We invite you to look brief overview final match.

Who will win the Champions League – match forecast

Both Real Madrid and Atlético are in excellent shape and the teams' chances in this confrontation are approximately equal. The teams missed out on winning the Spanish Championship and therefore no one wants to remain without trophies this year, so the players’ motivation is beyond the bounds.

If you look at face-to-face meetings these two clubs, then Atlético dominates Real Madrid; in the last 12 matches they have only once missed a victory in regular time over the royal club. It was the Champions League final in 2014, when the mattresses conceded a goal in stoppage time, and they no longer had the strength left for extra time, and they lost with a total score of 1:3.

Atlético's road to the final was truly champion, on their way they were able to overcome such top clubs as Bayern Munich and Barcelona, which cannot but arouse admiration for Diego Simeone’s team.

As for Real Madrid, their path to the final was a little easier, but not entirely sure what the match with Wolfsburg alone was worth.

But whatever one may say, Zidane managed to rebuild the team after Benitez, organizing the game in attack and establishing interaction between the players. Therefore, Zidane’s merit also takes place.

The site estimates the final chances in the match between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid to win the 2016 Champions League as follows:

Chances of Real Madrid winning– will win the Champions League 2016 with a probability of 45%

Atlético Madrid winning odds – 55%

In recent years, Spanish clubs have dominated European competition. This once again confirms the fact that La Liga is one of the strongest championships in the world. Two Madrid football giants play there: Real and Atlético. In the 2013-2014 season, these teams fought in the final for the Champions League Cup, and in the 2015-2016 season, they met again in the final of the most prestigious club tournament in Europe. Let's remember that exciting match that took place on May 28 at the San Siro stadium in Milan (Italy).

Real Madrid - winner of the Champions League 2015-2016

In 2014, Real Madrid and Atlético reached the Champions League final. Then in the Madrid derby the Galacticos players turned out to be the strongest. That cup became the 10th anniversary for Real. The head coach of the “mattress players” was very upset by the defeat in the final, but did not give up, and a year later he again went through the hardest tournament path to finally win the UEFA Champions League Cup. In turn, Florentino Perez's club was determined to win the 11th title in its history, and was not going to give up so easily.

In order to get to the final match in Milan, both clubs overcame a difficult path. If getting out of the groups was not so problematic, the playoff stage took a lot of energy.

Real Madrid's path to the Champions League final

According to the results of the draw, Malmö, Shakhtar and PSG were in the same group with the “royal” club. The only one who could force Madrid to fight for 1st place was the French club, but they failed. Real easily took first place in the group, winning 5 times and drawing 1 time.

In the 1/8 finals, Zinedine Zidane's team still knocks out the Italian Roma without any particular difficulties with a total score of 4:0.

The first quarter-final match almost put an end to Real's path to winning another European title. The fact is that Zidane’s team underestimated the German “Folfsburg”, which managed to score 2 unanswered goals at home against the club from the Iberian Peninsula. In the return game at the Santiago Bernabuu, the “royal” club put the Germans in their place, beating Höcking Dieter’s club with a score of 3:0. After two matches, Zinedine Zidane's team advanced to the semi-finals.

To reach the final, Los Blancos had to defeat the English Manchester City, a team that is desperately trying to win the first Champions League Cup in its history. Both matches turned out to be tense, and only 1 goal helped Real reach the final.

Atlético's path to the Champions League final

“Astana”, “Benfica” and “Galatasaray” were in the same group with the “mattress makers”. Diego Semeone's team managed to leave the group in first place, and even the then powerful Portuguese Benfica could not prevent this.

The pairing of Atlético in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League was decided by the Dutch PSV. Both matches ended without goals and only in a long series after match 11-meter kicks did fortune smile on the “mattress players”.

The next opponent of the Madrid club was the Catalan Barcelona. The “blue garnets” won the first match with a score of 2:1, but then lost 2:0 at the Vicente Calderon. The Indians are in the semi-finals.

In the 1/2 finals, Semeone's team faced an opponent no less weak than in the quarterfinals. Bayern Munich tried to prevent Atlético from reaching the final, but failed. Both matches were tense and only thanks to an away goal, the Madrid club emerged victorious in the semi-final.

Real Madrid – Atlético Madrid: Champions League final 2015-2016

Before the start of the meeting, Real Madrid were considered the favorites, despite the fact that the team had an inexperienced coach, Zinedine Zidane, at the helm. There was a lot of discussion about this. Some said that Zidane was not yet mature enough to win trophies of this magnitude, others believed in the “royal” club, believing that such a star team should defeat any opponent, regardless of who the team’s head coach is. In turn, Atlético coach Diego Semeone took his team onto the field with the goal of taking revenge on Los Blancos for their defeat in the final of the same tournament in the 2013-2014 season. The Argentine coach believed in his guys. They knocked out Barcelona and Bayern, so Real Madrid didn't seem like such a formidable force.

So, let's remember that very final match of the UEFA Champions League 2016/17 in Milan.

Both coaches brought their best players to the game. In the first minutes, the teams did not actively attack, starting the match with reconnaissance. Then, Real Madrid players took the initiative into their own hands and began to create dangerous moments near Jan Oblak's goal.

The pressure gave results. In the 15th minute, after a cross from Gareth Bale, central defender Sergio Ramos makes the score 1:0 in favor of the Galacticos. After this goal, Zidane's men continued to besiege the Indians' penalty area, trying to score a second goal.

In turn, Atlético players reliably locked themselves in their half of the field, and over time, they completely seized the initiative and began to control the ball more. But still, they failed to seal Keylor Navas’s goal before the break.

In the second half of the match, the “mattress guys” moved to Real’s half of the field and began to actively combine near Navas’s goal, trying to score the desired goal. Real tried to restrain the enemy's attacks by any means and in one of the episodes Pepe brought down Griezmann. The main referee of the match, Mark Clatenburg, without thinking for a long time, pointed to the 11-meter mark.

The victim himself came to take the penalty. Antoine took a run and hit hard. Costa Rican Navas jumped into the corner, but the ball did not fly there, but hit the crossbar, almost bending it.

Diego Smeone is shocked. One of best players his squad failed to convert a penalty, which, as it turned out, could have brought Atlético the Champions Cup.

After the missed penalty, the Indians continued to lay siege to the Los Blancos goal. In turn, Zidane's team completely moved to their half of the field and began to operate on counterattacks.

At the end of the second half, Ronaldo and Bale had wonderful moments to make the score devastating, but Mattress goalkeeper Jan Oblak did not allow this. In response to Real's counterattacks, Diego Semeone's men launched their own scoring attack, which ended in a goal. In the 79th minute of the match, substitute Carrasco scored, finishing off a flank pass from Khufran.

In the remaining 10 minutes, the teams did not push forward furiously to decide the match in regulation time. There were some counter attacks from both sides, but no one managed to score.

In overtime, the protagonists were again Atlético players. They probably believed in themselves after scored a goal. Although the initiative was on the side of the “mattress players,” they failed to create scoring chances. Neither one nor the other team had any strength left. They simply played out extra time to determine the winner in a penalty shootout.
