ITF Futures

ITF Futures- a cycle of international men's professional tennis tournaments held by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Futures tournaments have been held since 1998 and represent the lowest, “student” level of international professional tournaments. The rating gained in these tournaments serves as a criterion for admission to tournaments at the next levels - ATP Challenger, and then in ATP Tour tournaments.

Story

ITF Futures tournaments were first introduced into the calendar of international tennis competitions in 1998. This year, 212 tournaments of this level were held with a total prize fund of 2 million 635 thousand dollars. Futures tournaments replace 65 percent of the number of tournaments in the previous ITF cycle, the ITF Satellites. At the same time, ITF Satellites tournaments were held in a gradually decreasing volume until 2006.

Structure and rules

The rules provide for Futures tournaments to be held in series of two in a row (with a prize fund of $15,000 each) or three in a row (with a prize fund of $10,000 each). In total, the tour hosts over 400 one-week tournaments in more than 60 countries around the world. In underdeveloped countries, ITF tournaments are sponsored by a special Development Fund Grand Slam(English) Grand Slam Development Fund, GSDF ). This allows players from such countries to participate in international tournaments in their region.

Both professional and amateur tennis players are allowed to participate in the tournaments. Fans have the right to compensation for travel and accommodation expenses from the organizers. Participation in the main draw of tournaments is free; the entry fee for participation in the qualifiers should not exceed $40. ITF Futures tournaments have a seeding system in which the highest-ranked players among the participants (international or national) are drawn to avoid meeting each other in the early stages.

With the exception of indoor tournaments, games in the main draw of Futures tournaments begin no later than Tuesday and end no later than Sunday. A player cannot participate in more than one tournament per week. During periods of Grand Slam and ATP tournaments lasting more than one week, a player may participate in the Futures (as well as Challenger) tournament running concurrently with them, provided that he has withdrawn from contention in a higher-ranking tournament before the deadline submitting applications for participation in a lower rank tournament.

The main draw of Futures tournaments is designed for 32 participants in singles and 16 pairs. Matches are played until victory in two sets. In each set in singles, a tie-break is allowed with a score of 6-6 in games. When the score is 1-1 in sets doubles The third set is played, which is a super tiebreak, in which the first couple to score 10 points wins.
