & SPA on Rublyovka for a hundred guests and the sale of exclusive photography rights to a glossy magazine. They said the total costs amounted to 1 million euros.

The Olympic champion spent no less on the party pair skating Anton Sikharulidze and the daughter of an oligarch Leonid Lebedev Yana. In 2011, they quietly got married at the Moscow registry office, and went to Barcelona to celebrate, inviting a narrow circle of relatives and friends. The wedding took place in an old estate, the rings were from Cartier, the bride's dress from Vera Wang cost her dad 70 thousand euros, the tables were laden with caviar, premium champagne flowed like a river - in a word, all the attributes of a luxurious life were present. The marriage, however, broke up two years later. But we had a good walk.

Now compare the photographs of those weddings with the celebration of Navka and Peskova. In my female opinion, in previous parties there was much more pathos than fun. But for Tatyana and Dmitry it’s the other way around. Lively faces, sincere emotions, a bride who easily swapped her fashionable but tight shoes for beach flip-flops. And the guests in vests and berets on the second day, which coincided with the celebration of Airborne Forces Day. By the way, the newlyweds asked their friends not to post photos on social networks. But, of course, they couldn’t resist. This means that the holiday was a success and everyone enjoyed it.

Everything is like people

American Johnny Weir he was the first skater to openly admit to being blue (there are his “countrymen” among active athletes, but they don’t show it). And then he got married (or got married?). Johnny constantly confessed his love for Russia, our culture and language. So he chose a husband (wife?) of Russian origin. Marriage to a lawyer Viktor Voronov took place on December 31, 2011. “There will be no more living in sin!” - the skater rejoiced. However, in March last year, the publications were suddenly full of reports of divorce. They were going to divide the property and even the dog. Weir accused his husband of assault - apparently, he had not studied Russian culture that well and did not know about “hitting means he loves.” And Voronov complained about cheating, saying that Johnny sent love SMS to another man. But a month later, Johnny and Victor announced: we talked calmly and realized that we really loved each other. We're together again!

Friendship of peoples

Our skater Denis Petrov, who won with Elena Bechke“silver” at Albertville in 1992, “silver” at two European Championships and “bronze” at the 1989 World Championships, married to a Chinese singles skater Chen Liu. Their wedding took place in Russian traditions, and the children's names are Nikita and Anastasia. True, the family lives in China, where Chen Liu Petrova runs the Figure Skating Academy.

From the registry office to the skating rink

Lyudmila Pakhomova and Alexander Gorshkov

I found myself a partner. Such a handsome boy with big sad eyes,” she once shared Lyudmila Pakhomova with my girlfriend Tatiana Tarasova. It was, of course, about sports, but later Alexander Gorshkov became a partner in life. They got married after their victorious season in 1970, when they were the first Soviet figure skaters to win gold at the European and World Championships in ice dancing. There was a story that Lyudmila herself persistently hinted to Gorshkov that it would be nice to go to the registry office. They lived together for 16 years, despite the fact that Alexander at some point fell in love with another woman. But he was next to Mila, who struggled with a terrible disease, until her death.

Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaitsev

What kind of crowds are these? Meeting astronauts? No, it's 1975, a skaters' wedding. Irina Konstantinovna recalled: “The grandmother fell from the second floor while looking at us.” She fell, thank God, into the crowd, so nothing happened to her. I still have a photograph: the Wedding Palace, me near the main entrance with my veil. I start walking up the stairs and don’t have time to lift my dress. On the second step I stand on my own hem, on the third step I step on it with my other foot and realize that I’m going to fall. Bang...On the wedding cake there is a decoration in the form olympic rings. And they didn’t jinx it: the spouses Rodnina And Zaitsev won gold at the Games in 1976 and 1980.

Irina Moiseeva and Andrey Minenkov

They became a couple when they were still teenagers - she was 12, he was 13. Since then they have not separated either on the ice or in life. They got married after the 1977 World Championships in Tokyo, where they won their second world gold. Irina bought her wedding dress there, in Japan, immediately after the competition. She called Tatyana Tarasova, who was their coach at the time, for help. We spent the whole day, the outfit cost a lot of money, but it suited the bride incredibly. After registering at the registry office, we arrived at the Luzhniki skating rink. It’s not surprising, since he brought them together.

Elena Valova and Oleg Vasiliev

Their tandem on the ice was, perhaps, more successful than in life. Twice European champion, three times world champion, winner of the 1984 Olympics. For the first time in pair skating, they did a triple parallel jump, a reverse jump, and an element was even named in honor of Elena - somersault Gross, officially registered by the ISU. And we were the first of our skaters to become professionals. They got married after winning the Olympics. Their marriage broke up seven years later, in 1992.

Natalya Bestemyanova and Igor Bobrin

Looking at the striking champion couple Bestemyanova - Bukin, the country was sure: they were husband and wife. But Natalya’s companion was a singles skater Igor Bobrin.- I remember we were just starting to live together, we weren’t married yet. And if they quarreled, Igor packed his bag and left the house. I was so angry every time! Because, do you know what he took with him? No, not skates. Hairdryer, comb and toothbrush. I think: Christmas trees, we are quarreling, and you are thinking about whether you will comb your hair in the morning or not. And then she said: Igor, we’re quarreling for some reason, maybe we should get married? She made the offer herself. And when we got married, we stopped quarreling,” Bestemyanova recalled. In 1983, almost all the skaters walked at their wedding in the Prague restaurant. Made suits for newlyweds Vyacheslav Zaitsev. By the way, the main victories for Bestemyanova and Bukin came just after this event.

