The best FIFA players. Place of the Russian national team in the FIFA rankings

Football is a very dynamic sport, both in the style of play and in the change of leaders and outsiders. For some, changes in the ranking of national football teams according to FIFA add positive emotions and allow them to feel proud of their country. And they allow someone to vent their anger or figure out who is better to bet on in one of the.

As of June 2018 The strongest football team in the world is the German national team. She took first place with 1544 points. Along with long-time rivals Brazil, Germany is among the world's top football teams to compete in the World Cup between 1930 and 2014. Brazilian team bears the proud title of the most titled football team. She has become world champion five times and may do so for the sixth time this year.

And since 2014, German football players have held the title of winners of four world championships in a row (they took silver in 2002, bronze in 2006 and 2010, and gold medal- in 2014). However, the FIFA rating does not take into account past awards; it shows the success of teams “here and now.”

Tunisia, Africa's most successful team, rose nine places to 14th, knocking CONCACAF leader Mexico down to 15th. The Iranian national team has overtaken all other teams from Asia and is number 36 on the list.

To the chagrin of Russian football fans, the rating of the Russian national football team in the world is low. At the beginning of June The Russian national team takes only 66th place, losing 36 points to Ukraine and 13 points ahead of Belarus. We can only hope that following the results of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the ratings of the 2018 football teams will change at least a little in our favor.

There is a possibility that the formula for ranking football teams will be revised. This issue will be considered on June 13, during a meeting of the FIFA Council in Moscow. The current formula, according to FIFA members, does not reflect true strength football teams. In addition, the council will choose the host country of the 2026 World Cup.

After the summer World Cup in Russia, the FIFA men's national team rankings were expected with double, if not triple, interest. Firstly, the balance of power in the rankings would definitely change after the championship in any case. Secondly, new rules for calculating the strength of teams have come into force, which are noticeably different from the old ones. Finally, for fans from Russia it was especially interesting how high our country would rise in the rankings after a successful performance at the home world championship. We present the latest FIFA 2018 rankings for today - the most comprehensive table that includes all the world's national teams.

Latest 2018 FIFA men's national team rankings by country

This rating was presented on August 16, 2018, and was long awaited around the world. Indeed, any world championship very noticeably changes the positions of teams in the FIFA rankings. The success of some teams and the failure of others at the main event of the four-year anniversary makes big adjustments to the ranking.

The new formula is considered fairer and better reflects the strengths of the teams. It is based on a simple and clear principle - how the national team of each specific country would look in a match with the national team of another country.

It took quite a lot of time to calculate points using this principle and compile an updated FIFA ranking. Therefore, a whole month passed between the end of the World Cup and the publication of the rankings.

The most big changes positions in the ranking were affected by two teams: Russia and Egypt. Our country's men's team rose 21 places higher and today occupies 49th place in the ranking. The Egyptian team, on the contrary, lost 20 places and fell back to 65th position.

The FIFA national team rankings are a ranking system for men's soccer teams. Member countries of the International Football Federation are ranked based on their participation in tournaments and friendly matches over the past 4 years. The rating was first presented in 1992, and since then 8 teams (Brazil, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Argentina) have occupied first place in the table. The Brazilians (5-time world champions) were in first position the longest.

To compile the rankings, FIFA uses a specific scoring system, with special attention paid to latest results teams to reflect the current competitive state. In addition, more points are awarded for participation in matches of more significant tournaments (World Cup, Copa America).

The general scoring system is as follows:

  • Victory – 3 points
  • Draw – 1
  • Loss – 0
  • Victory in the series of penalty kicks (penalties) – 2
  • Defeat in the penalty shootout – 1.

Match importance coefficient

The system for ranking teams in the ranking was changed after the end of the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Changes affected the system of scoring points by teams, and results in matches over the last 4 years began to be taken into account, and not over 8, as was previously the case. Such innovations were introduced as a response to criticism of the rankings, which did not reflect the strengths of the teams.

