Biography, life story of Pacquiao Manny

Manny Pacquiao- Filipino professional boxer.

Briefly

Full name: Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao.

Place of birth: Kibawe, Philippines.

Height: 168 cm.

Attack distance: 170 cm.

The beginning of the journey

Manny Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978 into a poor Filipino family. At the age of 11, impressed by the fight with Buster Douglas, he first came to the boxing gym. However, his mother forbade him to engage in boxing and this became the reason for a serious conflict, as a result of which he ran away from home at the age of 12 and wandered for some time. Very little is known about this period of Pacquiao’s life; he himself did not like to talk about it.

In total, Manny fought 64 fights in the amateur ring, winning 60. Shortly after his sixteenth birthday, Pacquiao made his professional debut, defeating a certain Edmund Ignacio on points. This victory was followed by ten more, but then Manny suffered his first defeat: he was knocked out in the third round by the little-known Filipino Rustico Torrecampo. This failure, however, did not bother the 17-year-old boxer and he continued to win.

Professional career

In June 1997, Manny Pacquiao defeated the experienced Chokchai Chokwiwat of Thailand. This fight brought him a minor regional flyweight title, and also allowed him to get into the ratings of leading boxing organizations.

In December 1998, Pacquiao came out championship fight according to the WBC in the weight category up to 50.8 kg against the holder of this title Chatchaya Sasakul and knocked him out in the eighth round. By this time, Manny was already finding it difficult to fit into the flyweight limit, and after one defense of the title, he lost it “on the scales”, failing to make weight for the fight with Medgoen Singsurat, which took place in September 1999. According to members of Pacquiao's team, this made a very difficult impression on him and, having entered the fight with Singsurat with absolutely no desire to fight, Manny lost by knockout in the third round.

After that, Pacquiao jumped up two weight categories at once and in his next fight, which took place in December of the same year, he defeated former WBC super featherweight title contender Reinante Jamili by technical knockout. The series of early victories over strong opponents that followed attracted the attention of the famous American promoter Murad Mohammed, who signed a contract with Pacquiao, promising to take him to a championship fight.

Murad kept his promise, although not without the help of chance: the opponent of IBF champion Lelohonolo Ledwaba pulled out of the fight two weeks before the scheduled date and Pacquiao agreed to replace him. Having worked during the preparation for the fight with famous trainer Freddie Roach, Manny entered the ring not at all the fighter that they were used to seeing him. He began to act much more technically, connecting blows into perfect combinations. Already in the first round, Pacquiao shook his opponent with a five-punch combination to the head, and then rained down another hail of blows on him, from which Ledwaba emerged with a broken nose and a bloody face. In the second round, Pacquiao sent Ledwaba to the floor of the ring with a short left hook to the jaw. Having stood up, the champion tried to turn the tide of the battle by leading him on a collision course, but was not very successful in this.

In the third round, one of the challenger’s blows broke Ledvaba’s nose; blood began to flow uncontrollably, now covering not only his face, but also his entire chest, underpants and gloves. Pacquiao continued to dominate the ring, and Ledwaba could not find any antidote to his attacks. Having worked two rounds almost like a training round, at the end of the fifth Pacquiao almost knocked out the champion, who was saved only by the gong.

The end came in the sixth round. About 30 seconds after it started, Pacquiao sent Ledwaba crashing to the floor with a powerful left cross that landed squarely on the chin. Ledwaba managed to get up, but it was already clear that he was holding on to one character. A few seconds after the fight resumed, another left hand knocked Ledwaba down again. The champion landed hard on his back and covered his face with his gloves, clearly unable to take the beating any longer. The referee stopped the count and declared Manny Pacquiao the winner and the new IBF champion.

Having become a champion, Pacquiao immediately set his sights on unifying the belts and fought his next fight against WBO title holder Agapito Sanchez. But the Filipino failed to carry out his plan. Sanchez fought the fight very dirty from the very beginning and committed so many rules violations over the course of six rounds that he could easily have been disqualified. However, the referee was quite loyal to Sanchez’s antics and limited himself to deducting two points from him. In the second round, Pacquiao was cut as a result of a clash of heads, and in the sixth, after another clash, the cut worsened and the fight was stopped. The counting of the judges' notes did not reveal a winner: one of the judges gave a draw, the votes of the other two were divided, and each of the champions ended up with his own belt.

The Sanchez fight was followed by a meeting with two-time world bantamweight champion Jorge Eliecer Julio. Pacquiao became the first and only boxer to win early victory over the seasoned Colombian. The Filipino boxer dominated the ring from the very beginning of the fight, overwhelming his opponent with a barrage of combinations. At the end of the second round, when several of Pacquiao's punches went unanswered, the referee stopped the fight.

