Sea buckthorn oil is characterized by a high content of vitamins, mainly A, C and E, minerals (calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus), phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins, sugars, organic acids (oxalic, maleic, malic, tartaric), unsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid), phytosterols (-sitosterol, ergosterol), amino acids. The composition of the oil depends on many factors, including the degree of ripeness of the fruit, its size, processing methods, the climate in which the sea buckthorn grew, and the time of harvesting its fruits.

The dominant substances in the seed oil are linoleic acid and -linolenic acid, and in the pulp oil - palmitoleic acid.
