Juventus coach Carrera could go to prison for manslaughter. Juventus coach Carrera may go to prison for manslaughter Carrera ran over two girls

SMALL HOMELAND

Massimo (he is now 53) was born in a small town in northwestern Italy - Sesto San Giovanni, whose population is less than 90 thousand people. The specialist is included in the list of famous people of this city along with the figure skater, 2001 world champion in ice dancing Barbara Fusar-Poli and the artist Federico Faruffini.

DEBUT IN SERIE A

Carrera began to play in Serie A quite late. He made his debut in the Italian Championship at the age of 25 for the Bari club, with which he first won Serie B (1988/1989). By the way, the main colors of this team are red and white. Magic?

TEAM ITALY

After a good first season at Juventus, which he joined from Bari in 1991, Carrera was called up to the national team. But he played only one game for the Italian national team - and that was a friendly one, against San Marino.

SONG IN HIS HONOR

After Juventus, Carrera played for Atalanta, where he became a real hero. The famous Italian singer Bepi even dedicated a song to him.

AGE PLAYER

Massimo ended his career as a professional football player at the age of 44. He finished the game in Serie B for Pro Vercelli from a small city in Italy.

COACHING DEBUT

He began his coaching career in 2009 with the Juventus youth team. At the beginning of the 2012/2013 season, Carrera took the helm of the main team, albeit in an acting capacity. It was then that Antonio Conte and his assistant were suspended for several games due to a match-fixing scandal. Massimo showed himself brilliantly! Out of 10 games, seven were won and three ended in a draw. Moreover, under the leadership of Carrera, Juventus won the Italian Super Cup.

TANDEM WITH ANTONIO CONTE

During their time at Juve, Carrera and Conte developed a good relationship. After leaving the team, Antonio invited Massimo to be his assistant in the Italian national team, where they worked together for two years. But after the national team, their paths diverged... Conte was invited to Chelsea, but he did not take Carrera with him. But the Italian agreed to become an assistant at Spartak Moscow. A short time later, Massimo replaced Dmitry Alenichev as head coach. Carrera has said more than once that he looks up to and admires Conte. And, working at the Moscow club, he puts into practice the knowledge gained while working with a 47-year-old specialist.

CONVICTED FOR MURDER

A few years ago, Carrera (then coach of Juventus) was sentenced to 2.5 years for manslaughter. An Italian was involved in a road accident in which two young girls died (one of them died on the spot, and the second died in the hospital). Some media outlets claimed that Conte did not take Carrera with him to Chelsea precisely because of this fact, which the management of the English club did not like.

TYPICAL ITALIAN

Carrera, like most Italians, is very emotional. Of course, no one will be surprised by the fact that the coach gestures and actively waves to the players during the game. But the way 53-year-old Massimo can run around the pitch, jump and hug fans in joy of victory is impressive. And the news that Spartak became the champion ahead of schedule touched him so much that he could not hold back his tears.

FAMILY

Carrera has a real female kingdom: his wife Pinny and two daughters, Francesca and Martina. While the youngest, Martina, is still a student, the eldest recently received her second higher education. My wife and daughters often visit our capital and attend Spartak matches.

“Carrera killed two girls,” “Flour” in the nostril...” CSKA fans against the Spartak coach and the latest addition to the “red-whites”

As promised, fans opposed the transfer to Spartak of Roman Eremenko, who served a two-year disqualification for cocaine. The Spartak fans only promised, but the army fans did. At the home match with Arsenal Tula in the 4th round of the RPL, they hung offensive banners against Roman Eremenko. On the “sheets” it is written: “Flour” in the nostril, and he himself is in shit” (and the symbol of where Eremenko entered is depicted in the form of a Spartak rhombus), “Have you heard about strong male friendship in Spartak?”, “It’s normal for you, for us immoral”, “Are you sure they let you go?”, “They’ll shoot up their cocaine and go to Spartak...