Pacquiao's next fight was even shorter. Already in the first round of the fight, which took place in the Philippines, he knocked out three knockdowns, and then a deep knockout of the IBF mandatory challenger Fakprakorb Stikvenim (Rakkiatjima). The boxer from Thailand lay unconscious on the floor of the ring for more than 20 minutes and was immediately sent to the hospital.

After a warm-up fight with Serik Eshmangbetov from Kazakhstan, whom Pacquiao defeated by technical knockout in the fifth round, having previously been on the floor himself, the Filipino held another defense of his title, winning a spectacular victory over the never-lost Mexican Emmanuel Lucero.

At this time, promoter Manny Pacquiao was already negotiating a meeting with the living legend of Mexican boxing and generally recognized as the strongest, although he did not have any championship belts, featherweight boxer. In this Pacquiao fight was by no means considered a favorite, but he upset all forecasts from the very beginning, subjecting the Mexican to furious attacks. In the first round, the Filipino suffered a dubious knockdown (on replay it was clear that he did not fall from a blow, but simply stumbled), but this became the first and last success. The rest of the fight was an almost one-sided beating, in which the only question was whether he would be able to hold out until the end. He failed: in the eleventh round, the seconds threw in the towel, saving their fighter from a knockout.

This victory brought Manny Pacquiao superstar status in his homeland and made him famous and popular in the United States. After some period of hesitation, he decided not to return to his previous weight category, but to remain in the featherweight division and try to win the championship title there. Manny's opponent this time was chosen to be very inconvenient - the greatly underrated WBA and IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. This Mexican was not particularly popular among the public, but many experts considered him the strongest boxer of this era. weight category, placing even higher and, who by that time had already moved to the first lightweight weight. Most serious experts believed that Marquez's technical superiority and excellent defensive skills would ensure that the Mexican confident victory. As the battle showed, these predictions were only partially justified.

The meeting between Pacquiao and Marquez took place on May 8, 2004, and its beginning turned out to be completely shocking: already in the first round, the champion was on the floor three times, and it was clear that he did not get up without difficulty. However, by the third or fourth rounds, Marquez evened out the course of the fight and until the very end he successfully held back Pacquiao’s attacks. The judges' opinions on the outcome of this fight differed in the most radical way: one of them scored 115-110 in favor of Pacquiao, another gave the victory to Marquez with exactly the same score, and the third scored a draw - 113-113. As a result, the fight ended in a draw and Marquez retained his belts.

This fight was again followed by a period of uncertainty, during which negotiations were held about meetings with WBC champion In Jin Chi, as well as a rematch with Marquez. However, before the end of the year, Manny only managed to have a warm-up fight with a strong boxer from Thailand, Fasang Por Thavachai (3K Battery), in which he confidently won, knocking out his opponent in the fourth round.

Pacquiao's next step again showed that he is not looking for easy ways and strives to meet only the strongest opponents, regardless of whether they have championship titles or not. Manny again moved one category higher and his opponent in the first fight in the new weight was none other than the legendary Mexican boxer, who won championship belts in three weight categories.

Cinema

Manny's talents are not limited to the ability to place punches well and defend against enemy attacks. So, back in the mid-50s, Pacquiao participated in the filming of various TV series, playing mostly himself. And in 2000 he made his debut as a real dramatic actor. Since then, Manny has been repeatedly invited to appear in their films by many directors.

To meet him, Pac Man jumped to welterweight, skipping one category. De La Hoya, who had an advantage in height and arm length, was considered the undisputed favorite, but already in the debut it became clear that the experts were deeply mistaken. The American simply did not have time to react to Manny’s lightning-fast attacks: despite the long arms of the “Golden Boy,” he was getting a hard time.

Before the ninth round, the American's corner stopped the fight, and Pacquiao ascended to the boxing Olympus. De La Hoya, by the way, received such a painful blow to his pride that he never returned to the ring - the fight with the Filipino was the last in his career.

Boxing techniques and techniques of Manny Pacquiao

Before you start reading the article, I recommend that you watch the video below with some of Manny Pacquiao's techniques

Manny Pacquiao's boxing style

Well, now let’s move directly to the techniques used by Manny Pacquiao during the fight.

Strikes with moving feet

If you watch any of Manny's fights, you will see that very often Pacquiao moves around the ring with ease while carrying out an attack. Manny freely throws powerful, varied combinations of punches while moving forward (sometimes he goes the entire length of the ring while throwing punches), after which he takes a step to the left or right and immediately throws the next combination. This style of fighting is very unusual for boxers and shocks them with its duration, speed, strength and change in direction of blows.