Full list on the official FIFA website.

For the first time, the ranking was topped by Germany, which dominated the international arena for a long time and reached the World Cup finals three times, winning one of them. Then, ahead of the 1994 World Cup, Brazil topped the table, winning 8 out of 9 qualifying matches. Afterwards, Italy spent some time in first place, successfully qualifying for the next World Cup. Then the Squadra Azzurra team was replaced by Germany.

Excellent results in the qualifying round returned the Brazilians to first place in the rankings, but during the 1994 World Cup Germany again climbed to the top, and remained there until the very final of the tournament, which the South American team won, becoming five-time World Cup winners.

The Pentacampeons were at the top of the table for several years until they were displaced in 1988 by France, which won the World Cup for the first time in its history, and then the 2000 European Championship.

The triumph at the 2002 World Cup gave the Selecao team the opportunity to once again become first. Here, Brazil did not lose to any team until February 2007, when they were pushed aside by the 2006 world champions, the Italians. Italy stayed at the top for only a month, and then they were replaced by the Argentine team. After winning the Copa America in July 2077, Brazil regained first place in the list, but in September it was replaced by Italy, and in October Argentina climbed to the top.

Victory at Euro 2008 allowed Spain to top the FIFA national team table for the first time in its history. Then the Pentacampeons once again became first after winning the 2009 Confederations Cup, but 4 months later the Spaniards regained first place, winning every match of the 2010 World Cup qualifying round.

In April 2010, the Brazilians returned to first position, but they did not stay there for long until they were displaced by the 2010 World Cup winners, the Spaniards. Then, for the first time in its history, the Dutch national team, the finalist of the 2010 World Cup, took first place.

In July 2014, the initiative was seized by the German national team, which won the FIFA World Cup for the 4th time in its history. Reaching the finals of the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 Copa America allowed Argentina to once again become the top team in the rankings. In November 2015, Belgium finished in first place for the first time in their history after topping their UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying group. In April 2017, Argentina became the first, and then, almost immediately, it was replaced by Brazil. However, in July 2017, the German team again came out on top, winning the Confederations Cup.

Place of the Russian national team in the FIFA Ranking

Today Russia occupies 37th place in the ranking with 1474 points to its credit. The Irish and Algerians are ranked higher than the Russians, respectively. This rating cannot be considered completely objective. For example, when the host country of a major competition such as the World or European Championship automatically bypasses the qualifying stage, thereby depriving itself of the opportunity to play several matches in which points could be scored.

This is precisely the situation in which Russia found itself, which was exempted from participation in qualifying matches The World Cup held only control (friendly) matches. However, FIFA categorically refuses to take this factor into account, as it would lead to difficulties in calculating points.

Attitudes towards FIFA rankings are always different. International organization publishes it every month, but often this news goes unnoticed. They fell, they got up - well, okay. Attention is paid to the rating only during draws of any kind. international tournaments, since the distribution among baskets depends precisely on the table of ranks. It is at this moment that many begin to wonder why our indicators are worse than others.

The FIFA rankings are indeed often surprising. For example, Wales is ranked higher than England, although the Welsh are stalled in qualifying for the World Cup, while their neighbors are confidently solving the problem. Brazil has long led South American group, but only in April will it finally overtake Argentina. By the way, the Albiceleste, having dropped to fifth place, will remain above other South American teams. Surprisingly, in April the Bhutan team, which lost the other day by a double-digit score, will improve its position. How is all this possible?

Rating calculation formula

The first indicator is the easiest: victory - 3 points, draw - 1, defeat - 0.

In addition, two more terms are added to the rating, based on the results of the national teams over four years (48 months). The first is the average number of points scored in matches over the past 12 months. The second is the average number of points scored over the previous 36 months.

Importance of the match

All matches under the auspices of FIFA have different importance. It is worth noting that there are friendly matches of national teams that are not official and for this reason do not affect the rating.

