Figure skating competitions coming soon. Figure skating

Figure skating fans are looking forward to new performances by Evgenia Medvedeva in the 2018-2019 season. The unusual excitement is easy to explain: she is the only figure skater on the planet who can compete on an equal footing with the young prodigy Alina Zagitova. In less than a year, the “Red Ballerina” won gold medals at the European and World Championships, the Olympics and the Grand Prix. Evgenia Medvedeva will have to make every effort not to get lost in the shadow of her great compatriot!

Schedule of performances by Evgenia Medvedeva in the 2018 – 2019 season

The new season will be rich in competitions. Here is what the schedule of the most important tournaments looks like:

  • Grand Prix 2018/19: October 19 – December 9, 2018;
  • Russian Championship 2018/19: December 2018;
  • European Championship 2019: January 21 – 27, 2019;
  • World Championship 2019: March 18 – 24, 2019.

It is not a fact that a Russian will be among the participants in these competitions. Unfortunately, the domestic figure skater often suffers from injuries. Because of them, she has already missed several important competitions. Let's hope that health will not let down the idol of millions of figure skating fans!

Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2018/19

From November 19 to 23, 2018, 6 stages of the Grand Prix will take place. The athletes with the best results will qualify for the finals. It will take place from December 5 to 9.

The famous Russian has extremely pleasant memories associated with the Grand Prix of Figure Skating. She won the tournament finals in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 editions. Therefore, a new victory is expected from Evgenia Medvedeva at the 2018/19 Grand Prix!

Russian Championship 2018 – 2019

The Russian Championship will sum up the 2018 calendar year. The best representatives of Russian figure skating will perform there. The athletes will compete in Saransk at the end of 2018.

Medvedeva won gold medals in the Czech Republic twice. She became the best in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons. She missed the last game of the Chechen Championship due to injury. It will be interesting to see how Evgenia Medvedeva performs at the Russian Championships figure skating 2018/19. For now, the current champion is her sworn rival, Alina Zagitova.

European Championship 2019

The competition will take place in Belarus. Therefore, for the Russians, the 2019 EURO will actually be home. Friendly stands will be an excellent motivation for representatives of the Russian national team to show good results!

Based on the results of the 2019 European Figure Skating Championships, Evgenia Medvedeva has a chance to become a 3-time winner of the tournament. I have already submitted to the famous Muscovite twice highest award WHAT! In the last drawing she was very close to gold. But in the end main award went to another Russian superstar, Alina Zagitova.

World Championship 2019

Two months after the European Championships, it will be the turn of the world championship. In terms of its importance, the competition is almost on par with the Winter Olympics. Therefore, the best of the best will participate in the tournament!

Surely Evgenia Medvedeva will also take part in the 2019 World Figure Skating Championships. If there are no injuries, the Russian will take part in the competition for the third time. The domestic figure skater competed at the World Championships twice. And both times she ended up with gold! Is she capable of repeating her sporting achievement again?!

The 2018-2019 Figure Skating Grand Prix Series is a prestigious commercial project that has been successfully existing for more than 10 years. The strongest figure skaters on the planet take part in the presented competition, receiving the love of the audience along with substantial prize money for this. Unlike the World Championships or the Grand Prix, skaters are invited not based on their nationality, but based on their individual rating, which makes the tournament even more spectacular.

Stage schedule

The schedule for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating for the 2018-2019 season is as follows:

The 2018-2019 Figure Skating Grand Prix series will end final stage, which will take place in Vancouver, Canada from December 6 to 9. Only 6 athletes who have scored nai more points in previous stages. They will compete for final places among themselves.

Tournament history

Figure skating- a spectacular sport that is in no way inferior in popularity to, for example, or. However, fans want to watch the performances of the best athletes, which is not always possible at regional tournaments. Therefore, to increase spectator interest, a Grand Prix series was invented under the auspices of the ISU ( International Union speed skaters), which made it possible to increase athletes’ fees and increase attendance at ice arenas.

