The athlete disappeared on October 28, when she went home in a personal Kia Rio car to the Zavodskoy district of Minsk.

After examining the found car and Yulia’s apartment, investigators had reason to believe that she was the victim of an attack. A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Art. 139 ("Murder").

On suspicion of committing this crime, the police detained Yulia's 28-year-old former partner, Dmitry V. As a result, he was charged under Part 1 of Art. 139 and part 1 of Art. 214 ("Hijacking vehicle") Criminal Code of Belarus.

“An active search for the girl began from the moment the disappearance was reported. Since November 8, by order of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Commander of the Internal Troops Yuri Karaev, 300 soldiers from military units 3214, 5448, 5310 were allocated daily for these purposes. According to the deputy head of the first department of the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexander Turban, the operatives, not without reason, believed that the murder suspect was “deliberately hiding the location of the corpse.” Therefore, the territory and search time have increased significantly.

Regarding the suspect in the murder of Dmitry V., it is known that he was born in Ukraine, and then moved with his family to Russia and received citizenship. Later, Dmitry’s parents died tragically, and the young man moved to his uncle and aunt in Rogachev (Gomel region of Belarus). There he trained as a tiler-plasterer in college.

Friends call Dmitry "quite a flighty guy". The young man lived and worked in Moscow for some time, where he even had a child. But then the family broke up.

“They broke up about two months ago. Before that they lived normally, and then renovations and quarrels began. So, most likely, they did not survive the renovations.”, says Dmitry V.’s friend, with whom he has been friends since college.

On September 17, Dmitry V. posted a post on social networks with a photo of Yulia and a lengthy comment. “Only now, after months and years, have I begun to discover it. She is the source that fills us. Other sources are poison.”, - wrote Dmitry.

There was speculation that jealousy could be the motive for the murder.

At the same time, Yulia Balykina’s sports friends are discussing the version that "it all happened because of money". Dmitry had problems with funds, and he did not have a permanent job.

The accused partially admitted his guilt - he disputes the number of blows.