Octopus

This is a technique very often used by Menni, which in America was called a hurricane. To carry out this action, Manny pins his opponent in a corner or near the ropes and rains down blows on him, both to the head and to the body. After such a powerful attack, the opponents have difficulty staying on their feet. The peculiarity of this technique performed by Manny is that he delivers many strong and accurate blows bypassing the opponent’s defense (it is the accuracy, power and speed that distinguishes him from other boxers performing this technique).

Clinch break

As mentioned above, Mennie has incredible stamina. Manny deliberately sets a high pace of the fight in order to wear down his opponent. When his opponents begin to get tired and cannot defend themselves effectively, they try to enter the clinch in order to rest a little and recover from the blows. Manny deprives them of this opportunity in several ways. Firstly, he does not allow his opponent to get close; to do this, he constantly moves, makes sharp leaps back and to the side when the opponent tries to approach him. If the opponent manages to grab Manny in a clinch, he carries out his technique - he does not resist, slightly relaxes his body, raises his hands up, and then makes a sharp and strong jerk with his body down and stepping back. Having freed himself from the clinch, Menni begins to attack.

Dive behind the opponent's back

Although this technique is known in boxing as a classic one, boxers use it quite rarely due to the complexity of its execution. Manny performs this technique to perfection and you can see it in any of his fights. He performs this technique at the moment when the enemy strikes. Manny makes a sharp dive under the attack with a simultaneous step right leg diagonally to the right and forward towards the opponent. After this action, he ends up on the opponent’s left side. Then Manny acts according to the circumstances and his preference - he either carries out an attack, which, as a rule, becomes very effective and unexpected for the opponent, or simply continues to move further, goes behind the opponent’s back and waits for him to turn around and expose his bewildered face to receive another blow.

Horse racing attacks

Pacquiao makes most of his attacks on horse races. Menni makes a sharp push with his legs in the direction of the opponent while simultaneously delivering a blow, after which he makes a second leap with the blow - if the opponent moves away. Thus, he quickly reduces the distance, stunning the opponent by suddenly appearing in the critical attack zone. As a rule, at the moment of this technique, his opponents go into deep defense with a block, and Pac-Man, knowing this, calmly continues the attack on the unprotected areas of the enemy.

Impact combinations

Pac-Man is a big fan of multi-hit streaks. Very often he uses the five-strike Syria. If the enemy is hiding behind a block, Manny can carry out 2-3 series in a row consisting of five different types of blows to the body and head. With all this, enough force is put into each of his blows to inflict maximum damage on the opponent. Such serial attacks very quickly destroy his opponents, exhausting, discouraging and pinning them, making them easy prey.

I suggest you stop for a moment and watch video clips with the techniques and techniques described above. After which a second portion of Pac-Man techniques and techniques awaits you.

Manny Pacquiao Boxing Technique

Jab Block and Counter Jab

To perform this technique, Manny Pacquiao moves around the ring, making his opponent believe that he will not get involved in the fight. But, as soon as the opponent throws the first blow, as a rule, Pacquiao slightly blocks this blow with a stand and immediately throws a counter-jab in response.

Right cross over jab

Many of Pacquiao's opponents rely too much on their size, arm length and height advantages. One might assume that a long jab will always beat a short right hook-cross, but not when that right is from Manny Pacquiao.

What Pacquiao does is tilt his head to the left - on inner side jab of the opponent, while simultaneously delivering a right cross over the jab of the right-handed opponent. As a rule, a southpaw shouldn't do this because he exposes himself to his opponent's right hand. Pacquiao is prepared for this too, tilting his head back a little if a right hand lands or beats it with a faster left cross.

Jumping backhand while leaving behind the opponent

This blow is very noticeable if the opponent is not expecting it, and besides, Pacquiao does it while jumping, investing all his body weight and the force of his legs! With this blow he repeatedly knocked down his opponents. Pacquiao begins this technique by moving around the ring and at some point, he makes a sharp and powerful push with his legs forward towards his opponent, quickly leans forward and throws a straight left hand punch. Very often, upon completion of the striking action, Manny finds himself behind the opponent's left hand, which gives him a favorable position for further attacking actions.

Triangle Defense

This defense technique is quite interesting. Pacquiao puts his gloves in front of his head and throws his elbows high and towards his opponent. This is very unconventional because boxers are taught to keep their elbows down to protect their core. Pacquiao, on the other hand, raises his elbows to form a triangle to dodge or parry punches with his forearms.