Some of the stretches were downright obscene. Nearby, army fans also hung banners against Spartak midfielders Roman Zobnin and Alexander Tashaev, who previously played for Dynamo, as well as head coach Massimo Carrera. Carrere, they remembered the old story of 2011 with the death of two 23-year-old girls in a car accident due to the fault of a mentor. The banner read "Carrera killed two girls."

“Unfortunately, this can happen to anyone. Anyone can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't wish anyone to experience this. To this day, when I talk about it, shivers run down my spine. This will stay with me for the rest of my life,” Carrera said in an interview with Championship, who after that tragic story received 2.5 years in prison for manslaughter. Subsequently, this period was replaced by monetary compensation, as the court took into account the factors surrounding the accident.

Massimo Carrera is an Italian football player who at various times played as a defender in the football clubs Juventus and Bari. Now the winner of the Spanish Cup, about whom representatives of the Match TV channel made a film, is the head coach of Spartak Moscow.

It was this man who managed to revive combative, attacking football among the most titled team in Russia. It is believed that it was Carrera who returned the notorious Spartak spirit to the team. Back in Juventus, Massimo worked out the most delicate moment in football - the rapid transition from defense to attack, so the talented Spaniard always relies on a concrete defense at the beginning and a lightning-fast attack at the end.

Childhood and youth

Massimo Carrera was born on April 22, 1964 in northern Italy, in the city of Sesto San Giovanni. Like any coach, the Italian began his journey to the football Olympus as a player of local clubs.

Massimo took his first steps in football at the Pro Sesto club. The ambitious young man began his professional career there, spending a couple more seasons in the lower leagues of the Italian championship (he played for the Russi and Alessandria football clubs). In 1985, Massimo moved to Serie B club Pescara. The future coach played nineteen matches in the Italian team and scored one goal.

Football

In 1986, Massimo signed a contract with the Bari club from the city of the same name, located in the south of the “Italian boot”. The defender's competent actions allowed Bari to reach Serie A. Massimo became the team captain and a local legend.

Massimo Carrera at the Bari club

The young player played for this club for the same five seasons that he spent in Bari, with the difference that he was less often in the starting lineup and more often sat on the bench. Together with the team, the player won the Italian Cup, the Champions League and the UEFA Cup. Among other things, at Juventus Massimo earned the right to represent the Italian national team at the international level.

Then Carrera was noticed by representatives of Juventus. The footballer played there from 1991-1996, under the leadership of the outstanding mentor Giovanni Trapattoni. The tough and competent defender was in shape all the time and did not relax for a second. This brilliant five-year period marked the high point in Massimo's playing career.

Massimo Carrera at Juventus

Together with Juventus, the future coach acquired almost every possible trophy: he became the Italian champion, received the National Cup and Super Cup, won the Champions League and won the UEFA Cup. Carrera was a starting player, but the competition in Juventus turned out to be very strong.

In the summer of 1996, Carrera was sold to Atalanta. There he quickly became the team leader and wore the captain's armband on his shoulder for six years. In total, Massimo played 207 matches for the Bergamo club. The Italian ended his career in Napoli (26 matches), Treviso (twelve matches) and Pro Vercelli (63 games).

Coaching career

In June 2009, Carrera became the new technical coordinator for the youth sector of the Juventus football club. Also, for a couple of months, Massimo worked with the core of the team, replacing Antonio Conte during the match-fixing trial.

After the trial, Conte was disqualified, Carrera took over as head coach and at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season led the team in the Italian Super Cup match against Napoli, which his players won. This award was Massimo's first trophy in his coaching career.

After Conte's resignation in July 2014, Massimo also left the club, and in August he joined Conte as assistant coach of the Italian national team. After Euro 2016, Conte received the position of head coach of Chelsea, and Carrera became an assistant at Spartak Moscow.

In the third qualifying round of the Europa League, the red-whites were eliminated from the cup tournament. The club's management removed Alenichev and appointed Carrera to the position of acting head coach.

Massimo Carrera at the Spartak club

Spartak fans looked at the Italian with skepticism and did not believe that this particular person would lead their favorite club to long-awaited victories. However, Carrera’s first match as a coach (the red-and-whites played against FC Krasnodar) ended in a confident victory with a score of 2:0.