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergey Grinkov

Katya and Seryozha lived in neighboring houses, went to the same school and studied in the same section. But they found out about each other only when she was 10, he was 14. They got married, having already left amateur sports and won two gold medals at the European Championships, four at the World Championships and one at the World Championships. Olympic Games. Sergei was almost late for the wedding: he had surgery in the USA, complications arose and the flight was delayed. He made it to the registry office, but already there it turned out that he had forgotten his passport at home. The document was stamped later. Their happy fairy tale had a sad ending: in 1995, Sergei’s heart stopped right during training.

Oksana Domnina and Roman Kostomarov

At Roman's first wedding, Oksana was a witness on the bride's side - Yulia Lautova. The newlyweds believed that their relationship passed the test of strength, but the marriage broke up a year later. This is probably why, having met Domnina, Kostomarov was in no hurry to formalize the relationship. They lived together, they had a daughter, Oksana pretended that she didn’t need a stamp in her passport. Her high-profile romance with an actor Vladimir Yaglych, happened on " Ice Age“, many explained this. Like, the woman is tired of waiting. Whether this was PR or an attempt to arouse jealousy on Roman’s part is unknown. Only a few months after the project, Kostomarov and Domnina got married.

And these too

This summer there is just a wedding boom in the world of figure skating! And all this would be good after the Olympics, when the athletes exhaled and relaxed a little. But no, the new Olympic cycle has already begun, and they are impatient.

* Sochi Olympic champion in ice dancing tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Charlie White. His wife is now - Tanith Belbin, silver medalist of Turin 2006.

* Italian dancer, world champion Anna Capellini married her fellow countryman - a greenhouse Ondrej Hotarek.* Romantic wedding in Bermuda brought together a Canadian Megan Duhamel with their couple's coach Bruno Marcotte.

We are waiting, sir!

The relationship will be formalized on August 18 Tatiana Volosozhar And Maxim Trankov. True, apart from the fact that the wedding will take place and take place in Moscow, nothing else is known.

On the wedding day of the most beautiful Russian couple in figure skating, Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, Sportbox.ru remembered their story, as well as other bright duets of the last 20 years, who were together not only on the ice, but also in life.

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov (Olympic champions 1994 and 1988)

One of the most beautiful pairs in figure skating Gordeeva and Grinkov was real couple in life. The skaters began skating together since childhood - Ekaterina was 10, and Sergei was 14. One of their two Olympic victories they won the status of husband and wife - in 1994. The athletes fell in love with each other six or seven years after they became a couple, and got married in 1991. The couple spent only four years in marriage, after which in 1995 Sergei unexpectedly died of a heart attack. Ekaterina is raising their common daughter.

Maria Petrova and Alexey Tikhonov (2000 world champions)

The athletes became a couple when Maria was 21 years old and Alexey was 28. And their romantic relationship did not begin immediately; Petrova and Tikhonov were friends for several years, but then they realized that they should be together. Although at the Olympics (there were two of them in the joint career of Maria and Alexey) they could not climb to the podium, the athletes won the gold at the World Championship. In 2010, the couple had a daughter.

Irina Lobacheva and Ilya Averbukh (silver medalist of the 2002 Games)

The Russian dance duet Lobachev and Averbukh was one of the brightest in the “golden” era of the early 2000s. Competing with no less brilliant Sho-Lin Burn and Viktor Krats, Marina Anisina and Gwendal Peyzera, the Russians were memorable for their programs. The athletes became a couple at the age of 19, and at 22 they were already married. Silver at the 2002 Olympics became highest point their careers, they ended their careers two years later. It was not possible to save the family after leaving big sport, although the couple had a son. In 2007, Lobacheva and Averbukh broke up.

Jamie Sale and David Pelletier (2002 Olympic champions)

Not the most joyful memories are associated with the Canadian duet among the domestic public. Second gold olympic medal Salt Lake City, given to the couple after a terrible scandal, became a real fly in the ointment. After all, initially the only champions were Russians Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze. Sale and Pelletier began dating in 1999 - a year after they became a couple. David proposed to his girlfriend in 2004 at her parents' house. A year later they got married, but separated in 2010. The athletes have a common child.

Xiu Shen and Hongbo Zhao (2010 Olympic champions)

Although many figure skating fans often find the performances of Chinese athletes too strict and restrained, Shen and Zhao clearly stand out from this list. The athletes trained together since childhood, but fell in love only in 2005 - after the bronze in Salt Lake City and before the bronze in Turin 2006. After the Games in Italy, Shen and Zhao got married and began to thoroughly prepare for their last chance - the Olympics in Vancouver. 2010 was a triumphant year for the Chinese; for the first time in 13 Olympics, they took gold from Russian athletes.

Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov (two-time Olympic champions 2014)

https://instagram.com/p/6hUu3tmyye/

The accomplished athletes became a couple in 2010, but fell in love with each other later. Each of them had a relationship: Trankov dated a girl from the age of 16, Tatyana’s couple was her former partner Stanislav Morozov. However, after the triumphant Olympics in Sochi, the athletes still admitted that they love each other and are dating. Confirmation of this was received on August 18 - Tatiana and Maxim got married.
