One of my friends had a GRFISH reel, unfortunately I don’t remember the model. He fished for five seasons, going fishing quite often, and this year he accidentally broke the line handler. At the time of writing this article, this is the best I could find on AliExpress among budget reels. Excellent quality for the price. I didn’t find any cons in the coil itself. Metal reel handle. The set includes a second metal spool and a pouch made of thick, pleasant-to-touch fabric. One spool is deep, the other is shallower, in order to use the smallest diameter line without backing. The reel moves easily and smoothly. The backlash is minimal.
The only unpleasant moment is the lack of accuracy in the description of the product. The title says "Trulinoya 2000" and the reel spool says "Tsurinoya F2000". Other sellers have very similar models, but with the name “Tsurinoya DW2000”. Perhaps this is the same coil, but with slight differences and modifications. The seller also indicated the wrong weight of the reel, in the description it was 230 g, but after weighing it turned out to be about 247 g.
In principle, the inaccuracies in the description turned out to be unimportant to me. I bought a reel for spinning rods with a test for baits up to 10, 15 and 21 grams. The Tsurinoya F2000 reel was a good balance for my spinning rods with a length of 1.82 to 2.40 m. In general, an excellent inertia-free reel for light fishing. I repeat, for this price in the 2000th size I have not seen anything better.
The price is higher than the previous one. On the product page it is presented in several sizes - FS800, FS1000, FS2000. A friend has a Tsurinoya FS2000, he’s been using it for two seasons now, it works great, no complaints, the quality is excellent. The FS1000 series is designed for ultralight fishing. The smallest series - FS800 - is used for jig fishing (fishing with an ultralight spinning rod using jigs), although the Tsurinoya FS1000 is also well suited for these purposes.
Piscifun Venom spinning reel
On the sales page, the Piscifun Venom spinning reel is presented in several sizes - from 1000 to 5000 series. I ordered the Piscifun Venom 3000, and overall I liked the reel. The handle and spools are metal, the movement is light and smooth, the backlash is minimal. It fit well on my 2.40 m long spinning rod. I also purchased the spinning rod on AliExpress - SHIMANO ALIVIO DX 240 with a test for baits of 3-15 grams. I don’t know if it’s original or not, but I tested the spinning rod on several fishing trips and I’m happy with the purchase.
From the seller you can choose a spinning rod of different lengths and according to the test. Choose a rod based on your fishing conditions. My spinning rod with a 3-15 g test works best with lures from 6 to 12 grams. If you plan to use baits up to 5-6 grams, it is better to look for another spinning rod designed for ultralight fishing. If you plan to use baits weighing about 13 grams or a little more, then take a spinning rod with a dough of 7-21 g.
Let's continue about the Piscifun Venom spinning reel. At first glance, winding the line on the spool (specifically on my reel) turned out to be far from ideal. However, during fishing the loops did not drop. Among my budget reels in size 3000, it became the best option. With this reel, baits fly further than with other models in the same series. Most likely due to the fact that on the Piscifun Venom 3000 the spool diameter is slightly larger, although the line capacity is the same. The reel is available for sale both with and without a spare spool. A spare metal spool, shallower than the one that comes on the reel, is also sold separately.
Actually, this is where my top 3 best budget reels end. If the above reels seem to you not at all budget-friendly, then I will give a link to another cheaper model, but it is worse in quality and design, although you can use it.
In terms of the number of bearings, the SeaKnight COMMANDER reel is close to the above models, but its mechanism is less reliable, so the cost is lower. In my opinion, it’s better to add money and buy Trulinoya 2000 (Tsurinoya F2000) or Piscifun Venom if you need a reel of a different series. I'm not saying that SeaKnight COMMANDER is completely bad. If it is not possible to purchase higher coils, you can take this as an option.
For spinning rods, the 2000 and 3000 series models are best suited. Other series are most suitable for donk/feeder, since the weight of a reel of the 4000 series and above is quite large. As the owner of a SeaKnight COMMANDER 4000, I can add the following. There is some play in the reel, but within normal limits. The movement is quite easy, although compared to the reels above, it spins a little tighter.
The main advantages of the SeaKnight COMMANDER reel include: price; the presence of bearings in important components of the mechanism; rotor on two bearings; instant brake, like more expensive models, includes an explosion diagram; There is a spare spool (plastic).
For the price I bought the SeaKnight COMMANDER 4000 I couldn’t find reels with similar characteristics. Therefore, I considered that in this price segment it is best option. Other reels for the same price (or cheaper) have a rotor on one bearing, no instantaneous brake, and the characteristics indicated in the product description differ significantly from the real ones. Perhaps in the future there will be decent models at this price, or maybe there already are, but I haven’t found them yet.
I don’t see any point in “advertising” the cheapest spinning reels. I ordered several pieces, but didn’t like them at all. I came across models with only one bearing. Instead of bearings there were plastic bushings, then I replaced them with bearings. I bought a couple of terrible reels, in which there is no bearing at all for the line roller. The line roller on a spinning reel should rotate well. It won’t rotate - the fishing line will “cut” it, and this will happen quickly, in just a few fishing trips.
During operation, you need to periodically check how the line roller rotates. Clean it from dirt and lubricate it in a timely manner. If you have already purchased a cheap reel in which the line roller rotates “tightly,” disassemble this unit and see what’s wrong with it. If you find a bushing instead of a bearing, feel free to replace it with a bearing (or bearings, if you can install several). If this unit has neither bushings nor bearings, alas, you got the worst reel.
In such a situation, you can try treat rubbing surfaces with goi paste to a mirror shine(the inner surface of the line roller and the surface of the “axis” on which the roller is placed). Then lubricate with oil, preferably special for coils. Do not lubricate the line roller roller with thick grease under any circumstances, this will lead to tight rotation and jamming of the roller.
The rollers may have one or more bearings. On budget reels you often come across combinations - one bearing and one bushing made of a special material. This is normal; as a rule, such rollers rotate well. But, as mentioned above, you should not forget to periodically check the rotation of the roller and, if any malfunctions are detected, correct them in a timely manner.
Yes, it happens that you look and then on the video you see a worn groove from the fishing line. Or even worse - the roller is already jammed and worn through. At such moments, the reeling of the fishing line becomes noticeably tighter, and the fishing line begins to tear. Only replacing the roller with a new one will help here. But the question is, where can I get it? Unfortunately, the situation with spare parts for reels is very bad. I found some sizes of rollers on AliExpress, but they are not suitable for all models.
