The final stage of the Biathlon World Cup before the New Year will take place from December 20 to 23 in the Czech Republic of Nove Mesto. There are changes in the Russian national team. In the program of the stage, in comparison with what was in Pokljuka and Hochfilzen - too. Main questions before the stage.

Will there be new faces in the Russian national team?

Yes. Coaching staff The Russian team announced that, in accordance with the previously stated principle of rotation, changes had occurred in the composition of the national team.

Alexey Slepov and Eduard Latypov went from the men's team to the IBU Cup, and Anton Babikov and Alexander Povarnitsyn were called up from the reserve team instead. Slepov failed all the races in which he participated, and Latypov looked relatively good in his stage of the relay. But at five personal races he has zero points.

There is one change in the women's team - instead of Ulyana Kaisheva, Anastasia Morozova has been called up to the main team. Kaisheva was not ready for the start of the season at all; her inclusion in the team was a coaching decision. Morozova is performing well in the IBU Cup.

What's new in the stage program?

For the first time this season, races will be held from a general start. As you know, athletes from the top 25 get into them overall standings plus the five best based on the results of the previous races of the stage. In this case, it is a classic sprint-pursuit combination. Alexander Loginov will probably run in the men's race, and Matvey Eliseev also has good chances. Irina Starykh will definitely start in the women's race, almost certainly Evgenia Pavlova and Ekaterina Yurlova, and with a high probability Valeria Vasnetsova. Unless, of course, the health of any of the athletes fails.

Will Starykh reach the medal?

The leader of our women's team, Irina Starykh, was incredibly stable in Pokljuka and Hochfilzen. If he continues to perform like this, he will rise even higher from sixth place in the overall standings. By and large, all she needs is a prize place for the result to be not just good, but very good. During her career, she has two podiums at the World Cup stages, but that was five years ago - in Hochfilzen and Annecy.

How will newbies get on?

It will be interesting to see how the athletes called up to the main team will look at the World Cup. Morozova and Babikov are the overall leaders of the IBU Cup. Anton could have returned to the World Cup at the Austrian stage, but a strange thing happened with his non-participation in the relay. Who is right and who is wrong here will eventually become clear. In the meantime, Babikov has an excellent chance to secure a place in the team for the January stages. The same can be said about Alexander Povarnitsyn. Anastasia Morozova makes her debut in the World Cup.

Martin or Johannes?

In Hochfilzen, Martin Fourcade returned to his usual results. In the sprint - silver, in the pursuit - gold. He did not run the relay in Austria. But in the Czech Republic he will run all three races and try to catch up and overtake the current leading Norwegian, Johannes Boe, in the overall standings. However, the younger Be also did not run the relay in Hochfilzen and will defend his leadership in Nove Mesto. So far his superiority is more than solid - 57 points, and excellent chances to meet New Year leader.

Kaisa or Dorothea?

Among the women, the fiercest battle for first place in the overall standings was between Dorothea Wierer and Kaisa Mäkäräinen. The Finn is only seven points behind the Italian. And if both continue to run and shoot the same way as in previous races, they will break away even further from their pursuers. And if they don’t continue, then Anastasia Kuzmina, Paulina Fialkova, Monika Hoinisch, and others are ready to intervene in the fight.

Where to watch the races?

Absolutely everyone seems to know the answer to this question. With Russian commentary of the race in live You can watch it on the Match and Eurosport channels, with commentary in other languages, there are many channels on the Internet. The only question is a precise schedule and habit.

Two stages of the Biathlon World Cup have already passed in the new season 2018/2019. The first stage took place in the Slovak city of Pokljuka, and the second stage took place in Hochfilzen (Austria).

Now all fans are looking forward to the continuation of the competition, which should take place as part of the third stage of the 2018/2019 Biathlon World Cup.

On the evening of Thursday, December 20, the third stage of the Biathlon World Cup of the 2018/2019 season starts in the Czech city of Nove Mesto. The Russian team suffered minor changes before the new stage - the men's half of the team was strengthened by Anton Babikov and Alexander Povarnitsyn, and Alexandra Morozova joined the girls instead of Ulyana Kaisheva. We'll see very soon whether this will help our team win new medals.

Fans are waiting with bated breath for new impressions and the third stage and really hope that the country’s treasury will be replenished with new awards. The last races of the second stage, in Hochfilzen, were not easy for the Russians - we came fourth in the women's relay and fifth in the men's. At the same time, the team’s performance in the first two stages of the Cup cannot be called unsuccessful - several of our athletes are in the top ten, not losing their positions to strong competitors from other countries.

Composition of the Russian national team for the 3rd stage of the Biathlon World Cup 2018/2019

Composition of the Russian national team for the III stage of the Biathlon World Cup
December 20 - 23, 2018, Nove Mesto (Czech Republic)

Men: Alexander Loginov, Matvey Eliseev, Evgeny Garanichev, Dmitry Malyshko, Alexander Povarnitsyn, Anton Babikov.

Women: Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht, Irina Starykh, Evgenia Pavlova, Margarita Vasilyeva, Valeria Vasnetsova, Anastasia Morozova.

It is planned that Eduard Latypov, Alexey Slepov and Ulyana Kaisheva will take part in the third stage of the IBU Cup in Obertilliach, Austria.

The World Cup stage in Nove Mesto will take place from December 20th to 23rd. The stage program includes sprints, pursuit races and mass starts.

The Russian team, as mentioned above, was replenished with new faces at the stage in the Czech Republic. Anton Babikov arrived with IBU Cup- on the Internet they jokingly say that the athlete was forgiven for his failure in Kontiolahti, where he could not show decent results during the selection for the national team for the first stages. Slepov, in whose place Babikov was actually called, to the great regret of the public, was unable to show decent results at the cup. As for the debutant, Eduard Latypov, he helped the team well in the relay races, but did not earn a single point in the individual events. He has also been removed from the team for now.

As for the female half of the national team, instead of Kaisheva, who, to put it mildly, has become a disappointment for coaches and fans, Alexandra Morozov arrives on the team - for her this will be her debut at the Cup, and therefore, perhaps, the athlete will be able to give a head start to strong competitors.

Biathlon Nove Mesto - forecasts for the third stage of the Biathlon World Cup

The main fight for medals in the Czech Republic will be between eternal competitors - the Frenchman Martin Fourcade and the Norwegian Johannes Boe. Babikov is able to enter the fight for awards, as well as Loginov, who fell heavily, but earned awards at the first stage of the Cup, and at the second he stood firmly on his feet, but was not so active in the fight.

As for women, the winners of the majority of awards will be, as has already become the custom, the Italian Dorothea Wierer and the Finnish Kaisa Mäkäräinen. The German Laura Dahlmeier will also actively join them - no one expected, but she is included in the national team for the stage in the Czech Republic.

Experts believe that Irina Starykh is already capable of reaching a medal among the Russians - she is in the top ten leaders and is showing fairly confident progress this season.

Let us note that at the stage in the Czech Republic for the first time there will be a mass start for men and women - those athletes who were in the first 25 lines of the overall standings at the previous competitions of the stage are included in the race. Also participating are five best athletes based on the results of the last stage of the Cup. No, unfortunately, none of ours automatically participates in the mass start - except perhaps Loginov, who so far stands apart as fourth overall standings. At the same time, everyone has a chance to get to the competitions through sprint and pursuit domestic athletes- you just have to, as they say, want it badly.

The Biathlon World Cup 2018/2019 season starts on December 2, 2018 with a stage in Pokljuka, Slovenia, and ends on March 24, 2019 in Holmenkollen, Norway. Two WC stages will be held in North America
