Drake in an orange jacket. Rapper Drake has become a new meme of the fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov

Voting Drake (Drakeposting) is a four-panel comic featuring Canadian rapper Drake in an orange jacket, waving something away with his hand. Used to show negative and positive attitudes towards two similar objects.

Origin

On October 20, 2015, a video was released by Canadian rap artist Drake for the song Hotline Bling. In the music video, the rapper dances in various costumes, including the orange jacket that has become a permanent attribute of the “Voting Drake” meme.

Strictly speaking, at first users were surprised by strange dance moves Drake. And from this to short time a wave of vines, coubs and cuts poured out. Users felt that Drake's dance suited a variety of situations. And in the fall of 2015, the main trend on English-language Twitter was videos of Drake dancing to various music.

Also in 2015, users of the 4chan imageboard became the first to use still frames from a video clip as macro images. I especially loved the shot of Drake in an orange jacket making a hand gesture indicating refusal or rejection of something.

In this form, the meme circulated on the English-speaking Internet for some time, until it became new uniform, in which it is known to the Russian-speaking user.

Meaning

The Drake comic consists of two strips. The first one shows a shot of the rapper and his refusal gesture. Next to it is placed something that, according to the author’s idea, the character refuses. On the second line is a shot of a smiling Drake in the same orange jacket. Accordingly, what the author likes is depicted next to it. As a rule, these two things or two phenomena are related. It could be two girls: a pretty one and a not so pretty one. Two new memes or situations simply described in words.

Sample

Sometimes Drake's face is replaced with some other character, and then the meme becomes more specific.

The Drake meme is similar in form to other comparison memes. The comic with Michael Fassbender has a similar structure, which says ““.

Another frame from the clip, in which Drake shrugs his hands in confusion, was turned into an analogue by users. But if there is a beautiful original, why produce copies?

After Khabib Nurmagomedov attacked members of Conor McGregor’s team with his fists after winning a UFC fight, numerous memes appeared on the network with the frightened face of rapper Drake, who allegedly came to support the Irishman. But an amazing fact: there are memes with Drake, but Drake wasn’t even at the match.

The daring act of Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov, after defeating his opponent, was remembered by the audience no less than the fight itself. Soon after the match ended, spectators began posting memes with a photo of Drake with an excited look and an open mouth. As the jokes stated, this is how the musician reacted to Khabib climbing over the cage fence.

“This was not included in God's plan «

Drake: *converts to Islam*

Despite the presence of memes, Drejka was in a completely different place during the fight. According to BarDown, on October 6, Drake played a concert with Migos at the MGM Grand Hotel. Both photos of Drake are from Travis Scott's Portland concert in April 2017. But fake news could no longer be stopped.

To justify those who posted the memes, we can say that Drake was really rooting for the Irish fighter. The day before the fight, he attended the weigh-in of the opponents. On it, he followed McGregor onto the stage, draping the Irish flag over his shoulders.

The Flow website will present its vision of the history of Russian rap and remember the albums, names and events that had the greatest influence on it.

With the advent of the fast Internet, the process of producing clips (and, more importantly, delivering them to the listener) is simplified. Now you don’t have to worry about whether they’ll take the video to your channel - you can shoot it on a budget, post it on YouTube and get 15 minutes of fame.

It is from YouTube that the first rappers-memes come - clips that are watched “to laugh.”

Perm DJ Slava Khakhalkin was one of the first to launch such a viral video online. He came up with the image of “rapper Syava”, collecting all the stereotypes about gopniks from the area - sweatpants, sunflower seeds, hats above the ears. The video “Bodyryachkom”, filmed there in the area, blew up the Internet - Syava went to concerts and released an album of the same name on the Monolit label.

Muscovite Dirty Monk filmed a series of absurd podcasts in which he called himself the leader of the Moscow “Crips” and dealt with schoolchildren. The videos gained viral popularity among rap listeners, who perceived the artist as a stand-up comedian from hip-hop. Later, Dirty Monk tried to produce actual video clips - it was already worse.

Another rap meme of that era is Maxim Doshi. Known for his performance in the Ukrainian “Minute of Fame” - the show “Ukraine’s Got Talent”. Having announced from the stage that he was performing “experimental alternative rap square through square,” he took the microphone - and it’s better to watch than retell it.

Bad Boys, two schoolchildren from the village of Nikolskoye, sat at the computer and, accompanied by homemade backing tracks, rapped on camera about their lives - about going to the lake, school, and more. They immediately posted their videos on VKontakte, and there a wave of popularity overtook the group.

MC Anyuta, a girl from a village near Odessa, put recording albums and filming videos on stream - she was not even 18 when the number of releases released under her name already exceeded a dozen. Anyuta is not going to stop, continuing to create to this day. The reading and flow have not changed over these few years.

Sometimes even famous rappers didn’t hesitate to play the fool. Negative from the Triad, together with two of his colleagues, created the funny group TP “Barada”. She has released several albums.

Those who began to record funny rap not spontaneously, but meaningfully, did much better. Two residents of Samara decided to make a joke to laugh at the narrow-minded American hip-hop like Rick Ross and Gucci Mane. Taking the deliberately stupid names Big Russian Bo$$ and Young P&H, they uploaded several of the same tracks onto the Internet - so stupid that it was already funny. After a couple of months, these tracks were quoted by everyone who at least somehow followed Russian rap, and six months later the artists were already touring with all their might. And they don’t think about ending it yet!

Or here’s another good example - the creators of popular YouTube podcasts united in the humorous group Khleb. And her concerts go like this.

I got really epically scared Habib.

Another hero of the sensational battle Conor McGregor With Khabib Nurmagomedov unexpectedly became a Canadian rapper Drake .

The musician was photographed among the spectators when the Russian fighter climbed over the octagon to get into a fight with a member of the Irish team. And Drake at that moment looked so surprised and scared that users couldn’t stop making fun of him.

Social media users continue to discuss UFC 229, where Russian athlete Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated the Irishman Conor McGregor (and the latter was sad to watch in the fight). However, the main topic of the day among people was not even the fight itself, but the fight that Khabib Nurmagomedov started after it - and it became a new meme.

And while some MMA fans are arguing about the fight and brawl, others have drawn attention to another, no less famous person in the room, rooting for Conor McGregor. And this is rapper Drake. The musician actively showed his affection for the fighter - at the weigh-in before the fight, Drake even draped an Irish flag over his shoulders.

The musician also came to the fight on October 7 - and, it seems, has now become almost as much a discussed hero as the fighters. It’s all because of the expression on Drake’s face at that moment when Khabib Nurmagomedov epically climbed over the Octagon to fight with a representative of McGregor’s team.

Apparently, Drake was photographed by one of the spectators present at the fight. The shot couldn't have been more successful.

It looks like a photo of a scared (or surprised) Drake has the potential to become a great meme.

*Khabib jumps out of the octagon*
Drake: “There is no God but Allah.”

Users are massively reposting photoshopped photos of Drake. Apparently, the poor fellow definitely became the main symbol of cowardice among Twitter users for some time.

Jokes about the frightened Drake, it seems, will not end soon - after all, users found another photo of him at the moment when Khabib climbed over the octagon. And it is no less epic.

Drake: "Which Conor?"
Khabib: "Good boy."

Habib: “Aren’t you the guy who writes sinful music?”
