How to choose a good braided cord
Choosing a braided cord on your own is not an easy and very specific matter. To avoid making an annoying mistake, we recommend paying attention to the following aspects:
- Fishing place. The fundamental criterion on which both the parameters of the cord and the choice of accompanying equipment depend. When fishing with a spinning rod, you should take into account the fact that the fish really likes to live near snags or dense thickets of grass, where the likelihood of getting caught is very high. The nominal strength of the braid is 15-20 librs.
- Cord strength. Parameter measured in librs. Converted to kilograms (without specification) by dividing in half. Shows the maximum perceived load that the braid can withstand. It is often overestimated by manufacturers, so if you are preparing for serious fishing, it makes sense to select a thread that is more durable.
- Number of woven threads. An indicator that can be quite difficult to establish immediately (it is rarely explicitly marked). One thing to remember: the more fibers (from two to sixteen or more woven threads), the stronger the braided cord.
- Cord section. A relative parameter in which main role plays a role in the number of fibers forming the cord. Again: the more threads in the weave, the more rounded the cord becomes. Abbreviations, numbers and abbreviations on a “braided line” can confuse any fisherman, and it’s good if the numbers are duplicated in a familiar numbering. But this does not always happen. So we’ll try to answer, if not all, then at least the basic questions, the answers to which will help make the choice of braided fishing line easier.

Z more confusing with American numbering, in which the breaking load or diameter is more difficult to determine. But there are not so many “braids” with American numbering in our stores, so we will not dwell on them in detail.
A here is a “braid” with Japanese numbering in the form # (number symbol) in our stores there are already plenty, especially small diameters aimed at. This numbering is specific and understandable, although unusual for us. The number indicated on the packaging indicates the area coefficient cross section fishing line relative to a certain standard. - HG-PEType III– hybrid braided line made of HG-PE fibers and fluorocarbon thread, specific gravity 1.08, drowning, medium-hard (harder than HG-PE, but softer than HG-PE Type II). Abrasion resistance is very high. With this technology, fluorocarbon thread is braided with HG-PE polyethylene fibers. It is more profitable to overpay for these meters than to buy a new reel with braided fishing line.
5. CONCLUSION

If you often fish in a body of water where there are a lot of shells at the bottom, or in snags, then a monofilament line is unlikely to last long, but a braided line will last you much longer. Dirt does not get between the fibers of a high-quality braided fishing line; it does not become shaggy after several fishing trips, i.e. it is more effective to use in difficult conditions. Under normal fishing conditions, “braided line” can last up to several years, and can be stored for as long as desired.
- Minimal stretchability, thanks to which fishing methods such as jig, twitching, and jerking have gained great development. After all, without sensitive, non-stretchable braid, it is almost impossible to carry out correct wiring and notice the bite of a predator, for example, when fishing with ultralight or microjig.
Flaws:
- Strong fishing line puts a lot of stress on the rod, guides, and reel, so the gear should be of higher quality and require careful care.
- The minimum stretchability of the “braid” will require the angler to have experience in handling the rod and reel clutch.
- Braided fishing line, especially poor quality, can pick up dirt, causing significant damage to the rod guides and spinning reel.