He does this because his opponents are too tall for him and they are not very comfortable with punches to Pacquiao’s body. If he used and simply kept his arms at his side, his opponent's punches would penetrate his guard through his hands and gloves. With this triangle guard, he can completely deflect punches by rotating his forearms. This type of defense is more effective at stopping heavier hits. The only weak point in this defense is that his body is open when he raises his elbows.

Step left, left cross

This is a textbook counter that every southpaw should know when fighting a right-handed opponent (and vice versa). Manny Pacquiao does it exceptionally well against right-handed opponents and everyone should study how he does it.

As a southpaw, Pacquiao expects a strong right hand or direct blow from an opponent. As soon as the opponent throws this punch, Menni takes a step to the left and tilts his head to the left of the opponent's right hand. As soon as the right cross flies, he quickly turns on his foot and throws a counter cross to the left.

In some cases, Pacquiao will counter first with a light jab with his right hand or leave right hand extended, pushing his opponent's head to the side before throwing a powerful left cross.

Vertical Jab

A vertical jab means that his fist is positioned straight, as we say - keeping the fist with the glass, this way it is more likely to pass through the gap in the opponent's defense and hit the target. When throwing a vertical jab, Pacquiao does not twist his arm as is taught when throwing a regular jab. Since the glove is much narrower in a vertical position, the blow passes more easily through the opponent’s slightly open defense.

Forearm Defense

Pacquiao uses his forearms very intelligently. If you look closely at the way he moves his forearms, you will see how he manipulates his opponents in the ring with his forearms. His forearms are often used as a shield to prevent an opponent from countering or as an outflanking maneuver, allowing him to escape without being hit. He also uses his forearms to keep his opponent at a distance.

Rear Left Overhand

Pacquiao throws this hard left hand on a step-back jump. His left overhand comes from a long distance, as if from behind his back. Pacquiao tilts his head forward to the right, luring his opponent out with his head. While his opponent is too busy looking down at his head, he doesn't see that powerful backhand coming up from behind. In battle Pacquiao's rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez, you can see that it was this kind of overhand left that sent Marquez to the floor.

In the Ricky Hatton fight, Pacquiao's powerful overhand left was almost behind him as it connected with Hatton's chin. This is a kind of invisible strike, extremely effective.

Left high, left low

Pacquiao throws a 1-2-1-4k, which is essentially a jab, followed by a left cross to the head, followed by another jab, and ends with a left side kick to the body. His opponents expect the usual 1-2-1-2, that is, left-right-left-right, and they block high, opening the body.

Strikes from different angles

Pacquiao's ability to throw out various and powerful blows from different angles with high speed prevent his opponents from noticing them and defending themselves. Pacquiao skillfully uses his "fast" feet to get into a good position to throw punches.

Boxing style and technique of Manny Pacquiao - Manny Pacquiao style boxing updated: January 2, 2018 by: Boxingguru

Manny Pacquiao is undoubtedly one of the greatest fighters of our time. This is the most famous Filipino professional boxer, world champion in several weight categories and a formidable subversive of authority, with a childish and slightly naive face. Manny was born on December 17, 1978 in Kibawa, Bukingdon, Philippines. The most popular person in his country, Manny Pacquiao is active political life in his homeland and acts in films.

His nickname is " Pac-Man" - a play on words on English. And how fair is this nickname, it’s best to ask those who have been with him for so many years “ packs"in the ring. Pac-Man burst into professional boxing like a whirlwind and very soon made himself talked about as a rising star. Real glory came to him when he began to fight with titled Mexicans, forcing such great warriors as Marco Antonio Barrera, Miguel Angel Cotto, Erik Morales, Antonio Margarito. Manny Pacquiao showed himself to be an aggressive and skilled puncher, always fighting at a high tempo and working closely “on the floors”, which, in the end, destroyed any defensive measures of his opponents. And taking into account the fact that his opponents were themselves skilled knockout artists, then Pac-Man simply “cut down” many of them, showing not only superior striking technique, but also phenomenal endurance.

Manny fought a series of battles with some of the Mexican boxers that attracted the attention of tens of millions of people. Worth mentioning are the trilogies vs. Eric Morales And Juan Manuel Marquez. We managed to win one of the fights, the fiercest in terms of the intensity of the struggle Erik Morales. And for many years he became the last person to raise his hand in the same ring with Manny Pacquiao, until 06/09/2012 Pac-Man did not lose by split decision to a black American Timothy Bradley.
