Three in one - Bolivia, Peru, and Chile! Photo report
It's hard to say how long it all took us. For two and a half months in Bolivia and Peru and in Chile we entered and left six times, in different places, when we were traveling up to Argentina.

Bolivia, by the way, is a very cheap country and although it is not so safe there, its attractions are worth it. Let's start with her.

It cannot be said that we are exclusively thrill-seekers, and when Shurik ( pofig37 ) suggested that I climb to 4700m and descend on a bicycle (and I haven’t ridden a bicycle since I was 13), 64 kilometers along the “Road of Death”, I first told him... Well, I didn’t agree with him. But then it broke. I just knew that if I didn’t improve, I would regret it later.

Some partitions. Just a narrow and winding road with no punctuation marks. The road is not for tourists, it is open to anyone. There are still cars driving up and down it, marked with crosses in memory of the dead.

There are waterfalls on the right and a cliff on the left. It's a long fall. More about this day in our hiking LiveJournal.

La Paz
I liked this capital. Found us here New Year and we went to the most expensive hotel in the city, on the top floor of which we were served a luxurious dinner. $12
Here are dried llama embryos. We found them at the Witches Market. More about La Paz in our travel LJ.

Hell for a clastrophobic. In the highest city in the world - the Silver Mines, where we experimented with dynamite and almost suffocated from the dust. Middle age There are 30 miners here, and still young people do everything to get into the miners' cooperative. More about Mines in our travel LJ.

Shurik holds dynamite with a lit fuse in his hands

All the following photographs, until the end of the segment about Bolivia, were taken during three days for which we paid $70 (all inclusive). We left Uyuni

Hotel made of salt. We spent the night in this one.

Among the sea of salt there is a small island with huge cacti.

Dali Valley, and in the distance the volcano is smoking

You can't photograph geysers, just like you can't photograph the wind. And the field plowed by them is seething and burning at five in the morning.

Peru
Cuzco, where you enter the famous Inca Road, is a colorful town full of beggars. To be honest, I really liked it here, so I have no complaints. :)
More about Kuzco in our travel LJ.

Christmas in Cuzco

Lake Titicaca
Terrible tourist place. We were taken around the island and even moved to the famous reed islands.

Guess where the straw boat is a souvenir, and where is the real one

Coca Canyon
A kid sells knitted “finger puppets” to tourists waiting for the flight of the Andean Condors
There are plenty of such small sellers in Peru. We were once walking through Cusco and we were accosted by two girls who at first tried to sell dolls, but then gave up. but they continued to beg for money. "Why do you need it?" I didn’t ask out of malice, I was interested in what they would answer. "On to food!" Well, how can you not give your child food? It’s that simple, show me a coin and it’s gone, the whole city will have to be fed. But if I have food in my bag, I will always give it to you, even if they don’t ask, but here in my bag I only found icicle candies. I gave them away, and the little one first said to me in Spanish: “This is not food!” and then in clear English: “This is bad for your teeth!!”

Nazka Lines
Giant paintings in the Desert made by the Nazca people. You can only see this from the window of an airplane that tilts almost 90% so that you can see better. 30 minutes $30. (All pictures)

Huacachina
The town is an oasis. Just like in the movies.
It’s an indescribable feeling to ride along the dunes in such an egg-shaped cage and on a sandboard (it’s like a snowboard, only much softer)!

Travel program

main impressions

Lima - Paracas

Fly to Lima, the capital of Peru, where all routes around this country invariably begin.

And although the architecture of the capital is unlikely to impress a sophisticated traveler, there are still places to go: for example, to a gorgeous evening fountain show, to the gold museum or the museum of Inca antiquities.

Then head to the town of Paracas. Here we will book for you a boat excursion to the Bayestas Islands, where there are colonies of sea lions and numerous birds.

Then transfer to a minibus for another tour of Paracas National Park. The yellow sand cliffs and red beaches here contrast unrealistically with the green water of the Pacific Ocean.

Swim in a quiet ocean bay , and then leave for your next destination - Nazca.

Nazca - Cusco

In the morning, a driver will pick you up and take you to the airport, where you can board a small airplane (don’t forget to take an anti-sickness pill!) and take off over the mysterious Nazca lines.

But that's not all there is to Nazca! Have lunch and board the buggy, a desert all-terrain vehicle. You will be shown ancient aqueducts, a pre-Inca pyramid and, finally, tall sand dunes from which you can go down on a sandboard! This is truly one of the most vivid and emotional adventures of the entire trip. In a cheerful company, emotions simply go off scale.

Stroll through the ancient streets of this quaint city, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main feature of Cusco is its architecture: Spanish colonial buildings are built on the foundations of ancient Inca temples. Yes, and it’s literally breathtaking here: the city is located at an altitude of 3400 meters!

Sacred Valley of the Incas - Machu Picchu - Cusco

Hop on a minibus and travel to Ollantaytambo, an ancient Incan settlement located in the Sacred Valley. Climb to the top of this ancient fortress and be amazed strange shapes and the fantastic fit of the huge stones from which it is composed.