Essentially, the importance of a match is a special factor. The calculation is as follows:

Friendly match - 1;

Match qualifying tournament for the World or Continental Championship - 2.5;

Continental Championship or Confederations Cup match - 3;

World Cup match - 4.

Opponent Strength

The strength of the opponent is calculated based on the same FIFA rating. Again, there is a formula: you need to subtract the opponent’s position in this rating from 200. That is, a match against the leader of the FIFA ranking table has a coefficient of 199 (200-1) and so on.

However, there are 205 teams in the FIFA rankings. Can the “Opponent Strength” indicator really be negative? Of course not. According to the above formula, the coefficient is calculated up to the 150th team in the rating, respectively. Further, in any case, an indicator equal to 50 is taken. So a match against any opponent adds at least 50 to the rating calculation formula.

Confederation coefficient

Like the Match Importance indicator, everything is simple here. Each confederation (UEFA, CONMEBOL, etc.) has its own coefficient, which does not change regardless of anything.

The indicators are as follows:

CONMEBOL ( South America) - 1;

UEFA (Europe) - 0.99;

All others - 0.85.

I would like to believe that now the entire procedure for calculating the FIFA rating has become clearer.

Andrey Centrov

10. Gonzalo Higuain

Higuain is a striker in the classical sense and is capable of sending almost any ball into the net with both his feet and his head. He has an excellent shot rating of 87 and his dribbling ability of 83 allows him to find space for himself and his attacking teammates.

"Real Madrid"

9. Toni Kroos

Kroos is a key element in the successes of Real Madrid and the German national team and is the best passer in modern football (88 pass rating). While dribbling and shooting, rated at 81, are also important, what makes him world-class is his ability to get the ball literally anywhere on the field.

Chelsea

Eden Hazard

Perhaps the most famous Belgian player of all time, Hazard has an incredible 90 in pace and 92 in dribbling. The technical Hazard is almost impossible to stop on the flank; in addition, he likes to move to the center and shoot at goal or go to the goal line and pass or cross to a partner.

"Real Madrid"

7. Sergio Ramos

Ramos is the best central defender in the world. Thanks to physical strength With a rating of 83, he is capable of excellent play in both defense and attack. Few can match Ramos when it comes to aerial combat - he wins everything that flies into his penalty area or towards the opposing team's goal net. A defensive rating of 88 reflects Ramos' many skills, from his leadership and composure to his excellent reading of the game.

Bayern Munich

6. Robert Lewandowski

At the beginning of his career, Lewandowski was considered a powerful forward, but he has become one of the most versatile and technical players in modern football. In addition to all the attributes of a central pillar - 88 Shooting and 82 Fitness - he has 86 Dribbling and 81 Pace, making him one of the few well-rounded players in the position.

Bayern Munich

5. Manuel Neuer

Equally good with his feet and hands, Neuer has held the title for several years in a row. best goalkeeper peace. Even the traditional goalkeeper stats of diving (91) and handling (90) look more than convincing in Neuer, but what really sets him apart is his kicking, rated 95. Neuer has an incredible ability to fend off opponents' counterattacks by clearing the ball. with his feet, Neuer in goal is like an extra playmaker in the team.

Barcelona

4. Luis Suarez

Equal parts brilliant and eccentric, Suarez is the best finisher of all: his strikes are incredibly accurate and have a rating of 90. However, the main distinctive features Suarez is excellent dribbling (86) and physical training(81). Both on and off the ball, Suarez does a huge amount of work and his unpredictability discourages defenders who can never be sure what Suarez will do next.

Paris Saint-Germain

3. Neymar

Neymar recently became the most dear football player in the world, completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain, which shocked the whole football world. Neymar is one of the best and the brightest representatives Brazilian football, which is famous for its huge number of talented players, but so far it is slightly inferior to Messi and Ronaldo. Speed of 92 means Neymar is one of the fastest players in football, while dribbling of 94 is reminiscent of Ronaldinho in his prime.