The Grand Prix series originated in 1995, when several amateur competitions in the United States were combined into one stage (Skate of America). In subsequent years, five more stages were added in countries where figure skating is most in demand. As a result, the tournament acquired its modern “face” and was called the “Grand Prix Series”. In 1997, a junior series was created, uniting best athletes, whose age at the time of the competition does not exceed 15 years.

Grand Prix Regulations

The competition in question is held in the following disciplines:

  • ice dancing;
  • pair skating;
  • masculine single skating;
  • women's single skating.

The 12 best athletes in their discipline participate in each of the established stages. Skaters who took the first six lines of the final protocol at the last World Championship are guaranteed participation in at least two stages. These athletes are considered “seeded”, but in case of their refusal, an athlete from the ISU ranking takes the vacant place. At the same time, the country hosting the Grand Prix stage receives the right to enter any three participants (despite the rating) in each competitive discipline.

After performances, skaters are awarded points according to their placings. For example, first place at a stage brings 15 points, second – 13 points, third – 11 points, fourth – 9, fifth – 7, sixth – 5, etc. Upon completion of all six stages, the points scored by the athletes are summed up, and The six best skaters in their discipline qualify for the 2018-2019 Grand Prix Final.

Tournament prize fund

Since interest in the competition is constantly growing, more and more television companies are acquiring the rights to broadcast this sporting event. As a result, the prize money is also growing, which today amounts to:

  • $18,000 for first place at any Grand Prix event;
  • $13,000 for second position;
  • $9,000 for third place;
  • $3,000 for fourth place;
  • $2,000 for fifth place.

In the Grand Prix finals in figure skating, the prize money is completely different. The winner of the tournament receives $25,000, silver medalist– $18,000, and the bronze winner – $12,000. It is noteworthy that the athlete who takes the last sixth place in the final protocol is awarded $3,000. Therefore, the financial incentive for the best skaters on the planet is extremely attractive.

As for the junior Grand Prix series, the prize money here is much more modest. The winner of each stage in his discipline will receive no more than $2,000, while at the final the winner in single skating is awarded $6,000, and greenhouses are awarded $9,000. However, the majority of beginning athletes go out for rentals not for financial reward, but to improve their skills, realize their own ambitions, and also audience recognition.

Who will take part?

An interesting fight will unfold in women's single skating. Two of the best Russian figure skaters, Evgenia Medvedeva and Alina Zagitova, will compete in this discipline. Until recently, the girls performed under the guidance of one coach, Eteri Tutberidze, but after an internal conflict, Medvedeva switched to Canadian specialist Brian Orser. IN upcoming season fans have the right to expect an intensification of the struggle between the athletes, whose confrontation will reach a different level.

In men's single skating, a battle will unfold between the Japanese and American figure skating schools (we are talking, first of all, about Shomo Uno and Nathan Chen). Mikhail Kolyada, who ranks fourth in the ISU rankings, stands apart here. In order to break into the competition of single skaters, a promising domestic skater will have to make every effort.

IN pair skating have good chances for medals Russian athletes Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov and Natalya Zabiyako/Alexander Enbert. The main competitors of the Russian couples so far are Yu Xiaoyu/Hao Ren (China). The level of French and Italian doubles has also increased noticeably, which promises an intensification of the fight in this discipline.

In ice dancing, Russian figure skaters Alexander Stepanov and Ivan Bukin. it is necessary to demonstrate your best performance, otherwise even getting into the final of the tournament will remain in doubt. The fashion in this competitive discipline is set by French and American pairs, who will most likely compete for prizes among themselves.

Thus, the question of when the 2018-2019 Figure Skating Grand Prix series will take place is no longer relevant. The tournament schedule was approved at a special ISU facility and includes the Russian stage. Domestic fans have one of the most spectacular views sports, there will be an opportunity to see the best figure skaters on the planet with your own eyes, enjoying their skating and the fight for the highest places on the podium.