The three subsequent matches were crowned with victories, and the blaming voices of the skeptics magically transformed into the approving cries of the fans, chanting at every match the chant “A tutti avanti!” Massimo Carrera!

Personal life

There were no changes in the personal life of the eminent coach throughout his career. No matter how hard the representatives of the yellow press tried, it was impossible to impose an affair on the side on the former Bari football player.

Carrera is an exemplary family man who, for 30 years, has dedicated all his victories to his beloved wife Pinny and daughters Francesca (the eldest) and Martina (the youngest). You may get the impression that the coach’s life is cloudless and the path to success was not overshadowed by anything. However, this is not true. There is also a dark spot in the Italian’s biography.

In 2012, rumors appeared on the Internet that a former football player had killed girls. It later turned out that on New Year's Eve 2011, Carrera was involved in an accident. A car with two representatives of the fairer sex was crashed into by a car with a drunk driver at the wheel. Fortunately, this driver was not Massimo.

However, the wrecked car, without headlights, remained on the dark road for a couple of hours. Carrera couldn't see the car and crashed into it. The two girls who were still in the car died on the spot, and the coach was almost sent to prison for the manslaughter of two women. However, the lawyers proved that their client was not to blame for the accident and that in this situation Massimo became a victim of tragic circumstances.

Massimo Carrera now

In 2016, the board of directors of Spartak Moscow appointed Italian specialist Massimo Carrera as the head coach of the red-and-white team. The contract was concluded for a period of two years. The specialist, who previously helped Antonio Conte at Juventus and the Italian national team, was given the task of winning the Russian Cup and taking a podium place in the championship.

It is known that even before Carrera’s appointment, the main candidate for the post of coach of the red and white was named, but, according to media reports, he did not agree with the club owner on the terms of the agreement. In October 2017, Massimo, together with the football club he headed, did the incredible: in a 90-minute confrontation between Spartak and Sevilla (third round of the Champions League), Carrera’s team won with a crushing score of 5:1.

At the post-match conference, the talented strategist told the media about the problems in Sevilla's defense and said that, despite the successful outcome of the match, none of the team members were thinking of relaxing. In addition to the return game with Sevilla, at the end of November the red and white will meet on the same field with players from Maribor.

Despite constant training, matches and interviews, the eminent coach does not forget about his fans. IN "Instagram" the former Juventus player regularly posts photographs from his personal archive and videos from his vacation. It is worth noting that social networks are not the only resource telling fans about the latest news from Massimo’s life. Various Internet portals and print media often publish materials related to the biography of a football star.

Dossier

Massimo Carrera was born on April 23, 1964 in Sesto San Giovanni (Italy), where he began to take his first steps in football. The first team for Massimo was Pro Sesto from his hometown.

From 1982 to 1986, the player changed 4 teams, each new season moving to a club of a higher division.

In 1986, Carrera moved to Bari, where he spent the next 5 seasons, winning the 1988/1989 Serie B and the Mitropa Cup with the club in 1990.

In 1991, Massimo moved to Juventus and took the position of right-back. The first season in the Turin club was very successful for Carrera, and as a result the player received his first call-up to the Italian national team Arrigo Sacchi.

Since joining the team in 1994 Marcello Lippi Massimo was transferred to the position of libero, eventually becoming the main player of the team that at the end of the season won the title of Italian champions and winners of the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup.

With the arrival of Pietro Verkhovod in the team in 1995, Carrera lost his place in the starting lineup and came on as a substitute more often.

At the end of the 1995/1996 season, Carrera won the Champions League with the club, beating Ajax Amsterdam on penalties in the final.

Accident and arrest

In May 2013, Carrera was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for manslaughter. This decision was made by the court in the case of the death of two 23-year-old girls in early 2011. Then Carrera was driving his car and hit the girls, not noticing that there was an accident ahead involving three cars and people got out of their vehicles to assess the damage.

