This summer, on August 26, the first drone-race festival in Russia - MOSCOW DRONE FESTIVAL - will take place in Moscow on the territory of the Luzhniki Olympic complex. The event, designed to unite both amateurs and professionals of drone racing, will be held under the auspices of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Society " Labor reserves» with the support of the ROSTEC State Corporation and the Moscow Department of Sports and Tourism. Drone racing is a young and high-tech sport, officially recognized in Russia sports discipline at the end of 2017 - today it unites tens of thousands of pilots and 75 million fans around the world. Among the largest international events in this sporting area, such events as Paris Drone Festival, Drone Prix Munich, World Drone Prix Dubai, and Drone Prix Madrid have gained worldwide fame.

Moscow Drone Festival is the central event in Russia dedicated to the development of drone racing, which has no analogues in size and status. Thanks to widespread coverage and federal support, this event will mark the beginning of the development of mass drone racing in Russia and will contribute to the involvement of new audiences in this innovative sport. The first Drone-race festival in Russia, Moscow Drone Festival, will combine three key elements of the program: a qualification competition among amateurs in the drone racing discipline, a fan program for fans and guests of the festival, and a race of the world's strongest professionals - Russian and foreign racers. The event will start at 10:00 and last until 23:00. The strongest pilots from Russia, Great Britain, Germany, France, USA, will take part in it. South Korea and other countries. Eight prizes will be awarded in the finals. The total prize fund of the race will be 2,500,000 rubles.

At the festival, there will be something to do not only for competition participants and pilots, but also for festival guests: everyone will be able to learn how to model and assemble drones, pilot them and perform various aerial stunts. For this purpose, special drone simulators and virtual simulators will be installed on the festival grounds. And on a special training track, the youngest guests of the festival, including children with disabilities, will be able to learn how to fly drones. A special partner of the event, the charitable rehabilitation project “Dream Skis,” will raise funds during the festival for the development of new sports areas for children with disabilities, one of which promises to be drone racing.

“Drone racing is essentially an analogue of Formula 1: there is a competition between both designers and pilots. The tracks are unique: they can be placed in the air, on the ground, under water... The image from the drone is broadcast through the glasses virtual reality, accordingly, the pilot sees everything from a first-person perspective. For maximum engagement, viewers are also allowed to wear VR glasses to feel like pilots. In collaboration with Drone Sports Global, in the fall we will open a school in the center of Moscow, where anyone can take a one-week or two-week course, during which they will learn how to model, assemble and pilot drones,” said Ilya Galaev, president of the Labor Reserves society.
