Match preview
United will be attempting to win the competition for the first time since 2010, while manager Jose Mourinho could win the League Cup for the fourth time in his career.
The Mancunians are the undisputed favorites for the upcoming clash, but Hull will be motivated by the fact that they have never reached a League Cup final before. The Manchester United players thought the Hull captain was playing with his hand, but Jonathan Moss did the right thing by not awarding a penalty.
Robert Snodgrass came out for the second half with a limp. The Hull City midfielder was able to play just a minute after the break - a collision with the post in the first half did not pass without leaving a mark on the footballer. Manchester United continued to have the initiative, playing the ball for a long time in the opposing half of the field. But all this happened mainly without progress, because the hosts held the defense in an organized manner. Jose Mourinho, already at the end of an hour of playing time, decided to release Henrikh Mkhitaryan onto the field.
Time passed, and Manchester United could not penetrate the layered defense of Hull City. In the 72nd minute, the visitors demanded a penalty from Jonathan Moss, but the referee did not see a handball from Meyler after a flank pass from Valencia. With fifteen minutes left in regulation, the Tigers nearly scored. Tom Huddlestone struck from outside the penalty area, David de Gea was caught on the counter after a significant rebound from Eric Bailly, but the ball flew to the right of the frame!

Today I stood in front of Hull difficult task: score at least twice and not miss. In the first half, the “tigers” managed to play on two fronts. The hosts took the initiative and already in the 11th minute forced De Gea to show his excellent reaction. First, Sam Clucas shot dangerously from a set piece, and then Oumar Niasse shot at the goalkeeper from the goal line, but was unable to beat the goal.
And yet, in the 34th minute, Hull took a step towards the coveted final, getting even with one goal. Moss awarded a highly controversial penalty for Maguire's demolition. Huddlestone, who approached the point, confidently converted the set-piece and put his team ahead, 1-0!
Manchester United had to wake up. Almost immediately, Ibrahimovic could have equalized the score. The Swede received the ball after a successful rebound, ran towards someone else's penalty area and, getting close to the defenders, delivered a treacherous shot into the right corner. Marshall pulled himself to attention and made a truly heroic rescue.
After the break, the “devils” got down to business in earnest. The Hull defense had to withstand a real assault. For the time being, the “tigers” managed, but the 66th minute became fatal for them.