The Juventus youth coach met the first day of 2011 in Milan. The festive city was enveloped in a lazy and gloomy grayness, in which the rain competed so bravely with the snow that one wanted to watch the weather exclusively while sitting in front of the window. Massimo was in no hurry. He drove home to Bergamo in the dark and could not understand why the highway he knew looked so dim that day. The New Year's lighting really worked in such a way that we had to focus on the silhouettes of cars running ahead. Their blurring lights became clearer, brighter, and finally blazed so close that I had to slam on the brakes.

My client didn’t have a chance,” Carrera’s lawyer will say at the trial. He will blame the road services for power outages, remember the rain and snow and demonstrate the stopping distance of up to three cars that were involved in a minor accident five minutes before Massimo appeared. He will also be surprised at the actions of two 23-year-old girls who, standing in the middle of the track, decided to examine the damage to their car. It was on these inconsistencies that the defense was built, which was supposed to save the Juventus coach from prison time for double manslaughter.

Almost two years passed from the day of the accident to the verdict read by the judge. During this time, Carrera was able to please the club's new manager, was promoted to second assistant in charge of defense, and even won the Italian Super Cup as head coach. Massimo conducted the Juve game from the sideline for three months and said at press conferences: “I leave my mobile phone on the bus, and no one gives me any tips.”

Of course, everyone understood that the team was still managed by Conte and his first deputy Alesio, who had been disqualified for 10 and 8 months. They were punished for the “negotiations” of their former club, Siena: the investigation decided that the coaches could have guessed about the strange behavior of some players and referees, but did not convey their concerns to the police. During this difficult period for Juve, Carrera was made the face of the team.

Massimo has always been talked about as a reliable fighter. He could not compare in talent with Maldini, Baresi, Nesta and Cannavaro and played only one match in the national team. However, the Juve and Atalanta fans I met before the match against Germany insisted that they had confidence in Carrera in all of his 400 matches.

Massimo graduated from football, while simultaneously studying coaching. He adapted his knowledge of physiology to himself, playing until he was 44 years old. Now, at 52, he looks little different from the experienced defenders of the Italian national team and still remains in their shadow. But it was he, together with Conte and Alesio, who transferred Juve to the 5-3-2 (3-5-2) formation. It was this coaching staff that created the unique Chiellini-Barzagli-Bonucci trio and connected the entire team into the best defensive network. The withering, laconic, but sharp play of the Italian national team is also Carrera’s creativity.

In the story of his faithful assistant, one thing is unclear: why doesn’t Conte take him to Chelsea? I wanted to ask Massimo himself about this after the match with Germany, but he bypassed the mixed zone. At the same time, employees of the press service, the Italian Football Federation and journalists explained the situation as follows:

Chelsea allowed Conte to invite only three people from his headquarters. The Italian needs to assemble the rest of the team from the employees of the London club. As a tactician in his own right, Antonio could have sacrificed one of his assistants, logically choosing Alessio. At the same time, you can be sure: if Conte really wanted to keep Carrera, he would have done it. According to the Italians, Chelsea immediately hinted to Conte that the person responsible for the death of two girls was not the best candidate to work at their club...

...If you trace the latest mentions of Massimo in the Russian media, they are dated exactly to the day of the trial in 2013 and look like this: “The Juventus coach will spend 2.5 years in prison.”

In fact, the lawyer's arguments were not so hopeless. The retrial nevertheless took into account the factors surrounding the accident, confirmed Carrera’s sobriety and released him, obliging him to pay compensation.

Having parted ways with Conte, Massimo found himself unnecessary and did not receive immediate requests from other clubs.

Offer Dmitry Alenichev was the only one,” he admitted to Italian journalists. – Do you understand what a challenge this is now?!

At Spartak he will have something to prove and to whom. An attempt to build Russia’s most problematic defense from scratch, without Conte and contrary to Conte’s decision, is perhaps Massimo’s most extraordinary and drastic step towards emerging from the shadows. At the same time, Carrera himself is perhaps the best transfer Leonid Fedun in recent years.