Then jump on the train and head to Machu Picchu. Meet the dawn next day already at its top - maybe in an embrace with funny llamas.

But that mountain behind the ruins is called Wayna Picchu. And if you are already overcome by such a passion for knowledge, then it would be a sin not to get there, although this is a sweaty and sometimes difficult task.

Cusco - Puno

Well, we've had enough of the Inca ruins. Let's go to the shores of Lake Titicaca! Along the way, you will visit the oldest colonial church in Peru - Andahuayliluas. The frescoes on the walls of this church evoke very mixed reactions (usually smiles) even from the most experienced tourists, including me. But it’s strictly forbidden to take pictures of them – which is a shame!

Also stop by the temple of the god Viracocha near Raqchi, and take a selfie on one of the highest passes in Peru.

Say goodbye to Peru - you've already seen the most famous things here - and head to La Paz - the actual capital of Bolivia. For some reason, this absolutely crazy city leaves something in your memory that makes your lips curl into a smile. Go to the witches market, where they sell the most unimaginable things like dried llama fetuses, buy colorful knitted scarves and hats at ridiculous prices.

Death Road

Well, who hasn't heard about this exciting adventure yet? Visiting Bolivia and not riding a bike down the Road of Death from an altitude of 4,700 to 1,200 meters above sea level is like flying to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower. A fitting end to a wonderful journey!

jeep safari in the deserts of Uyuni

Some people think that one day is enough to visit the largest salt marsh in the world. And this is true: in one very eventful day you will see a cemetery of old steam locomotives, a psychedelic island with 9-meter tall cacti in the middle of the white desert, and the salt marsh itself with mosaic patterns of rock-hard salt crystals. But beyond the salt flats, Bolivia hides many, many unreal, surreal landscapes.

Altiplano

The safari continues: the heroes of today are the semi-active Oyagu volcano, surrounded by lava fields of completely unimaginable shapes, and black and white lakes with colonies of flamingos.

After lunch - Salvador Dali's desert, in which there is a stone tree (hurry, it is destroyed every year!); several more lakes with flamingos and Laguna Colorada - a large lake that changes its color depending on the time of year from brick red to yellow-gray.

Altiplano

In the morning you will visit the Sol de Mañana geyser, the most high point route - almost 5000 meters above sea level. The feeling of being on Mars. Here, no one yet prohibits walking between the floating fumaroles, looking into their dark depths.

And then - crossing the border into Chile!

Santiago and Valparaiso

Back to civilization! Walk along the modern streets of the capital of Chile, stop by the fish market to eat eel or crab. Take a trip to the port city of Valparaiso - one of the favorite places of the poet Pablo Neruda, a city of cable cars and artistic graffiti on the walls of cute houses.

Travel concept

The trip to Chile is the largest project I have ever undertaken. When developing the route, I set myself the task of making the already expensive tour as economical as possible, but at the same time covering the maximum possible. During the trip we will visit the main locations of the country: Santiago, Valparaiso, Atacama Desert and Patagonia. And the highlight of the trip will be the most remote island in the world - Easter Island! This means that we are practically the entire country from north to south and from west to east! This will be a grand journey that will be remembered for a lifetime!

Meeting at the airport. Check-in at the hotel and, depending on the flight arrival schedule, dinner in a traditional cafe.

We leave our suitcases in Puerto Natales and in the morning we go to one of the most beautiful places in the world - Torres del Paine National Park - the goal of our trip to Patagonia. Inspection of the three famous towers - the symbol of the park. Free time for walks.

The next day we go back to Torres del Paine to visit the Gray Glacier and sail right up to it by ship! Then we will continue our walk through the reserve.

Transfer to Punta Arenas. Walk through one of the southernmost cities in the world and see all the most interesting things in the center. Then an optional excursion to a penguin colony where they live in their natural habitat.

Free time to explore those sights that we did not have time to see during our first stay in the city. In the evening, flight home according to the flight schedule.

Important points

During author's trips, we always plan the time as convenient for us. I never rush anyone or put them under time limits when people don’t have time to take photos or enjoy this or that city. We decide together how much time to spend on a particular attraction. The purpose of my trips is to create a friendly atmosphere within the team. Anyone who wants can always go for a walk separately, but in most cases we relax together as a group, walk, eat - it will never be boring, even if you are traveling alone! On every trip, I make a selection of the cheapest, but rated cafes with good reviews, in order to minimize food costs, but still try the most delicious dishes. During the trip, I focus not on historical information, but on how the country functions from the inside: we learn to use public transport, communicate with residents, learn the language and learn the traditions of the state. The program includes interactive game by commands, during which the trip participants will learn interesting facts about the country and its culture. For general convenience, the group has a shared taxi budget, which we use when necessary to save time or facilitate transfers.

NB! Dates of stay in cities may change, plus or minus, if flight prices vary greatly.
